Hotel magnate Donald Trump donated $5,000 to Sen. Ted Cruz's leadership PAC in January, according to new campaign records.
Trump's show of support for the Texas Republican's leadership PAC -- the maximum allowed under the law per election cycle -- is an indication that the men are becoming political allies.
The relationship between Trump and Cruz initially appeared to get off to a rocky start. In August, Trump said he wasn't sure whether Cruz could be president because he was born in Canada.
But in the months that followed, Trump has spoken favorably about the Tea Party darling, who has been faring well in polls of possible 2016 contenders while making trips to Iowa, New Hampshire and Florida.
At a Republican event at Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida, Trump called Cruz a "very special guy."

Well Trump has a long history of donating to dubious characters /S
This is a nothingburger
In my youth, I would collect pennys for UNICEF in little orange hard paper things that were similar to the containers for Chinese take out.
So did many others, guess we’re all to blame for something then too ... ?
I wonder if this qualifies for Cruz to roundly condemn himself for being one of the liberals Trump donated to? I mean he loudly proclaims that Trump cannot resist giving to liberals (although, of course, that is a Cruz lie because has given as much to conservatives).
That takes the argument about Trump donating to Hillary out of play. If anyone mentions it all Trump has to do is say “I donated to Ted Cruz too”. End of discussion.
It’s fair to say Trump has donated to more than not
But HOW can THIS be? Why, Trump’s not a conservative, why oh why would a non-conservative donate to a conservative?
Overcome by the events of last night ...
2 years ago? Alot can change in 2 years. Hell alot has changes in the last few months.

Somehow that was definitely NOT on display at the SC debate. Good thing there were no weapons allowed in that room.
Okay so donating to Cruz is a mark against Trump. But none of the other candidates are even close.

I believe in the first debate Trump mentioned he had donated to quite a few on stage. Probably referring to their local runs, not their Presidential run.
Shows he has no principles - he can go from saying Cruz is ineligible to donating to his campaign to saying he is ineligible when it suits his needs.
He either knows that Cruz is eligble, in which case he’s lying now, or he donated to the campaign of someone who shouldn’t be president. Nice moral compass, Donald.
But oh yeah, we can *totally* believe him now when he says what he knows we want to hear.
I voted for W as governor and POTUS. Today, I’m ashamed of my actions but it was the right thing to do at the time. The times change. People change.
