Cruz challenges Trump's 'make America great again' slogan

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday challenged the premise of Donald Trump's promise to "make America great again," and asked if Trump knows how America ever became great in his closing pitch to South Carolinians.

Speaking in Myrtle Beach, Cruz launched into an extended diatribe about what he perceived as Trump's lackluster position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He followed it up with a list of Cruz's campaign promises and a stinging rebuke of Trump's singular message.

"We will see the economy explode, small businesses grow, young people coming out of school with three, four, five job opportunities. Wages going up. You know what? We're going to be winning so much we'll get tired of winning," Cruz said, mimicking Trump's message. "It's easy to say let's Make America Great Again, you can even print that on a baseball cap. The question to ask is, do you understand what made America great in the first place?"

By “dirty tricks” do you mean like when Trump said of Ben Carson he has a “pathological temper” that is incurable — adding that it’s like the sickness of a “child molester.” Child molester? Ben Carson?

Don’t be fooled by the snake oil salesman. Trump is an unknown. He’s more ‘hope and change’.

Cruz 2016.

Yep. Once again Trump has very good qualities and so does Cruz. They shouldn’t be fighting each other, the focus should be fighting LIBS.

But the cheering squad sTRUMPettes just ad hominem left and right.

It’s disgusting as I happen to be a naturalized LEGAL citizen who followed all the rules to become part of this great nation, pay taxes and vote conservative. Far more conservative than the average person who was born here.

I have zero loyalty to Canada. Although many of my relatives still live there, I haven’t been to Canada since the eighties.

The candidates I’d like to see drop out in descending lib order are: Jeb, Rubio, Kasich and most particularly HILL and BERN. Carson is a nice man and would do with a cabinet post.

No, it’s not an “appeal to authority” fallacy.

Free Republic is like Jim’s home. We’ve been invited over to his place for a little get-together. Some of the guests are slandering one of his friends, talking trash about him every occasion they get. After some time, this trash talk gets tiring. And so Jim, as the host, may step in and ask the guests to stop piling onto his friend.

That’s simply what I’m asking for: that Jim step in and ask those who are slandering his “friend,” Ted Cruz, to cut back and be more civil. After all, it is his home, and his party.

Jim, if you look through my comment history, my anti-Trump comments are always *in response* to anti-Cruz comments and anti-Cruz images.

I never initiate the slime against Trump. I’m only combatting the anti-Cruz comments that have come to saturate Free Republic ...

If the anti-Cruzers stop polluting every thread on FR, then there will be no need for me to post those goofy pictures I keep on my FR profile page.

Nobody. That’s why I asked Jim, the head police officer, to weigh in.

Yes, maybe I do have some nerve.

No. Dirty Nixonian tricks like photoshops of opponents/and misleading mailings, etc. By the way, wasn’t Carson attacking his mother with a hammer psycholgical aberrant, or do you think its acceptable behavior mental behavior?

No one is claiming that Cruz is not a very good lawyer. However being a good lawyer does not translate into being a good leader. Cruz has zero leadership skills, and out side of a courtroom zero accomplishments. Me too Ted is also running a very nasty and negative campaign. Plus going by original intent he is not eligible to serve as POTUS

I was making a reference to something that has been quoted many times. Here it is again:
Trump says he's not afraid to blur reality to utilize leverage. "When the board of Holiday Inn was considering whether to enter into a partnership with me in Atlantic City, they were attracted to my site because they believed my construction was farther along than that of any other potential partner."

"In reality," he writes, "I wasn't that far along, but I did everything I could, short of going to work at the site myself, to assure them that my casino was practically finished. My leverage came from confirming an impression they were already predisposed to believe."

He a knowleges that he withheld information he had in order to allow them to believe some he knew was inaccurate. Textbook lie of ommision. And he is bragging about it.

Do y'all know that the founder of this website SUPPORTS TED CRUZ as his #1 choice? If you did, maybe you'd cut back on the cynical and uninformed anti-Cruz vitriol.

Yes, Jim Robinson supports Trump. But his FIRST choice is TED CRUZ.

All one has to do is review your posting history. In other words, if you don't agree with JR, get the hell of his website! You have stated this over and over and over. Is that not correct? So, when did Jim appoint you as his spokesman? I must have missed the memo.

Congratulations. You take first prize as the most immature poster on FR.

So that justifies Ted “the only principled candidate in the race” Cruz doing it?

Trump has been on both sides of many positions. Pointing that out is not a lie of omission. It is pointing out he was for the other side of the issue.

Trump does not immune himself from criticism by flip flopping on issues and crying lie of omission when called on the old position.

But with my example, Trump does acknowledge he will commit a lie of omission. That example was not a flip flop by Holiday Inn or Trump. He simply withheld data during a deal negotiation. It’s part of his art of the deal.

He is currently negotiating a deal for your vote - do you believe he has suspended his tactics that got him this far?

It also applies to saying one thing and a different thing in the same sentence. Can’t have it both ways.

“Your an idiot right?”

Well, between you and I, I know that the proper grammatical contraction of “you are” is “you’re”, and not “your”.

Now who is the idiot.
