Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, said Sunday he believes his Thursday speech against Donald Trump hurt the 2016 front-runner after he split Saturday's contests with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
"I think I had a big impact," Romney said Sunday on "Meet the Press." "I think a lot of people were surprised by how well Ted Cruz did.

There are still people who will deny it.
Of course he made a big impact and I’ve been saying this clearly. Cruz won because of the GOPe’s strategic voting strategy. Cruz does not destroy the GOPe, TRUMP DOES!. That’s the only reason you should need at this point to vote for him. They will change the rules in 4 years and getting someone to change the GOPe from the inside will not be possible. It’ll be vote for the Romney’s and McCain’s of the world or 3rd party. Sorry, Cruz is clearly GOPe for all intents and purposes now
No they won’t. Ted Cruz has been GOPe for almost 20 years now.
Mitt’s speech was successful in that it reminded everyone of us who held our noses to vote for him in 2012 what a pathetic POS choke artist he is. Now we find out he’s vicious and filled with petty jealousy on top of it. He’s a sorry loser.
Mitt is an attention seeker. Next, please dye your hair Blue and Tatoo your face with tear drop.
We may notice Mitt.
Mittens, you pompous, silly jackass — just GO AWAY! You are a total loser and unworthy of merit.
Cruz is no outsider. He is part of the shadowy NWO, Goldman Sachs cabal. His so-called Christianity is a lie of the worst kind. He has been joined at the hip to the Bush clan for a long time. Be wary.
Don’t you see Romney knows he is hurting Cruz with conservatives. Romney wants Rubio - on a Romney / Rubio ticket.
Well Mitt did accomplish one thing. I previously had decided I would not vote for an incumbent down ticket in Nov. Now, after what Romney has done and the silence from Republicans, with none coming out to denounce him, I will not vote Republican down ticket.
I am done with this party. The past six months or so has shown me that they have no integrity, no honesty, no concern for this country or the wishes of the voters. So be it.
Really? Why not work on getting P. Ryno and Ditch to do their jobs?
You have gone from decent to trash.
Baloney.
Romney...a legend in his own mind.
I wish we were all focused more on why people should vote for our guys and then deal with the threat of Socialism, liberal SCOTUS (for 30 years) and stay focused on that. We have probably done more oppo research and been copied by more Slate and DU writers than any other source on the net.
I think Mrs. Reagan’s husband was right when he cautioned about this kind of trash talking. No one here is going to affect the outcome of the steaming pile of a “Presidential” campaign with comparing organs and sliming each other. If our candidates were not so blissfully unaware of the state of the country and the repulsion that many of the Reagan Democrats are feeling, maybe they would stop.
There’s a lot of people who are with us that will drift away if we aren’t aware of this. I’m more than happy to be fighting it out with these socialists, especially now that they are officially out of the closet, but this isn’t the smart way to do this. Let them bring out their champion, let them start some good old fashioned bare knuckle politics, then let’s smash them. We are losing kids who don’t even know about socialism and what there lives will look like.
But, then, we would have to care more about the country than our egos. No one on our side will win if they keep this up. There is the same 30-40% floor under both sides.
Think about America after 4-8 years of Clinton and 3-4 liberal justices on the SCOTUS. Think about it.
Why aren’t we focused on defeating THAT. Mittens has a right to sound foolish just as much as anyone. Everyone does. Well, except Louis C.K. He needs a good ass kicking. If Hillary does get ensnared and knocked out, we know they aren’t going with Weekend at Bernie’s. I don’t know who it is, but Trump/Clinton is nowhere near a lock. Why are we getting suckered into being the boogie man again?
Question: Will Ted Cruz disavow Mitt Romney? If not, then he is obviously enjoying his newly found blessing from the establishment.
Sounds about right.
Umm, you mean ‘he can take full credit for Obama’s election AND re-election’ - I like mandates, mandates work Romney played a key role in ensuring that McCain was seen as the last ‘sane’ choice in a rotten field.
Romney deserves full credit for gay calling themselves married, ObamaCare and Obama. I’m honestly surprised that the Democrats haven’t already inducted them in their liberal hall of fame yet.
Wait till Tuesday
Strange thing to say considering he has little impact on his own race.
