Brilliant move, but NO SALE! We want a young Scalia!

I’m gonna get flamed here but I’ll take my chances.
I would support Sandoval, who would probably end up as a Sandra Day O’Connor to replace Scalia. Then hope that President Trump could appoint Cruz to replace Ginsberg and maybe even Anthony Kennedy would retire.

Has anyone *ever* heard of an SC justice trending right instead of left in their career on the high court? Sure haven’t seen it in my lifetime, although Scalia and Thomas seem to have at least held steady.

People on here place too much faith in the GOP establishment’s resolve.

Would it vote for a fellow RINO? Don’t bet against it.

The Vichy Republicans will have to be restrained to keep them from confirming.

Sandoval should say no if he is either conservative or Republican.

This is why I quit posting at HotAir and deleted my bookmarks. AP conveniently ignores the fact that both Schumer and Biden said in the past no SCOTUS nominees should be confirmed in an election year.

If the GOP caves they will lose the Senate and the House, bank on it.

As I have posted before, Sandoval would be an excellent choice, given that the we have NO leverage to pick a conservative justice because Obama is President, and he is the one who does the picking.

The fight over ideological control will come with the Ginsberg vacancy. If we win the Pres and Senate, we get our conservative. Lose either, and we don’t.

Sandoval is no less conservative than is Trump, and there is no particular reason to think that Trump would pick anyone more conservative than Sandoval.

What was my immediate response the first time I heard the senate planned to hold its ground on another supreme court nomination? They will definitely fold like cheap suits! I still think that is the most likely outcome. Why? Because the US Senate is chock full of GOPe squishes who actually fear a more conservative justice! They absolutely do not want another Scalia on the court and have nearly as much to lose as the Democrats in that regard.

Bottom line: Obama nominates a squish—welcome our new Supreme Court of the United States judge, Justice Squish!

Obama just wants to nominate someone the Republicans would catch flak over not approving so he can make them look bad if they refuse.

McConnell screwed this whole thing up. All he had to say was “you do your job under the constitution and we’ll do ours”, and then vote down every nominee Obama puts up.

Trolling? Yes. Going to happen? Not a chance. The far-left wingnuts in the party would go berserk. Stay the course, GOP, nothing to see here.

Senate has to “advise and consent” - their advice should be that they won’t consider a new appointment to the Court at this time because the process would be contaminated by political considerations in this election year - they’ll be glad to consider and possibly consent to the next appointment once the election is settled....
