Donald Trump announced Friday he raised $6 million for veterans at his fundraiser in Iowa the night before.
But this would appear a significant increase from what he's given to the cause before, according to some reports which questioned whether the billionaire businessman has been a consistent donor to vet groups.
Showbiz 411 reports that the Donald J. Trump Foundation gave a total of $2.6 million in charitable donations in the last three years, but only a fraction has gone to veterans groups. In 2012, Trump gave nothing, in 2013 he gave $6,000 and in 2014 he gave $16,000, according to the report.
The Weekly Standard reports that the foundation donated $57,000 to veterans groups between 2009 and 2013, only a small amount of the $5.5 million it gave in total during that period of time.

"These reports are not accurate. Mr. Trump has made substantial personal contributions to a number of Veterans organizations as well as in-kind donations," Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks** told FoxNews.com Friday.

The Weekly Standard reports that Trump's foundation, meanwhile, gave at least $100,000 to the Clinton Foundation.

I know of one too, and he is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Would be very interesting to see a verifiable documentation backing your personal assertion ‘Itâs not accurate but another attempt by the media to smear Trump’?
Show us the money.
That's right...I have to agree with your assessment. It also shielded his ego from the potential for criticism and possible voters leaving his flock that he would have otherwise had going it alone on stage, if fewer showed up or watched....He wouldn't risk that considering the dynamics happening over his running from the debate.
Trumps first concern will always be protecting his ego above all else...one way or the other . “Dressing “ whatever stage or venue is necessary to shore that up. and it will generally be in direct proportion to whatever he's being criticized about....in this case he was taking a beating for running from the debate. He will always have to stage a “show” in view of his followers and critics that will “prove otherwise” in his own eyes.
After 30 years or so in the entertainment industry Trump knows well how to ‘create whatever stage’ is needed for the “show” to go on.... To sustain his viewing audience... and to protect himself.
Live by the sword, die by the sword.
What is wrong with you? I made no assertions just said I’d seen these stories and the media is pushing it.
Do you read posts before you respond?
Itâs not accurate but another attempt by the media to smear Trump. ‘Its not accurate’ is an unsubstantiated assertion, until you, the asserter, backs your assertion up with verifiable sources.
Put the reefer down and slowly back away.
And at this point in 1980, Jimmy Carter was leading Ronald Reagan in popularity, 62%-30%.
A long way to go to the nomination and election.
Quit jumping on the “now popular” bandwagon.
Never on the wagon. Nothing has changed since the shock of the first debate. Trump leads. Rabble below jockeying for the seat next to head of table, because leaders lead, politicians politic, and collectivist steal from us all.
It’s TRUMP or Hillary.
I see an early Trump domination in the polls but a falling off in Iowa, yet you see that he's already sewn-up the nomination with Hillary! as his eventual opponent.
First of all, it looks quite likely that her thighness will be going down hard either from an indictment or the mindless low-info voters losing interest in her and supporting the Bern.
Secondly, Trump, IMHO, will be a passing infatuation with a lot of his supporters, especially as they see the numerous times Trump has supported liberals and liberal policies in the past.
Oh, it's going to get more down and dirty like we've never seen it before...EVER.
But of course, time will tell if I'm wrong, but I sincerely doubt your match-up.
BTW, welcome to Free Republic.
We're not running for the presidency, and we're not billionaires. Day-to-day expenses are a concern in a way they're not with Trump. Trump is using the donations to defuse charges about his liberal record. For non-true believers, it stinks of deceptive behavior. Do we really want to find out that Trump is a white Obama after he's elected?
Because it is just a hit piece produced by people who hate seeing others be happy and create a little happiness for others.
So you really do not have anything to back up your bogus claim. How Trump-like. If you did have any verification, you would have been able to respond other than childishly.
May I assist you to references to psychological ‘projection’?
Dem party will not let Clinton lose. Just creating a little drama for the folks. The nomination is hers.
Media including FOX has and has had the long knives out for Trump once they realized he is serious. He poses the biggest threat to the Washington entitled establishment of Dems and Reps, and also the media who relish their power to choose for us. As exampled by FOX this weekend strongly pushing Rubio, while completely ignoring the leader, Trump. These media stories and non stories aren’t accidental there deliberate, Rubio is a lightweight, they know this, he doesn’t have the persona to take on Clinton and press. That then leads to the obvious conclusion, there in the bag for Hillary. Quite disturbing to me that so many conservatives here don’t see whats happening. I’ll state it again, if Trump is not our candidate, Clinton will be president.
A good thing too. It turned into an actual debate instead of "The Trump Show" - reality TV doesn't interest me much.
From 2007 account (skipping the material about his marriages):
..... Trump reportedly benefited in the 1970s from the financially strained New York City government's willingness to give tax concessions in exchange for investment. He proposed reconstruction of the Commodore Hotel in 1976, funding the project with tax breaks, and eventually sold his stake to Hyatt Hotels two years later, when the construction started. ..... < snip >
..... Later in 1980, a similar situation would take place with the renovation of Wollman Skating Rink in Central Park. The New York City Government estimated the construction would take under three years, but after spending $12 million, the rink was still under renovation in 1986.
Trump Organization soared in the economic highs of the '80s with Donald's own real estate deals in residential and hotel properties. He and Ivana ruled Manhattan society, and his status grew on the contacts he made with politicians and other businessmen. ..... < snip >
..... In the late '80s, he acquired a shuttle service run by Eastern Airlines and renamed it the Trump Shuttle. Flights ran from New York's LaGuardia Airport to Boston's Logan Airport, and also to D.C.'s Reagan National Airport. He quickly defaulted on his loans, though, having been hit by the recession at the time, and the shuttle became operated by US Air as of 1992. Trump gave up ownership in 1994. ..... < snip >
..... Despite his difficulties, and loan debts of almost $2 billion, Trump continued to have multiple pots boiling... The real estate mogul, famous for being "the master of the deal," restructured his financial assets and debts using bankruptcy protection and offloaded some of his assets to banks and creditors in the early '90s.
His businesses, especially casinos, suffered, but he was soon on his way to a multi-million dollar comeback in the mid-late 1990s. Trump built up his reputation using media exposure to his advantage with numerous contacts, quotes and cameos.
Trump tried to overcome rumors and failed investments and to negotiate and reclaim any lost stakes in his Trump assets through financial loan and bond deals. ..... < snip >
..... Trump quit the Republican party in 1999 and switched to the Reform party, and ran for president again in 2000. Trump is a centrist who gives money to both parties, mostly maintaining Democratic contacts but openly admits he voted for President Bush because of his tax cut policy. He remains a friend of Democrats Sen. Chuck Schumer, Bill and Hillary Clinton and Sen. Frank Lautenberg. ..... In the 2004 presidential election, he gave $2,000 to both Bush and his rival John Kerry.
The rail yards along the Hudson River Trump acquired in the 1970s became the basis for a multi-billion dollar housing project, comprised of 5,700 units, called Trump Place. Trump Place expands along his entire Upper West Side rail yard property. ..... < snip >
..... Trump constantly hailed "The Apprentice" as "the best show on television," where he would note in every episode that something he did was the biggest, tallest, most successful or most expensive.
From another source, on 1987 parade :
..... Organizers received no contributions from the 200 corporations they asked ..... < snip > ..... Then Donald Trump, a nonveteran, agreed to throw in $200,000 as well as raise money from his friends, in exchange for being named grand marshal.
Since then, money has come in, though not enough to meet the original budget, which was reduced from $2.9 million to $2.4 million. Fireworks were just one of many cuts.
In conclusion : Donald Trump is quick to take the personal credit but in reality he had collected most of the donated money from the political and business friends and associates (OPM) and matched the funds in 1987 to "save" the parade that "was in transition" to another organization; then in 1995 in exchange for being named Grand Marshal, and $1M donation in 1983 to be Co-Chair and Founding Member of Vietnam Veterans Memorial (dedicated by NYC mayor Ed Koch in 1985), which is built not far from â and thus adding value to â his properties, generating great PR for himself and getting in-kind NYC contracts with tax breaks and expedited construction permits, again using veterans for his own financial benefit... until he needed to use them again recently to justify his ducking out of debate which couldn't improve his position but could very well damage it.
Q.E.I., Q.E.D.
Because he is rich, you feel Trump should “give his fair share”? You sound like quite the liberal or Communist, telling everyone else what to do with their money. People should be grateful, but instead Trump giving his own money away isn’t quite good enough for you. Easy for you to criticize. I’m sure you haven’t donated a damn dime.
And a very interesting profile on your member page. Some great quotes. I'd add one - "Money can't buy happiness but it can rent it for a good, long time!" - airborne
For what it's worth, I am supporting Ted Cruz. I just try to support people donating money for veterans. Regardless of their financial motives.
Lots of veterans charities get help from people who just want a tax write-off. Still helps my brothers - and THEY are all I care about. People like Trump will get theirs in the end.
Won’t make a wits difference with the Pied Piper’s lemmings as they listen only to the magical flute in their march toward the cliff while trying to drag everyone along to our sorrow.
This evening will tell.
Knowing some of the good people of Iowa, I am impressed with their integrity. I think Branstad made a mistake by claiming all of Iowa was in for the gubmit feed trough.
Iowa corn will sell just as well for food without the ethanol subsidies that only a few get in on.
I guess it will have to be Clinton based on your choices, its hard to chose between two Democrats. I am voting against both.
