Sorry, Republicans, Ted Cruz is Lying About Abolishing the IRS
The Daily Banter ^ | 3/4/2016 | BOB CESCA

Posted on 03/04/2016 3:21:31 PM PST by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

It's America's favorite pander. Pledging to abolish the Internal Revenue Service is only slightly less attractive than promising unlimited, consequence-free sex with the partners of our choice. Nobody likes the IRS, and eliminating it entirely will surely resolve many, many sleepless nights for too many Americans, especially at this time of year.

So, it's no wonder why Ted Cruz is promising to abolish the IRS. It's such a crucial aspect of his platform that he mentioned it twice during his Super Tuesday victory speech in Texas because, for middle-aged Republican voters, it's way better fapping material than naked pics of Sarah Palin. And Ted Cruz, with his skeevy face and Glengarry salesman mendacity, has no choice but to roll out the big guns in order to compensate for his unprecedented repulsiveness -- booger mishap and all.

Too bad it's a pipe dream.

During various Cruz stump speeches and television spots, the loathsome senator with his punch-me face can be heard to pledge three things related to taxes:

1) A 10 percent flat-tax. 2) Tax returns filed on postcard-sized forms. 3) No more IRS.

The question that ought to immediately spring to mind for anyone paying attention is this: Where the hell do we send our postcard-sized tax returns if the IRS doesn't exist any more? I've asked this question repeatedly on the Bob & Chez Show as well as throughout social media, and not a single Cruz supporter has bothered to answer.

Consequently, I did some digging myself and discovered the truth.

Ted Cruz absolutely doesn't plan to abolish the IRS after all. Instead, Cruz intends to shrink the size of the agency. How do we know this? Cruz's campaign website...

"Ted Cruz absolutely doesn't plan to abolish the IRS after all. Instead, Cruz intends to shrink the size of the agency." Why is Bob quibbling? Why is bob smiling photo: smiling bob / enzite... smilingbobenzite.jpg If Ted Cruz shrinks the IRS to an agency that reviews postcards, then Bob is quibbling.

A flat tax is, by definition, NOT regressive. It’s not progressive. It’s — DUH — flat. The author is an economic illiterate.

Just one more example of Drumpf supporters attacking from the left. Makes sense. It’s where your candidate’s true positions are going to come from once he crumbles you up and throws you away.

It will never be abolished because there’s too much money on the table: lawyers, tax accountants, CIO’s. And then there is the question of $160 trillion in debt that will have to be wrung out of us.

But don't forget the VAT added to the flat tax.

That is the "hidden tax" that will affect everyone.

Did you notice how the moderators didn’t jump on Ted saying there would still have to be some kind of agency to process the postcards.

There has always been an office of the treasury department to collect taxes. But an IRS? This huge thing that we have now? That is what he hopes will go away.

A flat tax is, by definition, NOT regressive.

I agree, it's also the fairest approach to taxation as everyone should and would have skin in the game.

It starts with allowing shills like BlackFemaleArmyCaptain to trollbomb Free Republic with vulgar and offensive outtakes from far-left websites. Has BFAC ever actually responded on any thread she's posted content to? Sure doesn't seem like it...

There’s nothing hidden about the VAT, and the VAT is not part of a flat income tax.

What he is proposing is not a VAT such as the one I paid in Germany. In any case, all he can do isn to propose something. A million accountants and special interests will oppose this.

BFAC doesn't notice anything.

BFAC is a trollbot. BFAC scrubs the Interwebs searching for negative keywords about Trump opponents, or positive phrases about TheDonald®. BFACbot then posts the article and moves on. BFACbot isn't capable of responses or insights. BFACBot is simply a program. That's all.

No, nothing hidden, but it is in addition to the flat tax, and the tax will be added to each step of manufacturing.

And salary expense will not be deductible for the employer - will be included in the VAT.

Trump’s lying about Mexico paying for the wall, too. What politician doesn’t stretch the truth when he thinks people will fall for it?

If you were paying attention last night, Cruz addressed this question - as he has several times in the past. It has also been on his website for months. He is not proposing eliminating the Treasury Department. The responsibility for collecting those postcard returns and depositing the checks can be done by a different department within Treasury - but one that doesn't have the same power of the IRS to ruin peoples lives.

the tax will be added to each step of manufacturing

Has nothing to do with manufacturing. It is added at each point in the economic process where value is added. Even, so, it isn't part of the flat tax.

VAT's are also neither progressive nor regressive. Where they fall on the scale depends entirely on what processes are exempted. Most regressive elements are removed either via credits or by exempting specific items, like food.

In any case, my point stands. The author is an economic illiterate. There is nothing intrinsically wonderful about "progressive" taxation. All it means in theory is increasing the rate as income increases. What it means in practice is dividing people by income classes and envy.
