Rush Limbaugh went on FOX News Sunday to discuss the contentious Republican primary and recent developments including Mitt Romney’s scurrilous attacks on Donald Trump this week.
Rush Limbaugh told Chris Wallace – while Mitt Romney was listening – that Mitt did the same thing to Trump as his father did to Barry Goldwater in 1964.
Chris Wallace: Let’s start with Mitt Romney’s speech this week in which he basically joined the anybody but Trump movement. You say that that is going to backfire with Trump supporters and other voters are going to see it as the establishment trying to tell them what to do. With Mitt Romney listening explain what he’s missing.
Rush Limbaugh: Well, it’s all that and more but it’s not unprecedented. His dad did much the same thing against Barry Goldwater in a cabal with Republican establishment guys back in 1964. The establishment, this isn’t new. The establishment not wanting outsiders, not wanting conservatives, it isn’t anything new… Donald Trump is putting together a coalition that the Republican Party says is exactly what it needs to win. And, yet look what they’re doing. They’re trying to get Trump out of the race because they’re not in charge of it.

Geo HW Bush supported Goldwater after the convention, unlike Romney. The Bush family was well respected by the conservatives for that. Conservatives have been uneasy with the Romneys ever since 1964.
I have said that if by some horrible misfortune and/or mis-step or fraud, we wind up with another ‘rat president, it will be akin to the proverbial third wave-sailors used to say that the ship could withstand the first two waves, it was the third one which would take the ship down. That will be another ‘rat president-the third wave, the one which takes us down.
She we did, when he started talking about lying Cruz.
Yes their names were Him and Her. My three yr old sister called the beagles Him Bird and Her Bird, The media had it on TV(ear Pulling). The dogs would squeal. National Review had a cartoon of Fidel Castro picking up LBJ by his ears and a little beagle peeking around the corner.
My wife & I with our adult son voted early today for TRUMP!!!
I have been active in local politics over the years. We must differentiate between local GOPe and the GOPe at the national level. The people I know at the local level are by and large very good and honorable.
The interesting thing however is: as candidates I have known graduate from a local to a statewide and then to the national level... most of them seem to morph into caricatures of themselves. Most of the climbers are lawyers of course. I am not sure if it is political power that corrupts them, the influence of special interests and lobbyists or just the fact that most of the climbers are ambulance chasers at heart. Other than my next door neighbor, who got out of the business and became an airline pilot... I must admit that I have never gotten to know a lawyer who I could stand to be around after more than a few years.
At this point in my life anyone I meet who is a lawyer already has two strikes against them. All they have got to do is one bad thing and I no longer respect them... I am much more forgiving of other acquaintances. This is not something that I feel is fair about myself, but I have learned to be this way through the school of hard knocks. I suppose this is why I am much more forgiving of Donald Trump’s dumb moves than I have been of the sneaky stuff Ted Cruz has pulled.
Ryan have already filed FEC papers to run for President & VP on Jan 30, 2016-——36 days ago?
Romney & Ryan are throwing artillary, but they are not admitting they have already filed papers to run. I am assuming those papers came with a filing fee.
I didn’t know that. Wallace doesn’t care. He doesn’t want Trump either.
Ryan and Romney. Total losers!
You’re attitude towards lawyers is how I feel about Brits in NYC! I won’t give them the time of day.

“Even if you don’t agree with what he is saying, his reasoning is worth listening to.”
Well said, imho.
My wife had a “Brit” pen pall for several years; she came to stay with us. We showed her a good time and spent a lot of money on her and drove her all over the place for over two weeks. We even threw a big party for her attended by scores of people who all treated her like she was some type of celebrity. After she left we found that she had taken a bunch of my wife’s valuables with her. When confronted by email she didn’t fess up of course, but said that my wife was spoiled and had too much stuff that she didn’t really appreciate. That was the last we heard from her. Is that the kind of experiences you have had?
Interesting. An art book on Leonardo disappeared shortly after a British friend visited. He was annoyed at me about something and I always have had a suspicion that he swiped it. No proof. But what I am generally talking about is they never pick up a check, if you meet them at a bar or a private club, they will ‘charm’ you into buying them drinks, they crash parties and at the same time insult America all day long. Now I make sure to let them know I have their number.
Tom Wolfe wrote about this, lol!
Nothing at all to disagree with what you wrote.
When I was in first grade (the school was so small that second grade was in the same room) we had an in-class election before the national Goldwater/Johnson vote.
We had to raise our hands (you could do things like this back then!), in favor of LBJ, raise your hands now? Lots and lots of hands (well, about 15, counting both classes).
Raise your hands for Goldwater? I was the only one.
My dad laughed hard and was very proud of me when I told him later that day.
Sounds like we have a similar foundation in conservatism.
It was evil, watching Nelson Effing Rockefeller, richer than Croesus and mad because his own effort fell short (even with the New York Slimes thumping the tub for him vigorously for 10-12 months before the convention), using his courtesy minority-report face time on national television to denounce Goldwater's delegates in vile and bitter language, comparing them to "fascists" and "Nazis" -- none of that PC stuff, and it was 30 years before Godwin -- to their faces, to thunderous booing from the delegates. Gave 'em the finger, too (tho' that might have been another convention, another year). All class, that Rocky, and now the richerati complain about Trump?
Jeanine Pirro de-testiculated Mittens over the weekend, there's a thread with link here on FR.
