National Review endorses Ted Cruz, says he's only one who can stop Trump

One of the country’s most influential conservative magazines has endorsed Ted Cruz for president, after its top editors said that they believe the Texas senator is the only Republican candidate left in the race who can defeat Donald Trump.

“Ted’s the only one with a plausible path to stopping Trump,” National Review editor Rich Lowry told Politico, “either by getting a majority himself or denying Trump a majority and finishing close behind and getting it to the convention.”

And just why does the National Review want to get Hillary elected? -- Cruz doesn't stand a chance against her -- why is the GOPe suddenly pushing him?!

How sad. They endorse someone, not because they are any good, but because they can defeat someone else. Who reads National Review anyway?

Isn’t the question who is the best one to stop Hillary?

They haven’t bought and paid for Obama.

Backing Cruz is their last hope to keep the status quo alive.

That's not a question, it's accepting the premise that's determined to create a pre-determined outcome.

I guess that’s great if your goal is to stop Trump.

Mine isn’t.

The narrative is now reduced to ‘stop trump at all costs’ and paint him as an everyman bogeyman.

That's why the protest tonight will be the first of many - and with impunity. The press has enables this behavior.

Has National Review followed Red States lead in telling protesters to bring guns to Trump rallies? Or have they followed Genn Beck and promised to stab Trump given the chance to do so?

Why is it so many folks still do not get it. Everyone but Trump is in the uniparty. EVERYONE! Hillary is fine with the uniparty. The R wing would prefer Jeb but if the D wing wins they are OK with Hillary.

The National Review has been trashed and will not make it other than as a defunct website.

We agree. Cruz is my top choice, but stopping Trump is a silly reason to choose him (plus I'm not at all confident Cruz could do it). My reasons are his overall conservative record throughout his career and his small government goals. While I have doubts on whether Trump would do what he says, I have no doubts at all on Cruz. Often I wonder if the GOP establishment is trying to force a Trump win with their shockingly stupid response to him. Now I'm wondering the same about NR.

Same here. I lean Cruz, but when the focus is on defeating another republican and not the real enemy of freedom, I have to wonder if the world has gone insane. Rush has said it. Hannity has said it. Like him or not, Trump is getting people to vote and vote Republican in ways that no other candidate has been able to do since Reagan. And now he’s public enemy number one? Between this and Glenn Beck’s insanity, I fear Mr. Cruz’s undoing may be his endorsements.

I like them both and would vote for either, but I’m thinking my little qualifier about who I support might be changing to “Both, but I lean Trump.” pretty soon.
