India-born judge Srikanth Srinivasan favourite for elevation
In this September 27, 2013 photo, Sri Srinivasan takes oath as a judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
Srinivasan is among President Barack Obama's likely options as he looks for a nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, who died on Saturday.
He was Mr. Obama's principal deputy solicitor general, most notably working on the successful fight against the Defence of Marriage Act.
Death of a serving judge of the U.S. Supreme Court has set off acrimonious exchanges between the Democrats and the Republicans on whether President Barack Obama should nominate a new judge in the last year of his presidency. Mr Obama has declared that he would nominate a replacement for Antonin Scalia who died on Saturday at 79, ending a controversial tenure through which he steered the court towards right with a series of pronouncements.
India-born Srikanth Srinivasan whose family came to the U.S from a village in Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu figures as the most probable choice to succeed Scalia, according to media reports. Forty-nine year old Srinivasan is currently U.S. Circuit Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, which served as a stepping-stone for at least three judges of the SC. Scalia too was in the Court of Appeals for DC before President Ronald Reagan nominated him to the Supreme Court.
Judge Srinivasan's appointment was confirmed by the Senate unanimously in 2013, a rare event given the Republican majority in the chamber. His bipartisan acceptability is among the reasons cited by a lot of U.S. commentators who believe President Obama could pick him for the post.

Disqualifies him immediately. The President swears to take care that the laws are faithfully executed, not "fight against" them in court.
Sorry, I thought the article said he was BORN IN INDIA!. My mistake.
Let the POS nominate away. The answer will be no, no, no.
No thanks. We'll pass.
Srinivasan appears to be a naturalized citizen, assuming he is a citizen.
They’re taking over all of the AMERICAN jobs in Silicon Valley. Might as well give ‘em the “Supreme Court” too. It’s just another part of Obonzo’s fundamentally deformed America.
You’re absolutely right, it’s complicated. There are even Christians with Arabic names like Mohammad, Ali, and Saeed.
But even a “John Smith” appointed by Obama will be a flaming lefty intent on undermining the Constitution with identity politics, we can count on it.
He was born in India.
“I guess weâve already run out of AMERICAN nominees.”
_____________
Evidently. But TED CRUZ likes him and voted for him.
Srikanth Srinivasan, of Virginia, was nominated to the U.S. Circuit Court Judge for Washington D.C. in May 2013. The tally was 97-0, including votes U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio.
Cruz, who clerked with Srinivasan at the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, quipped, “I am hopeful that our friendship will not be seen as a strike against you by some.”
Not that the guy is a conservative, but he's a less reliable liberal than someone a new Democratic president might appoint, especially since there's a good chance a Democratic President would bring in a Democratic Senate.
So, don't dismiss the guy. Just drag it out until the lame duck period after the election. If Hillary or Bernie wins, then confirm the guy so they don't get to appoint their guy. And if the Republican wins, either vote him down or don't vote on him. Let the new GOP resident pick his guy.
In trying to pick a more moderate guy (at least on the surface) Obama may have given some Republicans a good strategic option.
We’re becoming the United Nations.
The Right to keep and bear arms, to defend you self, family, home, and community, does not go away because they say so because the Second Amendment did not GRANT the Right, it only demanded the Government not mess with it.
The Constitution would not have been ratified without the Bill of Rights, and any attempt to strip those rights becomes an effective dissolution of the original compact.
Well, AuntB, apparently They ALL voted for him. But that was for the job he has now, not for SCOTUS.
Of course Trump didn't vote for him, because he couldn't make that deal.
What the hell? Can we, for Pete’s sake, put AMERICANS into these positions in the USA?
Here are the talking points:
1. The GOP has already approved of this guy.
2. If the Republicans oppose an Indian it is because they are RACISTS (That one point will have every Repub cowering---including and especially Cruz, because he's up for election and can't afford to alienate any voters, especially open-borders voters.)
There is your path to dude's confirmation by SUMMER. Book it.
IMHO there should be NO FOREIGN born SC justices or anything else in the USA. I hope Trump will jump on this. It's a JOKE we'd have a born INDIAN on our Supreme Court. More cultural suicide.
This is a slap in the face to Americans. Should never happen.
We are in the late-Empire phase where we a ruled by a series of “Barbarian Emperors” from the provinces.
This is how Sen. McConnell will get Ted Cruz out of the race. He’ll play footsie with Obama’s nominee making confirmation looking likely. Cruz will then have to chose: allow Obama to have his life real nomiee, or come off the campaign trail to oppose him.
