Why Trump Survived Every Attack from Rubio and Cruz
Newsweek ^ | 2/25/16 | Matthew Cooper

Posted on 02/25/2016 9:27:48 PM PST by Vision Thing

"If he hadn't inherited $200 million, you know where [Donald] Trump would be? Selling watches in Manhattan."

It was Marco Rubio's big moment, the one that was supposed to damage the GOP front-runner. It wasn't a bad line. The zinger illuminated that Trump wasn't self-made. It made him seem like the avatar of New York's worst values--a street hustler from pre-Giuliani Times Square.

Rubio's riposte got a laugh, but that was it. But he administered his blow too quickly, after a dizzying oppo dump of Trumpian facts--bankruptcies, lawsuits against Trump University, hiring illegal workers and so on. Like a hormonal teenager with control issues, Rubio blurted them out so quickly that the fusillade fell flat.

Even the online poll Glenn Becks website the Blaze shows Trump winning the debate by double digits and that is one of the lowest ones. After awhile the repeated rehearsed ambushes just got tiring.

I don’t think he did. He got battered pretty hard, kicked back and forth between Ted and Marco. A pretty bad night for Trump.

Not at all...Rubio and Cruz came through sounding and acting like a couple of kids...

You and the chattering class didn’t see what the rest of us saw. Two lightweight lawyers with no game yapping at the heels of the big dog. They looked desperate which they are. In 4 days their campaigns will pretty much end.

Not really much point wasting time trying to reason with people who only want to throw out verbal jabs then cry when they get jabbed back.

Trump was debating to win the general, just like in SC. Rubio and Cruz were debating to give themselves a bump in the next polls.

Trump is several steps ahead of them. He systematically picks off the opponents one by one. He is saving Rubio for last.

After SC debate the experts said Trump would plummet. They’ll same the same this time. And again he’ll rise to higher vote totals.

Yep. Cruz and Rubio did not show any leadership potential.

It's hard for them to do, given their experience as mere senators. And with their relatively small poll numbers and delegate counts, they're in positions of weakness, so they needed to attack no matter how badly they would appear.

Tonight was typical. Trump inherited money but he had already been running the company for 8 years before he inherited anything. Sure he had a leg up but he took his father’s company and moved it in an entirely new direction outside of the low income housing which had made his father a millionaire and into the Manhattan real-estate market which he then proceeded to grow the company into a multi- billion dollar company with operations worldwide. Rubio and Cruz both have been nothing more than a career politicians all their lives and Cruz is far better educated and also conservative than Rubio.

CRuz came to kiss Trump’s ass, the minute he saw Trump was taking the race by storm, just after Trump announced his run. The pic of CRuz in the ill fitting jacket, next to the impeccably dressed Trump have been posted many times.

Which money beggar has Trump lied about?

Every post debate poll I have seen has Trump ahead and some way ahead. Even the Blaze had Trump at 54%. I think the tag team of Cruz and Rubio went over the top. It became obvious to everyone what was going on and it backfired big time.

And the moderators were in on it as well

I put Trump in first place and sad to say, Kasich at second...

When and how did Cruz get “destroyed”? I didn’t see any of that. Nor did I see any of it with Rubio.

The Roberts thing is a blatant lie, and Trump knows it. As Cruz has said repeatedly, he recommended Michael Luttig over Roberts.

Trump exposed himself on teh Supreme Court. Cruz strongly pledged constitutionalist justices. Rubio said a similar thing, much more weakly. Trump was unable to make such a pledge.

Cruz has received donations from a lot of people, and sometimes opposed their interests. His interest is defending teh Constitution. The vast majority of Trump’s donations have been to liberal Democrats, and he supported five members of the Gang of Eight.

Cruz and Rubio can wipe the floor with Hillary in a debate and both show up as leading her in the polls. Trump loses to her, according to the same polls. And they’re holding back on Trump for just that reason, to ensure that he is the nominee. The same thing they did to McCain and to Romney.

New York law from after the Civil War says that I could set up a vending stand on any street without a permit.

Hey, don't knock it. Trump's friend Mark Burnett started out as a street vendor on the beach boardwalks of LA, and look at him now.

Trump's proven determination and ethic of hard work would've given him an advantage no matter where he started.
