New presidential poll shows Cruz leading Trump 30-25 in Texas

AUSTIN - Ted Cruz leads a new presidential primary poll in Texas, just over a month before the U.S. senator will face his home-state voters in the much-anticipated Super Tuesday contest.

A KTVT-TV/Dixie Strategies survey released Thursday shows Cruz at 30 percent among likely GOP primary voters in Texas. He's followed by mogul Donald Trump at 25 percent, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida at 12 percent and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 8 percent.

That's a change from October, when the same pollsters said Cruz was trailing in Texas behind Trump and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson.

The latest poll, which has an error margin of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points, contacted 1,001 likely GOP primary voters on Monday and Tuesday. It appears that Dixie Strategies uses automated telephone interviews, which some experts say are less reliable than other methods.

“Why? You think Texans are in love with Cruz.”

Yes, Texans outside of liberal Austin do love Cruz. You’re in the tiny minority.

I would love to meet you in person though, assuming you’re a registered republican, because you’ll be the first Trump supporter that I’ve ever met, that isn’t a demoncrat, in all my travels throughout the State.

It will, once the campaign really gets here. For now, we’re just watching from afar.

Trump’s own words on eminent domain will not wear well in Texas. Not at all.

(No, Donald, eminent domain does NOT pay the owner more than the property is worth. Flat out wrong.)

Same as Rubio here in FL. All I see is mostly Trump, a couple of Cruz and not one Rubio yet.

“What will the Cruzaholics say if Cruz loses Texas in the primary?”

There is absolutely no chance that Cruz will lose to Trump in Texas. That is a FACT! Trump won’t get half of Cruz’s vote here.

Texas will not be “winner takes all”... the GOP changed that after 2012 and the success of the TEA Party. NO state is “WTA” before mid-March.

“You would think it would be more.”

I have to agree. Cruz has been ahead in every poll I have seen in Texas. I don’t think Trump has spent a dime in Texas yet.

I prefer Trump but I find it hard to believe he’s that close to a sitting Senator from Texas.

This is a KTVT-TV/Dixie Strategies survey that had Cruz DOWN before but NOW Cruz is UP.

It's what Cruz is up to that bothers me, and I'm not talking about polls. It's the sleazy Clinton-like tactics that violate conservative principles. He's not what he portrays himself to be.

Yeah, you are right, make that half WTA.

Proportional with 50% winner-take-all threshold

Didn’t Cruz lead Trump in Texas last month by 15 points. 30-15?

Nope.

Now that you’ve spoken, Texas should just cancel the primary and award the state to Cruz. Save alot of time and money.

RE: New presidential poll shows Cruz leading Trump 30-25 in Texas

I’m quite surprised with the small gap. This is Texas. I would have expected the lead to be wider, but it is close to the margin of error.
