The personalized letters target individual Iowa voters and identifies them as having failed to vote in prior elections. They are admonished and then encouraged to vote this year. In addition the letters identify the neighbors of the voter, and provides their voting history.
The text reads:
"You are receiving this election notice because of low expected voter turnout in your area. Your individual voting history as well as your neighbors' are public record. Their scores are published below, and many of them will see your score as well. CAUCUS ON MONDAY TO IMPROVE YOUR SCORE and please encourage your neighbors to caucus as well. A follow-up notice may be issued following Monday's caucuses".
In an effort to shame the recipient, the notice also informs the targeted voter their neighbors have also been notified of the recipients poor voting record.

So you imagine the way to get them to vote “FOR” you is to shame them? Sometimes the personal touch helps. The sweetest thing to a person’s ears is their own name. Put someone who is particularly good at relating to people in charge of getting to that narrow targeted group. Build them up to make them think their act of joining Ted’s crew at a caucus will save the world. Make them feel like the most important member absolutely necessary for Ted to win. People like to feel important, needed, a part of something. They may want to be asked personally.
As for response, I can pretty well assure you that Cruz will get more people voting against him than for him from this stunt. Because whether one or two are motivated by all this “tough love” to vote for him or not, the blowback from this idiotic attempt to GOTV is devastating.
I'll have to see how the rest of this campaign goes. I don't vote until June. By then Trump will have wrapped this puppy up. If that's the case, then I'll vote for Carson. Then I'll vote for Mickey Mouse in the General. Since I live in California, my vote in the General means nothing. Now if Trump can deport all the illegal aliens, then maybe California would become a red state again. But it would also have a population the size of South Dakota.
Nope, it’s the Trumpkins who insist Cruz must be perfect while giving Trump a pass on everything, saying he’s changed or that he’ll learn to do better in the future, or that conservative values were actually wrong in the first place and Trump has a whole new order figured it that will fix everything.
And so the cult of Trump continues to try to destroy one of the only truly conservative politicians we have fighting on our side at a high level just because he threatens Trump’s coronation. And then we wonder why the government isn’t conservative, when we fall right in line with any media attacks and memes against true conservatives like Gingrich and Cruz.
But, but, maybe it’s just a Canadian thing.
As compared to the mailer the Trump Campaign sent out. Did you see it upthread. It was a nice formal letter inviting you to caucus. The location as to where to caucus was provide along with exact times and how long it would take. They even included a voter registration form in case you needed it. Now that was class.
The Cruz Campaign sends out a threatening VOTING VIOLATION like you are some sort of criminal. You and your neighbors names are on it and you are graded an F! Not even a C or D giving folks the benefit of the doubt. Heck C would have been nice...but no...Give folks the F. It looks like a big giant F-& if you know what I mean.
HIs campaign stepped on their wangers with this one. I kinda fell sorry for him.
Pretty much.
OK, let’s hear what you think of this email I got from the Cruz campaign yesterday. I thought it was a bit over the top but then remember getting very similar emails from Tom Tancredo.
From: Lauren
“______, this is of the utmost importance. Here in the office, we have been trying to get a hold of you to ask for your immediate help—I’m emailing you now because I have this written down as the best way to reach you...
If this email reaches you, please respond ASAP, Ted asked me to reach you immediately—he is counting on you, and I really hope you can respond right now.
He’s been trying to reach you about the situation developing in Iowa, and with the Iowa Caucus in just three days, it has reached a critical importance.
We’re falling behind. See the spreadsheet below
I’m sorry to say those numbers are correct. That means we’re more than $149,000 short of what we need to fund our Iowa volunteers for Caucus day on Monday.
At Ted’s request, I’m asking you for a personal favor—will make one last emergency donation to the campaign?”
It goes on in this vein for a few more paragraphs, assuring me that Ted will be informed the minute I make my donation, etc.
I thought it was really funny and silly but it did give me a temporary urge to donate. I quickly overcame that but I felt it momentarily. I wasn’t offended by it, I just thought it was lame.
But was it?
You’re ignoring what is an obvious big brother tactic.
Best comment on it, when there was incredulity that Cruz would actually do something this dumb:
Stephen Miller â@redsteeze 4h4 hours ago I bet John Kasich's dad could get to the bottom of this Cruz mailer mystery
I don’t think you should lose hope. I mean that sincerely. Could it get worse than Obama? I mean, the guy won on a platform of hating America and promising to knock us down a peg. Twice. He got his wish, and now everyone is suffering.
And now, we have Trump. His platform is to rise up again as a nation. To reposition us as a proud world power. And he doesn’t do all the BS focus group Frank Luntz nonsense and he skips GOPe debates and he just does not care about what anyone says, he just will do what it takes to make us lead.
And then, there’s Cruz. He will send you a nasty letter that says your neighbors know you are a douchebag because you didn’t vote... at higher than 55%. And his FR lawyers are Jedis who are paid by the post to tell you why you should be shunned for not supporting the “Anointed One”.
LOL
In an article with the Guardian, Cruz said his funding and outreach apparatus "is very much the Obama model - a data-driven, grassroots-driven campaign - and it is a reason why our campaign is steadily gathering strength".
Similar mailers were sent out during the 2012 race to encourage people to vote for Barack Obama, and were also met with condemnation.

Sorry, Charlie (I just had to say that, and you probably are old enough to remember the commercials), but if true, Cruz is done. In fact, extra done as in lucky to hold his seat.
Sorry, your guy schlonged himself.
You clearly have no clue how bad this is.
Look at the number of replies on this FR thread ... That's usually an indicator of how much this is impacting the country. Cruz needs to fire the people behind this bonehead move. He needs to fire them NOW to prevent further damage.
Trump has engaged in true demagoguery, dishonesty, offensive and juvenile behavior and the smearing of good people in his attempted hostile takeover of the presidency. He doesn’t deserve a second look. He and his campaign team who regularly spews out vile threats represent the worst of politics. He is a truly unhinged, antisocial, hateful, immoral personality that appeals to the lowest common denominator.
Jedi, this reflects very poorly on Cruz’s judgment. Unless he had nothing to do with this, then he lacks the necessary judgment to be the President. If he didn’t know about it or wasn’t paying attention, then it reflects poorly on his leadership.
This is a disaster. Don’t try to white wash it. If I got one of these mailers, I’d be angry as hell. I sure as hell wouldn’t vote for the idiot that sent it.
Read your posts. Still giggling at your behavior while counting up all the defense mechanisms for grief that are on display. It really is comedic; I thought that this kind of thing only happened when prime time TV people mocked the mentally ill.
You’ve made this isolated nerd a very happy person tonight.
So why do volunteers need to be funded? Sounds like voodoo economics to me... :)
Cruz did this to himself, not 100 Freepers...two of whom are from Iowa.
This forum is not the election, and we are observing and opining on what most of believe will cost Cruz dearly once the voting starts Monday.
Our votes are few.
