Fox News released a brutal statement Tuesday reacting to the announcement from the Donald Trump campaign that he would be bowing out of the next Republican presidential debate.
"As many of our viewers know, FOX News is hosting a sanctioned debate in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday night, three days before the first votes of the 2016 election are cast in the Iowa Caucus. Donald Trump is refusing to debate seven of his fellow presidential candidates on stage that night, which is near unprecedented," the statement read.
The network accused the campaign of leveling terroristic threats against debate moderator and Fox News host Megyn Kelly.
"We're not sure how Iowans are going to feel about him walking away from them at the last minute, but it should be clear to the American public by now that this is rooted in one thing - Megyn Kelly, whom he has viciously attacked since August and has now spent four days demanding be removed from the debate stage. Capitulating to politicians' ultimatums about a debate moderator violates all journalistic standards, as do threats, including the one leveled by Trump's campaign manager Corey Lewandowski toward Megyn Kelly.
"In a call on Saturday with a FOX News executive, Lewandowski stated that Megyn had a 'rough couple of days after that last debate' and he 'would hate to have her go through that again.' Lewandowski was warned not to level any more threats, but he continued to do so. We can't give in to terrorizations toward any of our employees," the statement continued.
But even with all of that, the network said it would still allow the current Republican presidential front-runner to attend the debate.

As another poster said above, I'm forced to agree with Trump, but not his methods. (Is this what he will do when Iran accuses him of "terrorism", etc?)
“terroristic threats”?! Fox, you jumped the shark. You’re fired!
FOXX has obviously seen Greta’s poll results ...
ABSOLUTELY!
They are scum. They are dishonest. (both Trump observations.)
Thanks Joe nails it.
That sucks, dido United Way, not sure about Red Cross.
To use a perhaps inexact metaphor, the immediate goal is to get on base, not necessarily to score a home run. Sometimes it's best to go for the walk instead of swing for the fences. Once on base, you have more tools at your disposal to work the opposition.
If Trump wins the election, he'll have the power of the White House to negotiate with Congress, or Putin, or anyone else. For now, he only has his gravitas (and $10 billion, of course).

I’m also not sure how this is a winning move for Trump. Those who love it when he sticks it to the media are already solidly in his camp. He gains none of them. Undecided or those whose support for him is “possible o probable” can easily be turned off by the “my way or I walk” attitude. And if he comes back, even donating to charity to “buy” his way back in, can also easily be seen as a weak move, as if he actually realizes that he screwed up and needs the last debate before the real voting begins... a wise candidate should know that already.
Prove it.
Yet again, Trump is playing the tune everyone is dancing to.
GREAT IDEA!! Especially since Wounded Warriors spends MILLIONS on ADS at FOX!!! My gosh, they are every other ad
on FOX! That’s why stopped giving to WW because they were spending so damned much money on ads.
Yes indeed, great point. Not interested in allowing newscasters change the outcome of elections because of their bias.
Do you think watching those invited agitators heckle our candidates under the smirk of the FNC “ moderators” is a good use of your time? How about just handing them the mic? Gonna help you decide who to vote for?
I say let the JV team step up. Trump has already dealt with hecklers at several of his rallies. Let’s give Jeb a turn.
Yer all class, toad.
Off topic but...it might be a good idea to see who owns the ad agency WW uses, and if there are any conflicts of interest.
If anyone had doubts about how Trump is doing with his campaign, the fear and attention to this story by FNC should be reassuring.
This version of the story has been editorialized for effect
“Yer all class, toad.”
She posed for it. I’m not the bimbo in do-me pumps trying to look sexy while calling myself a “serious journalist”.
More like jumped the skank.
The media should have NO SAY what so ever in who moderates our primary debates .... The press should have NOTHING to do with the process besides showing up with their cameras to cover it.

Totally agree .... it absolutely pi$$es me off when I see the line of Repub candidates walking out on the stage like sheep to slaughter with biased media moderators lying in wait with gotcha’ questions, snarky comments & trying to provoke cage matches either between candidates or make themselves the news & garner notoriety as Kelly has done. After the Candy Crowley debacle, you’d think SOMEBODY at the RNC & future Repub candidates would have learned something and applied it to future elections. FOX is demonstrably not “fair & unbiased” and I am glad SOMEBODY had the guts to say ‘enough is enough’. Good for Trump ... not so good for the rest of the ‘go along to get along crowd’. ‘Go along to get along’ is not a trait I want in the next president - Repubs have been doing that the last 7 years & American is paying the crippling price.
