How Scalia and Ted Cruz Saved the 2nd Amendment
THe American Thinker ^ | February 19, 2016 | Daniel John Sobieski

Since the passing of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, the GOP presidential field has, in a rare show of unity, supported Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's statement that Scalia's replacement should be determined by the results of the November election. Democratic hypocrites like Sen. Chuck Schumer accuse the GOP of obstructionism, the memory of their blocking of George W. Bush nominees having faded.

They, while insisting that President Obama has the Constitutional right to nominate a replacement, which he does, forget the Senate's Constitutional role to advise and consent -- or not consent. They can say no -- or even "not yet". Yes, President Obama won election twice, but the voters also gave the Republicans their Senate majority, and if the 2014 election was about anything, it was about stopping the Obama agenda. The GOP Senate majority has been criticized for not keeping their pledge, but this is a chance toi not only stop the Obama gun control agenda but to save the Constitution.

Sen. Ted Cruz has warned that we are only one justice away from having the Second Amendment guaranteeing our right to keep and bear arms written out of the Constitution. He is aware of President Obama's gun control agenda and that his appointee to the Supreme Court would echo the anti-gun views of President Obama's pick to be Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy. Cruz opposed the anti-gun Murthy, telling CNN's Candy Crowley as Murthy's nomination battle was underway:

"Of course we should have a surgeon general in place," Cruz told Crowley. "And we don't have one because President Obama, instead of nominating a health professional, he nominated someone who is an anti-gun activist.

Killing the 2nd Amendment has always been a top priority of the Left:

Al and Tipper Gore worked to associate mental health with our right to keep and bear arms.

Eric Holder as been a life-time advocate for gun control.

The list is long.

How Obama Denied Conservative Judges a Vote

".............Obama not only seeks to break the laws of the land, to make his own laws and then to demand that everyone abide by them, but he also wants a double standard in which these unique powers that he has claimed will be exclusive to his political movement. That goes beyond putting party ahead of country. It is the wholesale replacement of country with party and party with totalitarian ideology.

When he fought conservative judges based purely on ideology, Obama put party ahead of country. His judicial nominees were unqualified radicals who were manifestly hostile to the Constitution and put party ahead of country on the Supreme Court. Now Obama pleads with Republicans to put country ahead of party even while he schemes to once again find a way to put party ahead of country."......

Hillary Clinton: Racism Behind GOP Push to Block Obama Supreme Court Nominee

"Hillary Clinton broke out in a vicious coughing fit about two-thirds of the way through a speech she gave in Harlem on Tuesday.

As she struggled to get it under control, first with water and then eventually a cough drop, Clinton riffed, "Too much to say," as the crowded auditorium at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture cheered her on.

Clinton, speaking to an incredibly supportive audience in her home state, suggested that Republican opposition to President Obama's plan to appoint a Supreme Court justice to take the late Antonin Scalia's seat is predicated on the inherent racism that has made Obama the enemy for the past seven years of his administration.

"That's in keeping with what we've heard all along, isn't it? Many Republicans talk in coded, racial language about takers and losers. They demonize President Obama and encourage the ugliest impulses of the paranoid fringe. This kind of hatred and bigotry has no place in our politics or our country."....

Cruz's proposal to end lifetime tenure for justices likely to get scrutiny after Scalia's death

"WASHINGTON-Ted Cruz has long proposed, as part of his presidential campaign, ending lifetime tenure for all Supreme Court justices.

Cruz proposed a constitutional amendment last June after the Supreme Court ruled to uphold the Affordable Care Act and legalize same-sex marriage nationwide, saying the court had become a source of "judicial tyranny."

Such ideas are likely to become a prominent part of the presidential campaign now that Justice Antonin Scalia has died, leaving a vacancy on the court during an election year.

"The court's hubris and thirst for power have reached unprecedented levels," wrote Cruz in the National Review [June 26, 2015], quoting Scalia multiple times. "And that calls for meaningful action, lest Congress be guilty of acquiescing to this assault on the rule of law."

Supreme Court justices currently serve for life after they are nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate,in part to shield them from popular opinion and to allow the judiciary to act as a check on other branches of government.

Cruz would require justices to appear on the ballot for retention elections every eight years "beginning with the second national election after his or her appointment,"he wrote. If any justice failed to win both a majority of all voters and majorities in at least 25 states, the proposal would have stripped them of their seat and barred them from future Supreme Court terms.

The proposal was criticized from both sides of the aisle for its potential to politicize the bench, including within a Judiciary subcommittee chaired by Cruz."...........

Oh so basically at the same time he was bashing Romney for being “mean spirited” towards illegals. Was that part of his plan to make America Great again?

Guess who said this:

“This is another issue where you see the extremes of the two existing major parties. Democrats want to confiscate all guns, which is a dumb idea because only the law-abiding citizens would turn in their guns and the bad guys would be the only ones left armed... The Republicans walk the NRA line and refuse even limited restrictions. I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today’s internet technology we should be able to tell within 72 hours if a potential gun owner has a record.”

Would you care to define what an “assault” weapon is???

The whole purpose of lifetime appointment was to ensure they could be politically neutral. That’s not working out with this “living document” group.

Trump said that.

He defined an assault weapon as a fully automatic machine gun and SPECIFICALLY said an AR-15 was NOT an assault weapon.

Hint: I believe he said that in the same interview

BS.

Fully automatic machine guns are and were already illegal nearly everywhere. You can’t campaign on banning something that is already banned. What would be the point?

That is a stretch, however, Ted Cruz with the help of his buddy Roberts did save Obamacare. Thanks Ted!

It is in the interview. He evidently had the terms confused. He SPECIFICALLY said an AR-15 was not an assault rifle. Trump has some problems but this is not one of them.

RE “...Fully automatic machine guns are and were already illegal nearly everywhere...”

No, they’re not. Full auto firearms are not “illegal nearly everywhere” - they’re Class III NFA firearms that have to be registered, and you need a 200.00 dollar tax transfer stamp to own or transfer them. They’re completely legal in 40+ states. Similar situation with suppressors (or “silencers”, which is a misleading term).

RE “...banning something that is already banned...”

They’re not “banned”. They’re heavily regulated, and expensive, but they’re certainly not banned, except in a very few states.

Just for clarification purposes...

The ONLY way the 2nd is known to be ‘saved’ is when every single State returns to Constitutional carry and all laws on the books are stricken...

These arguments re: who said what vs. full-auto vs. semi vs. stamp-tax vs. is just further noise over the fact that they all violate ‘...shall not be infringed’.

Killing the 2nd Amendment has always been a top priority of the Left:

Which Left? The Council of Foreign Relations left ? The same CFR that Mrs. Cruz was a member of ? That left?

Ted pounds his chest spouting, Constitution ! Meanwhile, Heidi and her NWO cronies at the CFR are promoting a North American Community, (think Euro-peon Union), as long as her Wall Street pals get a cut of the action.

The CFR is not 2nd Amendment friendly, at all. The Cruz power couple is full of s***. Two life long DC-Wall Street insiders, pass.
