New presidential poll shows Cruz leading Trump 30-25 in Texas

AUSTIN - Ted Cruz leads a new presidential primary poll in Texas, just over a month before the U.S. senator will face his home-state voters in the much-anticipated Super Tuesday contest.

A KTVT-TV/Dixie Strategies survey released Thursday shows Cruz at 30 percent among likely GOP primary voters in Texas. He's followed by mogul Donald Trump at 25 percent, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida at 12 percent and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 8 percent.

That's a change from October, when the same pollsters said Cruz was trailing in Texas behind Trump and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson.

The latest poll, which has an error margin of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points, contacted 1,001 likely GOP primary voters on Monday and Tuesday. It appears that Dixie Strategies uses automated telephone interviews, which some experts say are less reliable than other methods.

That CBS poll was JAN 18... Cruz 45, Trump 30.

The previous KTVT poll that they cite is from 10/23 - 10/24. That one was Carson 23, Trump 22, Cruz 14, Bush 13, Rubio 7, and Carly 6. They must only ask kids on campus in the DFW area, I think. Carson has clearly tanked, down at least 16... Cruz is +16, Trump +3, and Rubio +5.

I thought I was right, Cruz did lead Trump by 15 points in a poll last month. I thought it was 30-15 but it was actually 45-30.

Cruz got a lower percentage of the vote in Nov 2012 than Mediocre Mitt. And I hardly think of Romney as being a big hit in Texas.

I don't doubt this poll is close, or correct. Dixie strategies does well when they try to capture accurately.

However, if I were influential in the Trump campaign, I would put up 300 billboards with Cruz picture on them.

And I would caption: Canadian Citizen Until 2014.

My ad blockers block all pics but since you copied don-o on it, I’ll assume it was offensive. ;)

"152 delegates WINNER TAKE ALL."

Not even close.

Texas moved up their primary from May to March 1st.

ALL delegates awarded before March 15th are awarded proportionately above a 15% threshold.

If the polling is accurate Cruz can't come away from Texas with more than 50 delegates.

Considering that I’ve been told by FReepers that Trump leads Cruz in Texas, I find it pleasing to hear that most of them are not fooled by a slick Yankee who brags about duping people in his books.

Well that’s just convient.

Hey just take Cruz’s numbers and tack on however much you can pull out of your rear!

You’re bringing facts into the discussion.
Is that allowed in primary season?

Geez. It’s his home state and Trump is a New Yorker. He should be beating Trump by 50 points!

Cruz was my first choice until trump came around. After Cruz’s dirty behavior in Iowa I now see him as a big fake - might as well be a televangelist. Now i simply won’t vote for him even if he is the nominee.

Western Canada and Texas are kind of similiar, at least to my view. I can see why Raphael Bienvienidos Cruz chose to go there.

Texas......

Texas has 155 delegates. Under Rule 38 of the Rules of the Republican Party of Texas as adopted
by the 2014 Republican State Convention, 108 delegates will be awarded, three per congressional
district in a graduated proportional manner based upon the primary result in each congressional
district, the three RNC members from Texas and 6 additional at-large delegates will be awarded by
the same method based upon the statewide vote, and an additional 38 at-large delegates, are
allocated by the winner-take all secret ballot at the May 6-8 Texas Republican State Convention
for a presidential candidate. However, Section 9(c) of Rule 38 provides that in the event the RNC
Chair or RNC Rules Committee determines that the two-step allocation process violates RNC Rules,
all 47 at-large delegates will be allocated in a graduated proportional manner based on the
statewide primary vote. Texas received notification in May 2015 that the RNC Chair determined
that the two-step allocation process, so all delegates will be allocated on the proportional
basis of the primary vote.

What will happen to this Texas poll two weeks from now if Cruz finishes fourth in NH as some polls are now suggesting?

If he finishes fourth to Kasich, that's going to hurt. A lot.

So much for the coronation.

Have we seen this before? Oh yeah, President Huckabee, and President Santorum.
