John Kasich: If I win Ohio, GOP will get a "brokered convention"
CBS news ^ | 3/4 | Reena Flores

After Thursday's Republican debate, where Donald Trump dominated much of the conversation, Ohio Gov. John Kasich laid out his path forward to the GOP nomination, predicting that a contested convention this summer will eventually stop Trump's rise.

"Frankly, if I win Ohio, we're probably gonna end up in a convention -- a brokered convention -- and then we're gonna find out who the adult is," Kasich said Thursday in an interview with CBS News' chief White House correspondent Major Garrett. The last time Republicans were close to a "brokered" convention, where no candidate has a clear-cut delegate victory, was in the 1976 primary between Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan.

"We don't have many states to be voting in," Kasich acknowledged, but he believes that "we'll hold our own in Mississippi, we'll hold our own in Michigan." He predicted, however, that he would not win Michigan.

He added: "And then we're gonna win in Ohio. It'll be a whole new ball game."

Good reason for Ohio to not vote for you. What a stupid thing to say at this point and with this anger in the base.

That's a pretty big IF.

The most recent Ohio polls only gave Trump a 5 point lead in Ohio, and that was before Rubio and Cruz started beating on Trump like a red-headed step-child.

He couldn’t even win Vermont.

Vermont Goes to Donald Trump, with Kasich in Second, Rubio a Distant Third

Since the GOPe is spending so much time trying to figure out how to ignore the votes of millions of Trump supporters, perhaps it is a good idea for Trump voters to figure out what they are going to do when the GOPe screws them over.

Been mulling that one over. Guess we'll have to see what transpires, but not really looking forward to it.

I may have mis-understood, but they all pledged to support the NOMINEE not the front-runner last night. If brokered, the nominee could be Romney, correct?

Dammit Bubba !

“Do you really believe that Kasich is a socialist?”

K-sick may be a fiscal conservative, but he’d definitely a socalist when it comes to non-economic issues like illegal immigration. If you don’t see that coming through from his debate performances, then you aren’t listening to him very closely. The idea that you can balance the budget while ignoring the continuing influx of illegals is truly cognative dissonance. The other words for it would be” he’s on the “free labor express.”

I can’t picture Kasich winning Ohio. He has screwed over conservative voters that put him in office.

I'm not sure he would -- he's a RINO, but right now he's saying the things he needs to say to keep alive a candidacy which is running on fumes. Jeb's dropping out probably boosted him some, but how much benefit could it actually give him? ;')

Rush Limbaugh brought up the theory today that Cruz and Rubio come together on one ticket, a la brokered convention, with 60% of the vote to beat Trump’s 40%.

Stupid FReepers are already touting Kasich as a "viable" VP for Trump. This clown has all the leadership of a caboose and would be an even worse choice than when Reagan picked Bush.

Reagan did not pick Bush. It was forced on him. He really had no chance. If Trump gets there the same will happen with him. These presidents are unable to keep their promises. The CFR, etc rule here. Since nobody wants to talk to Putin but possibly Donald just what is Henry Kissinger doing in Russia now?

I can’t picture Kasich winning Ohio. He has screwed over conservative voters that put him in office.

Well, he still has a sky-high approval rate in the state, according to those polls that Trump likes to quote constantly...

I don’t see how you connect socialism with open borders. Proponents of loose immigration controls are often derided as “cheap labor” Chamber of Commerce types. And Bernie Sanders’ position on immigration is similar in some respects to Trump’s.

I think that’s because he’s popular with Dems now. In the primary, you have a Republican list and a Dem list. If you’re going to change parties, you have to do it ahead of time, not at the polls. Republicans that I know are ticked off at him bc of how he handled Obamacare and Medicaid. So his approval within his own party has diminished in the state. Unless there is an Operation Chaos coming from the Dems, my opinion is that Kasich won’t win. It’s just my opinion, though. Who will win? We’ll have to wait to find out.
