Windham, New Hampshire (CNN)The day after winning the Iowa caucuses, Ted Cruz issued an apology to Republican rival Ben Carson for falsely telling Iowa caucusgoers that the retired neurosurgeon planned to quit the race, calling it a "mistake."
Cruz said in a statement Tuesday that his campaign staff saw a CNN report that Carson was dropping out, although CNN had not characterized Carson's actions that way.
"Last night when our political team saw the CNN post saying that Dr. Carson was not carrying on to New Hampshire and South Carolina, our campaign updated grassroots leaders just as we would with any breaking news story," Cruz said in a statement first shared with CNN. "That's fair game. What the team then should have done was send around the follow-up statement from the Carson campaign clarifying that he was indeed staying in the race when that came out."

“Who does that?”
Maybe someone with family issues to deal with. We don’t know. Shifting the blame to Carson for Cruz’ bad acts isn’t logical.
Well you read it on FR last night. Many called it by saying Cruz wouldn’t be discussed much if at all, the story would be Rubio and it is. Granted, Cruz was favored so his “win” isn’t much of a story. Rubio will blow by him now with all this press.
Iowa has only picked 2 of 6 in the last six contested Republican caucuses. Wrong in 1980, 1988, 2008 and 2012. Right in 1996 and 2000.
“Well, when his daughters would have Tea Parties, he would attend.”
Did he wear his fairy booties?
I've always preferred Cruz to Trump by a good margin, but I was struck by their speeches last night. Trump actually surprised me. He was gracious, humble, and brief. Cruz's speech kind of threw me off a bit. A saw some folks at work making fun of the bombast and inflections, and it seemed off to me as well.
This wasn’t a “rumor”. It was reported openly on CNN’s news broadcast and in multiple tweets from CNN twitter accounts. Those tweets have been posted here as well as the screenshot of the CNN news report.
CNN should be on the hot seat. The fact that they are lying about what their reports actually claimed, in order to smear Cruz, should tell us all we need to know about who is guilty.
Just amazing the lock-stepness of the media—all of them :(
< trumpeteering = on>
Why were Cruz workers watching CNN in the first place???
See, Cruz is a communist
< trumpeteering = off>
“...picked up the 4 or 5 percent he needed to beat Trump.”
That’s what was behind the lies, bottom line.
Funny, I’m not seeing the everlasting “Cruz is a Christian” type posts on this thread. Real Christians are embarrassed by this type of dirty dealing.
And only Bush went on to win the general in 2000.
Yes, it is very scary. The more I’ve read today, the more disgusted I have become. It appears that the Cruz campaign had someone at every caucus to spread lies about the other candidates. Must be those Canadian values.
You’re on a CNN thread right now. Are you verifying with all the involved parties what is true and what isn’t? You’re not setting up for a very important caucus so you’d have a lot more available time to do the work, so how’s that going for you?
The media can easily keep politicians from doing their work simply by forcing them to be investigative journalists just to know exactly when the media is lying (at the 11th hour). It’s sort of like Lois Lerner keeping “True the Vote” in bureaucratic hell so they couldn’t keep the vote accountable in 2012.
The sad thing is that as long as Cruz gets blamed for CNN’s lies, that’s all we’re gonna get from CNN. Those who thought Trump defeated the power of the media underestimated the slime of the media and their ability to change tactics and exploit partisan spirit to manipulate election results.
If Freepers swallow it so easily, goodbye America.
Well tell your analysis to the Iowa Secretary of State who issued a written reprimand. Not a good sign.
I do recognize that Hillary or Bernie will use your same arguments.
...no doubt landing in court & appeals court.
The sooner the better for everyone.
Lol, I haven't spread any unverified information out to voters in an attempt to sway their votes. You can't hide from it. It was irresponsible for the Cruz campaign to spread that misinformation without double and triple checking it first.
Seems Cruz has a problem with ethics.
You say bad actions, I say “interpreting the news.”
Get over it. It’s a caucus. They could have walked in and said, “Ben Carson is a lizard person who lives underground and seeks world domination so he and his fellows can eat people,” and no rules would be broken from a caucus perspective.
Believe me, there were PLENTY of lies tossed around about Cruz by Carson people and Trumpettes that night. You can guarantee the LIE of, “He’s not a natural born citizen” was tossed out there in multiple caucus locations. And, if we want to bring social media and tweets into it, there is MUCH MORE damning evidence that they lied about Cruz.
sure.. do the dirty trick.. get the political benefit and then apologize after it’s too late to do anything about it.. so sorry I didn’t know the gun was loaded what funeral home do I send the flowers?
Born in CAnada a few years ago puts him under a different citizenship statute than Cruz, who is in a different citizenship statute than Obama was.
There’s a government website that you can use to see if you’re a US citizen. It’s a maze because it depends on the time and place of birth, the marital status of the mother, the years the mother lived in the US after the age of 14, etc. Citizenship law is a maze. But not when you’re talking about a 2-year-old, because the citizenship laws haven’t been changed in the last 2 years.
I would imagine Cruz realized he was a dual citizen when he checked out his eligibility, but I don’t know. Why don’t you ask him?
