Believe it or not, the US Marshals Service in Houston is arresting people for not paying their outstanding federal student loans.
Paul Aker says he was arrested at his home last week for a $1500 federal student loan he received in 1987.
He says seven deputy US Marshals showed up at his home with guns and took him to federal court where he had to sign a payment plan for the 29-year-old school loan.

This info needs to circulate to more of the blogerati who are just now getting into high dudgeon about this incident without regard to the contextual facts.
0dunga is attempting to generate student support for free college tuition of the kind the Democrat party is proposing. THINK ABOUT IT.
Federally guaranteed loans means the fed will make you pay. And really the guy has been in arrears for 30 years, he’s a dead beat.
He wasn't arrested for not paying his student loan. He was arrested for continuously refusing to appear in court. He also warned the court officers that he was armed and waiting.
I would rather see the USMS serving warrants on dangerous suspects. I am surprised the government can’t seize wages or tax refunds instead. That being said, loan sharks are more forgiving than the government.
Salaries can only be garnished for child support in Texas. Not even the IRS can garnish wages there so there was no choice except to arrest him
yeah lets stretch them on the rack until they pay up ... yeah that’s the ticket
“Not even the IRS can garnish wages there so there was no choice except to arrest him”
You’d be wrong about that. IRS owed taxes and student loans can be garnished in Texas. You might not want to spread false legal advice.
Next will be debtors prison. With illegal alien prison guards.
Paying the 30 year old note that you took out at the expense of other taxpayers?
Works for me. Deadbeats get short shrift ‘round here.
Why shouldn’t people have to pay back their loans? Would like to see how many warnings the guy had before arrest.
Debt slavery. What do you expect?

6. But the grand nostrum will be a public debt
7. It must not be forgotten that the members of the legislative body are to have a deep stake in the game. This is an essential point, and happily is attended with no difficulty. A sufficient number, properly disposed, can alternately legislate and speculate, and speculate and legislate, and buy and sell, and sell and buy, until a due portion of the property of their constituents has passed into their hands to give them an interest against their constituents
11. As soon as sufficient progress in the intended change shall have been made, and the public mind duly prepared according to the rules already laid down, it will be proper to venture on another and a bolder step toward a removal of the constitutional landmarks.

“yeah lets stretch them on the rack until they pay up ... yeah thatâs the ticket”
Stretching their scrotums would be faster! ;-)
Why didn’t they just garnishee his wages, or seize his tax return years ago?
The stupid, it’s everywhere.
This person keeps missing court dates.
There is more to this story.
This guy refused to open the door and told the federal Marshall he had a gun.
That’s when the fun began.
Funds collected politically are spent politically and student loans finance The University System, which lauds Big Gummint —one hand washes the other.
If the costs of indoctrinating idiots to the easy ways of The Left is a few deadbeats every now and then, well that’s their problem.
The first step in righting this is denial of Student Loans for non-STEM fields of study.
IT IS INDOCTRINATION, and the market assigns a value of ZERO to most degrees these days.
Make student debt dischargeable via bankruptcy and make liberal Universities face the risk that they’ll never be paid back.
THEY FACE ZERO RISK NOW.
(I have zero student debt, BTW)
Government waste, spend $150,000 to collect $1500.
