UN Director-General Ban Ki-Moon spoke at Park East Synagogue in New York on Saturday, in a speech for International Holocaust Remembrance Day - but he was met with boos in light of his recent virulently anti-Israeli statements.
Two weeks ago on Tuesday Ban expressed sympathy for murderous Palestinian terrorism in Israel, saying, "it is human nature to react to occupation." The comment was met with outrage in Israel.
In his speech at the synagogue Ban steered completely clear of Israel, instead only speaking about the universal messages from the Holocaust regarding the need to combat racism and violence. But the crowd did not let him off the hook, jeering and heckling him as he spoke.
"The world must work together in order to build bridges in the struggle against anti-Semitism, racism against Muslims and all other types of hatred," Ban said.
âThe Holocaust was a colossal crime. Six million Jews were systematically rounded up and murdered. Millions of others were killed alongside them - prisoners of war, political dissidents, members of minority groups, such as Roma and Sinti, homosexuals and persons with disabilities," he added.
âToday, I am deeply disturbed by the massacres in South Sudan, by the continued carnage in Syria, and by the atrocities being inflicted by Daesh (Islamic State) and Boko Haram. In todayâs climate of growing global fear and alienation, we must not lose sight of the fundamental truth that all humans are born with inalienable rights, dignity and worth.â

Ban Ki Moon’s tenure as leader of the UN should be drawing to a close soon, I hope. Isn’t this the job Obama hopes to get after leaving office? I hope not.
Headline is funny as hell, in context..
Could he possibly be worse than Bonky, Kofi and Boutros combined? Wait. Don’t answer that.
On second thought, let’s call the whole thing off. Move the UN to some other nation, and let them leech off of that nation for the next few decades, all the while blaming that nation for most the world’s problems. England or Canada may be foolish enough to carry that cross. Australia or Germany, I don’t think so.
Sub-Saharan Africa would be ideal. That way they can live right near where the effects of their arrogant meddlings are most apparent.
You are right! Trump probably already has a project in mind for the UN building site on the river.
Or how about moving them to Sderot, so they can see first-hand what regular missile bombardments are like.
Don't forget the real Nazi, Kurt Waldheim.
Oh, yeah. Senior moment, there. Who can forget dear Kurt.
According to Netanyahu and the EU, Obama is bucking for UN Sec Gen position. At that point, the UN building in NY should be blown to smithereens and the UN Sec barred from the US.
Kenya ought to support that appointment.
Truly the best option is to keep it where it is, but to fund only an equal share either population basis or equal amount by country. Cut the diplomatic visas to just one ambassador, one assistant and one secretary per country. Other office hires get no diplomatic protection. UN Security can be armed using only the weapons regular New York citizens are allowed to carry. The building itself - maintenance, utilities, management etc - staffed by residents of NY/NJ. Stop pretending to give it any more importance than it has or any more attention than its accomplishments are due.
Why is the headline funny in context? I’m only mildly surprised that a shoe was not thrown at him, but Upper East Side Jews are VERY polite.
I am glad they booed him, but why was the jerk invited in the first place?
UN “Ban”....
Good one!
The dumb bastard actually said "racism against Muslims" -- Islam is medieval fascism, it isn't a race (although it is profoundly racist).Ban Ki-Moon keyword (selections):
If you'd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

Deserved. If he's upset at his treatment, he can just blame it on the Jews.
