His campaign started out stuffed with money.
By last July, Jeb Bush had raised $103 million for his super PAC, Right to Rise, an astonishing sum that seemed to foretell the most lavishly funded campaign in American history. No super PAC had ever raised so much cash so early in an election cycle. In fact, Right to Rise alone outraised all the super PACs combined at the same stage in the 2012 elections.
Now, after primary elections in just three states, Bush is out. He finished sixth in the Iowa caucus, fourth in the New Hampshire primary, and now, fourth in the South Carolina primary. It has become a given in modern American politics that money buys results, but Bush's rapid flameout suggests a more nuanced reality: Money can buy an edge, but successful candidates still need broad-based support and lots of smaller donors.
Bushâs strategy from the beginning was to lure wealthy donors able to write six- and seven-figure checks to his super PAC. But his campaign itself was never well-funded, and that turned out to be a critical gap. Super PACs, which can accept unlimited amounts of money, can pay for ads and other types of advocacyâeither for the favored candidate or against rivalsâbut theyâre not allowed to cover basic campaign expenses such as salaries for staff, travel costs, event fees and anything else done by the campaign proper. That's what the presidential campaign committee is for, and that's limited to maximum donations of $2,700 per person for the primary elections, and another $2,700 for the general election. So even with a gargantuan super PAC, it's still crucial to have a lot of donors funding the traditional campaign.

Jeb Bush was governor ages ago. He’s been out of the loop a long time.
#18 let’s hope this is consistent with Hillary...
Terri Schiavo might dispute that.
“Right to Rise” I hadn’t heard this name of the Bush PAC until now, what a stupid name. No wonder Jeb bombed out.
In other words, he needed the smaller donors, such as those in the Conservative Base to fund his personal campaign. Evidently, no matter what he said, he did need the base to win.
Didn’t realize that Cruz and Rubio were getting so much PAC money...I knew Bush and Hillary were, of course, but it’s disappointing to Cruz/Rubio also getting so much.

His clueless, in-your-face arrogance probably didn't help.
Continually campaigning in Spanish, heaping disdain on the base, etc.
I guess he's really reduced to hoping the eGOP promised "brokered convention" can still draft him.
So no one but billionaires should run for president? It takes a lot of cash to run a campaign, and unless you are Trump or Bloomberg, candidates need PACs, which are regulated by the FEC.
“It takes a lot of cash to run a campaign”
Trump is showing that to NOT be the case. But candidates do NEED A MESSAGE, and Trump certainly has that (build the wall, send them home, keep out the terrorists).
Walker actually was the first to show THE DAMAGE that PACs can do to you when he tried to keep them happy on Amnesty, while still trying to get Republican votes. He wound up demanding a wall be built on the CANADIAN border.
Sorry about the other Frank Underwood gif.
Thought it would slide but, guess it was “Bush” league...
LOL
Well, Trump is fortunate enough to be able to personally fund his campaign, but people like Cruz and Rubio need PAC money to campaign. The only other person without PAC money is Bernie, and he’s managing to run all on personal donations. That’s about the only thing I can give Bernie credit for.
Jeb was too dependent on his Mommy, his Daddy and his brother. He was not his own man. He kept pushing his lineage rather than his personal achievements. He just didn’t have much credibility.
Sixth in Iowa, fourth in New Hampshire and South Carolina, and last in the hearts of his nation.
"Right to Rise" sounds more like the name of a Bill Clinton PAC.
Caveat Terry Schievo.
Thank you, most people have conveniently forgotten about her. My dear friend in the medical profession described for me what happens to the body when a person is dehydrated to death. She told me NEVER refuse hydration in your living will it is a slow, painful death. Every time the media reported that her ex-husband was whispering lovingly into her ears I imagined he was telling her to die and extolling how he won. And I will never forget sharp tongue down there with his hired activist hacks supporting that murderer.
