Donald Trump throws a grand old party
CNN ^

Posted on 01/28/2016 11:26:07 PM PST by TigerClaws

No one ever really doubted that Donald Trump could pull off a major counter-programing feat -- even when competing with a GOP debate that was expected to draw millions of viewers.

He did it Thursday night, dazzling a crowd of hundreds of enthusiastic supporters by announcing that he had raised more than $6 million for veterans in one day -- $1 million of it from his own checkbook. "We love our vets," he said.

I’m surprised he didn’t do it for, “the women and children”.

The total number of votes now is roughly equal to the entire membership of FR (350,000) there abouts.

If this number of FReepers is even half way correct then there are more FReeRIDERS lurking and posting here without sending in a single dime.

I've been posting and donating for over ten years and lurking for even more, but the first time I posted I knew I owed Jim Robinson financial support.

How can anyone post and not send in a few bucks. If every one gave a lousy single buck, the entire years budget would be completed in January.

Jim, charge a couple of bucks to post and eliminate some of these Freepathons.

There, I've said it yet again, just can't he'p myself.

Limbaugh’s substantial gut was apparently wrong on this one.

Wonder if he’ll acknowledge that today.

I don’t believe the community organizer in the White Hut could have pulled this off in 48 days, let alone 48 hours, do you?

“dazzling a crowd of hundreds of enthusiastic supporters”

Hundreds? Really? There were 700+ in the room, but thousands outdoors watching on Jumbotrons. Then hundreds of thousands (millions?) watching on TV or computer.

CNN still in falsifying and sabotaging mode.

He makes a point of not being a New Yorker and not broadcasting from there. There is a network connection through New York but since Rush saves tens of millions in NY and NYC taxes, he is pretty particular about it.

“The veterans who spoke were terrific.”

Wish I could have heard them. The CNN coverage was terrible. Any time Trump let someone speak the moron CNN anchors and guests would mute the speaker and talk about whether or not Trump’s plan was backfiring.

And anytime he was about to make a good point, or talk about proposed policy, they’d also cut away, claiming he was just going into “his standard stump speech”.

Very biased, of course, but having not watched CNN for over 10 years, I was astounded at how blatant their bias was.

Of course all their panelists agreed the event was a failure for Trump, because:

- He didn’t get Fox to drop Megan Kelly from the moderator panel
- The veterans “groups” were refusing his money (the super liberal one was quoted)

His transmission goes from WPB to NY and is broadcast from WABC

His studio is still in Florida. He very rarely does a full NY site-based show because they will tax his earnings for that day. He’s said it before.

When I saw CNN was going to be talking over all the speakers. I switched the channel to C-span. They carried it “live” with no interruptions.

His signal is broadcast from NY.
It originates in a studio in Fl and hits the airways out of NY.
My only point.
I don’t care where he physically sits

In the end, we’re discussing something that really doesn’t matter. He really never wants to be physically present in NY to do the show because NYS will rape him for it.

Great interchange. Thanks.

1) I'm glad Trump put a million of his own loot for a good cause and talked his rich buddies out of a few more millions.

2) I'm glad Trump made it easier for average folks to support these worthy vet causes. They could have gotten gifts there on their own, but the Trump Foundation infrastructure simplified things, an 'in kind' gift from the Donald.

3) I presume, in due time, Trump will provide some kind of accounting as to how much has been passed along to the 22 worthy targets of this event. He's smart enough to collect the easy publicity from releasing that information. And he's smart enough to use it to counter the meme some in the media have put out that he doesn't do much for charities in general and veterans' charities in particular. Given the size it will will take awhile compile the information, although I hope it will be expedited like the rest of the event.

4) However, the meme that this was all accomplished in 24-48 hours may not be completely true, although making it look so is marketing gold. We know when Trump told FOX and the public he wouldn't be debating and shortly thereafter when he announced the event. But do we know whether he decided to do that some time earlier, told his staff and had them start the planning? A fair amount could have been done without letting anyone outside his staff know. And even without him specifically telling anyone, ahead of this time, he'd publicly threatened debate boycotts in the past. His excellent staff might have developed contingency plans in case he really did it some day. He's been big for vets all campaign so they might have even anticipated an event for them. Very well marketed in any case, could have been done in the advertised time, but I bet some of the planning was done in advance either directly per Trump or as contingency planning.

Great points and I’ll bet you’re right on the 3rd one. If so it doesn’t damage the idea that he’s built an efficient organization at all, does it.
