The personalized letters target individual Iowa voters and identifies them as having failed to vote in prior elections. They are admonished and then encouraged to vote this year. In addition the letters identify the neighbors of the voter, and provides their voting history.
The text reads:
"You are receiving this election notice because of low expected voter turnout in your area. Your individual voting history as well as your neighbors' are public record. Their scores are published below, and many of them will see your score as well. CAUCUS ON MONDAY TO IMPROVE YOUR SCORE and please encourage your neighbors to caucus as well. A follow-up notice may be issued following Monday's caucuses".
In an effort to shame the recipient, the notice also informs the targeted voter their neighbors have also been notified of the recipients poor voting record.

“Havana values.”
Nice one!
No, the guy is a 150 IQ idiot who can't figure out why nobody likes him.
I wonder how the neighbor who got an F rating will treat the neighbor who got an A rating.
Big mistake.
It’s their right to refuse to vote. Granted, this is a source from which to mine votes...but holy cow use a little more sugar and less vinegar. Seriously, you rate them as”f” how do you think they will respond? Adults generally don’t care for report cards.
It’s all over twitter:

It's safe to say Cruz is not involved in personally approving every mailer that goes out and most likely had not seen this one before it went out.
We're talking Midwest Republicans, not Obamacrats.
And even if the "outreach" was small and targeted, the backlash has begun. I'm not even in Iowa and I am imagining how FURIOUS I'd be over something like this.
He must have the most inept staff in the history of politics if he didn't think this would piss people off who have the ability to spread it worldwide through social media.
Either that, or the man is a complete social misfit, and he ordered it himself.
My pleasure!
I am stunned at the contrast in styles.
At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if the next notice Cruz sends out says, If you don’t vote, you’re going to hell.
Oh, Dear, what part of his brain thought THIS was a good idea?
Cruz’s campaign manager confirmed this came from Cruz.
If you truly support Cruz — and I think you do — you shouldn’t be defending this Stalinist tactic, you should be demanding that the idiots who thought of it and carried it out be fired from the campaign right now.
You've been here long enough to know that you should read through threads like this before commenting.
It's real.
I’m for Trump but I always thought Cruz would be great as Attorney General or Supreme Court Justice. I don’t anymore.
Just like Mark Levin, they Cruz supporters use any rationalization to justify Cruz and excuse his behavior. Be it questionable votes, debate performances, are crap like this. They see the writing on the wall and are getting desperate. It really is tiresome. And when Ted has to bow out, don’t expect the attacks to wane. They would rather lose to ensure their “purity’.
The campaign admitted they did it. Whoever thought this was a good idea should be fired.
Cruz has at least 30% more official endorsements from politicians than public figures than Trump last I checked.
"Nobody likes him" is just a BS Trump meme, more of his unpresidential insults and bullying.
Now, do RINOs in D.C. not like him? Hell, no, they don't like him. They only love other crony capitalists and RINOs, not the guy who has been trying to take away their power over the country from day one.
I think you are right. Team Cruz uses data mining (another thing I hate) to put together a list of likely conservative voters. Then Team Cruz cross references that list with public voting records to see if they are regular voters. If the potential Cruz voter is not a regular voter Team Cruz sends them a shamming letter. This was likely a test to see how well the tactic works. I still find it offensive and I certainly hope it blows up in Team Cruzs’ face.
While I do not doubt that Trump will have something to say about this, if this story is factual, and I have to assume that it is at this point, Ted Cruz put the CREEP label on himself.
I mean seriously, if someone came to mu door and told me that they were going to tell my neighbors about how I vote or don’t vote, I would punch them in the face.
More than once.
This looks like Ted Cruz threatening people by ratting them out to their neighbors for something he perceives will cause them some negative consequence if the neighbors knew.
It’s friggin’ vote blackmail.
Transparency in voting?
Yeah, knowing your neighbors caucusing record and being intimidaTED is real tranparent.
Yikes.
Cruz sent me - no actually it was signed by his wife Heidi - a rather patronizing fundraising letter with this same tone a month or so past. I was offended by it and felt their “proprietary target marketing technology” must have indicated I was some idiot.
It included lessons in basic arithmetic and an assurance that if I donated in 24 hours Heidi would personally write my name on a “special” list to show to Ted. (Gosh, what a thrill.)
