Are we be better off today with the thousands of U.S. factories that have shut down and millions of American jobs lost and the trillions in accumulated debt that we've run up in the last couple decades of free trade?
And, of course, this is due to many factors including such things as:
Big government
Regulations
High taxes
Unions driving up costs
Cheap labor overseas
Fewer regulations overseas
Lower taxes overseas
Trade deficits
etc.,
And doubly exasperated by poor trade deals?
Or is this all a myth?
Are we better off with cheaper foreign (cheap) goods, fewer U.S. factories, fewer U.S. jobs, higher unemployment and welfare, higher taxes and higher national debt?
Will this spiral out of control until we lose our country?
Is ushering in free trade before (or without) reducing our own costs the equivalent of national suicide?
Leftists are businessmen too and I wouldn’t want them elected president even tho they made billions and created jobs.
I would rather elect a Conservative waiter for president over trump with his leeftist past/present.
What ever.
BS He is against TPP..
.............................................
BS He enabled it! He is definitely FOR it because his funders and handlers demand it.
He voted against both.. He came out against it in June studied them and voted against them cause he couldn’t give Obama fast Track.. TPP and TPA!!!
So what country was the computer you are typing this on made in?
is Dell’s president against nafta????
Higher tariffs mean that anyone purchasing anything imported is subsidizing union labor, government regulations and high taxes.
You mean compete with the labor force in those countries where there is no middle class...
Without the unions, there would never have been a sizable middle class in America...I know I'll get a lot of flak over that but heh...
Are you willing to cut your wages to the same degree you want the unions to cut theirs???
NAFTA
Slave wages.
The number one issue which will make America great is bringing back manufacturing jobs. Who prefers to make minimum wage and work time and buy cheap stuff at Walmart over making $40+/hour and buy American made goods? Only fools and financially challenged.
Free trade is great when it is also fair trade. There is no free trade if you try to sell high tech machinery to Japan & China. The barriers are 100 times worse than their high tech goods flooding into US markets.
In my humble opinion, there is no one better experienced and qualified to re-negotiate trade deals than Trump.
Good one.
EPA
OSHA
labor
taxes
90% of manufacturing workers are non union. 90%
As time goes on, they need us less and less. The U.S. is still a major economic power in the world, but the sad truth is that with globalization and rapid development in other countries, our 310+ million people simply aren’t as big a market as we used to be ... in a world of 7-8 billion people.
True, but we were talking about a comparison between two heavily automated facilities ... so the labor costs wouldn’t be a major component of the operating costs.
We’ve revolutionized all of our shipping, transportation and distribution systems to expedite containerized shipping.
PLUS, if the automation machinery that was required for those new automated jobs was built in America, quite a bunch of that 20 percent that was lost would find new work in the new factories building the automated equipment...
A while back all the American military combat boots were made in China...I suspect they supply quite a bit of what our military needs...
Isolationism for 3 years concept to regroup, recover, repair and respond to threats that got us here, both foreign and domestic.
Where does the cash come from ?
Fines to businesses that employ any illegal or foreign national who’s work visa has expired. Sugar Ant theory, clean up employment laws and illegals go home, to prison or worse when they turn to violent crimes against a armed citizenry .
Stop foreign aid to all nations who are proven enemies or sponsor terrorism.
Jobs for repairing, roads, railways, sea ports, airports, utility projects.
350 new thorium type reactors for power production, 1 per million population.
Overhaul and modernize the DOD.
Abolish the EPA.
Criminal justice system overhauled with 50 new supermax prisons, no parole,
constitutional carry for adult citizens, speedy trial / sentence. Death penalty executed within one year of last appeal. Work release for non violent prisoners.
National right to work, bye to union choke holds on manufacturers. Federal employee protection laws to prevent employers from abusing employees.
Department of education abolished, return control back to each state.
Agriculture , ranching, fisheries, food processing
Water conservation, distribution, desalination, treatment, storage etc
Reduction In Force (RIF) all government civilian jobs by 50%.
Just a few ideas I would think would make this nation a little better.... my opinions only.
Stay Safe !
I wouldn't give you any flak over that. But that situation only lasted as long as it took for the whole system to break down in a three-sided "crony capitalism" game that ultimately caused the destruction of this same middle class. This is exactly how it played out in the auto industry:
1. Politicians get votes from union workers and financial backing from auto manufacturers.
2. In exchange, the politicians award enormous contracts to these industrial giants for all kinds of crap at the expense of the taxpayers.
3. Auto manufacturers turn out products with declining quality over time, but nobody cares about it because they are only competing with other crappy auto manufacturers.
This type of scenario was never going to last very long. I'd suggest that it only lasted as long as it did because the U.S. had no industrial competitors for several decades after World War II.
