The personalized letters target individual Iowa voters and identifies them as having failed to vote in prior elections. They are admonished and then encouraged to vote this year. In addition the letters identify the neighbors of the voter, and provides their voting history.
The text reads:
"You are receiving this election notice because of low expected voter turnout in your area. Your individual voting history as well as your neighbors' are public record. Their scores are published below, and many of them will see your score as well. CAUCUS ON MONDAY TO IMPROVE YOUR SCORE and please encourage your neighbors to caucus as well. A follow-up notice may be issued following Monday's caucuses".
In an effort to shame the recipient, the notice also informs the targeted voter their neighbors have also been notified of the recipients poor voting record.

I hate HuffPo and never read it. It’s one of the few sites I’ve considered blocking from my browser to make sure I never accidentally click on it.
Trump won’t be the next president. He is unelectable. The polls already show it. The decades worth of questionable behavior and statements from him and his team will provide endless fodder for the Democrats.
It would be nice if Trump was serious about it. I really don't think he is. Saying he is going to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it is just pie in the sky rhetoric. He's going to grant amnesty. He's already said so.
I think the only reason I could vote for him is because of all the candidates out there, he is the most Nationalistic. I like the fact that someone in this election has tapped into the idea that America is the best country on the planet and that we should emulate ourselves and not europe or Venus. But then most of his properties are here in the USA. Maybe there's an ulterior motive there.
I am very very disappointed in the entire field of candidates. Scott Walker dropped out too soon. Donald Rumsfeld is too damned old. Sarah Palin is too good looking. Phil Robertson is too busy. George Patton is dead.
Crap. Where's my prozac?
18 U.S. Code § 594 â Intimidation of voters
Whoever intimidates, threatens, coerces, or attempts to intimidate, threaten, or coerce, any other person for the purpose of interfering with the right of such other person to vote or to vote as he may choose, or of causing such other person to vote for, or not to vote for, any candidate for the office of President, Vice President, Presidential elector, Member of the Senate, Member of the House of Representatives, Delegate from the District of Columbia, or Resident Commissioner, at any election held solely or in part for the purpose of electing such candidate, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.
If Cruz didn’t know about this I don’t how he saves himself, this will be viral in no time. I guess he can fire everyone involved and give a very humble sincere apology, not sure that would be enough, there is going to a lot of anger. Such talent ... probably lost now to help advance conservatism in this dark hour in America, it will haunt him in any election for anything.
Having just read the first 50 and now the comments at 300, it is clear that everyone feels this was a terrible idea. Some thought it was a con from another campaign, but that appears to have been silenced by a Cruz campaign spokesman. See my other comments at #336 with link to (desperate sounding) announcement of $19 million war chest.
This more than mailer. It’s an invasion of my privacy.
When trump talks, I don’t feel like he’s lying to me.
He’s not what I would call a practiced or professional speaker.
I originally made fun of how he speaks, but I regret that, because it comes across as honest.
In terms of speaking style, Trump is the exact opposite of Rubio, and I already know Rubio to be a liar.
Whoever posted the photo to the internet had no problem putting the neighbors’ names on public display.
Oh, please. This is a political campaign. Have you looked at some of the terrible things the founders said about each other in campaigns? Just look at the stuff Romney and Gingrich hurled at each other last time in political ads. This is just a silly advertisement that does no harm to anyone.
I couldn't agree more, and I am not a Trump fan either. I'm adamant about sticking to my principles, and refuse to defend the indefensible.
I see more Cruz-haters coming out of the woodwork on queue.
I think they should redirect some of this brotherly love they have for Cruz toward Hillary and the liberals of both parties. His supporters have declared Trump is the anointed one chosen to deliver us from an oppressive Pharaoh and lead us into the desert to the promised land. Why should anyone doubt his ability to part the deep sea, climb the mountains, enforce the laws given to him. and provide manna to sustain us along the way. He has all the answers. What could go wrong? /s
Oh that made me laugh!
Oy, oy, oy this was definitely not a good thing for him to do.
I too was initially for Walker... then he, I guess ran out of money... then I came across this http://laurenstephens.com and became totally suspect of all of the candidates....
Sad to say, but this stinks like something liberal democrats pull. The smart boy does have a devilish side to him.
Honestly, really, why aren’t you calling for the firing of the idiots who thought this was a good campaign tactic? Look at the impact this is having. It’s THOSE brain-dead marketers who are making Ted Cruz look HORRIBLE. You can’t POSSIBLY think this was a good idea. Quit denigrating Trump, who has nothing to do with this, and do something constructive: urge Ted to fire these marketing jerks. They are doing him NO good.
ABSOLUTE BALONEY! These are PUBLIC records, there's nothing PRIVATE about them. There's a web site that actually has all the voting data for Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida available to query. I've enjoyed looking at it many times to see the political affiliation and voting history of people I meet. Voting records are public (not who you voted for, but everything else pretty much). If you thought otherwise, you were wrong.
Ah, but my little Jedi...Trump will be electable....all you have to do is pull the lever for him and its all done... :) Have a good night my FRiend. Sorry about the Cruz thing. It was a bone head mailer on his campaign’s part. I could see how in the inner workings of a stressful campaign that it might have sounded like a good idea, but sometimes I guess focus groups could be useful. This should have been submitted to an outside focus group to judge their reaction.
It’s truly shocking.
I didn’t expect this from Cruz, I really didn’t. SMH.
This is standard boilerplate campaign mailing stuff. I don’t buy that ANYONE is outraged about it. This all fake, phony politicking to try to make like Cruz look bad. It’s the standard Trumpkin M.O. Trump can’t win on the issues, he can only win by viciously attacking other candidates and stoking people’s fears about them.
You miss the point. It smacks of Big Brother. If I were on the fence about voting for Cruz and got one of these things, I’d tell him where to shove it.
