Yeah I know, heard all this before. All brand new ideas that only Trump thought of.

Trump is definitely not concerned with “social issues” so you are correct there.

Looks like the rest of us might pay for that.

“Doesn’t want to take risks” perfectly exemplifies both liberals and a lot of conservatives. Group think and insurance against every possibility of harm from cradle to grave was never the American way until the Dems brain washed our citizens.

So I guess Trump is the only “smart” conservative because he knew early on that Obama would hand it over to Iran.

So was he smart enough to know that there were no WMDs in Iraq? And if he thought there might be a few around, was he willing to risk Iraq handing them over to terrorists?
After all a smart Military loving guy would stay out of Iraq no matter what (because he is smart)
And early on he thought Obama was going to be a great President even though Obama promised (the very first thing) to sit down Gitmo.

Now he isn’t too happy with Obama but does Trump still admire his stance on Gitmo?

Does anyone here really listen to what this guy says?

So he’s not a Conservative but no matter, Trump supporters care about the art of the deal, not principles.

I wouldn’t go that far.

Bill Kristol considers himself a conservative. In my opinion, he’s part of the problem.

The National Review’s Yuval Levin considers himself conservative. He was on W’s staff. I really don’t care to hear what he has to say.

W considers himself a conservative. I wouldn’t want him again.

Mitch McConnell would tell you he’s conservative. I wouldn’t say that about him.

G.H.W. Bush played up a conservative image but I wouldn’t consider him conservative.

Some people think Fox News is conservative. I don’t.

I am not sure if I am going to support Cruz or Trump but there seems to be a lot of definitions of conservative.

There are fiscal and social issues. One can be conservative on one but not the other. Trump has stated his position on several social issues and I would consider most of his stated positions to be conservative. I cannot think of any social issues where he’s come out as liberal.

Is Trump my perfect candidate, no. But none of the other guys are either.

“Freedom is risky.”

So you buy into “his” definition of conservatism?

If so, you’re on the wrong forum.

Smaller government in terms of spending and less regulations.

‘IS’

I would agree with all of those but as a Conservative, you know and I know that they are not despite how much they say they are so it's easy to deflect.

“There are fiscal and social issues. One can be conservative on one but not the other.” Sorry friend, you can't be Conservative and pick and choose issues like condiments at a salad bar.

The movement was defined by Goldwater and promoted by Reagan. At no point can you trade abortion for fiscal policy or amnesty for a strong military.

No one can ever be perfect, but when you trade principles for victory, you get neither.

That said, I'll vote for Trump if he gets the nod......but not before. He's not a Conservative and hasn't been one prior to June of last year.

When has Trump talked about balancing the budget?

Cutting out waste and abuse is something every single politician talks about doing. Easy to say, difficult to do. But if it can be done, any Republican is going to do it.

If you’re not concerned with stopping abortion, stopping same-sex marriage, protecting religious liberty and restoring school prayer then you’re definitely not my kind of conservative. And no matter what Trump says, I’ll go with the candidate who I’m SURE agrees with me on that. Without restoring traditional religion and morality, the whole country and the economy will continue going to hell. All modern countries are collapsing because of low birth rates. That creates a huge demand for immigrants to come in from both business and the government because an aging population not replacing itself with younger people is a recipe for economic disaster. There isn’t enough labor and there isn’t enough of a tax-base to fund entitlements. And that is why Trump quickly added on that he will expedite the return of the “good” illegals.

As far as trade deals, that’s a joke of an issue. Trump’s been railing on about it since the ‘80s like a broken record. Trading with other countries has been going on since we first had the ability to travel and it is a wonderfully beneficial thing for our country. We have an absolute abundance of affordable food and consumer goods in this country. That is what trade gives us.

“Trump wants to be popular”

He most certainly does. That may be just as easily be the key to his downfall as the key to his success.

Is Donald Trump able to carry on a coherent dissertation? This man rambles and wanders and, yet, the masses are mesmerized.

I guess it’s just me...

That’s almost as lucid and coherent as my mother-in-law was at 95.

She used to talk a lot about picking blueberries in the woods.

A conservative investor does not like risk and goes for safer, but less lucrative returns.

Conservative can mean many things.

Trump may not be philosophically conservative, but he is phliosophically American.

After what we have experienced these last two years, I’m not surprised at the response.

People want the illegal alien inundation stopped and Trump made that his signature issue. Nobody else wanted to talk about deportation.
The elected only talked about accomodating those breaking the laws.

The definition of conservative isn’t defined by who labels themselves with that term. Here’s a simple definition. Look at all of Obama’s and Sanders’ positions. Take the opposite position to find what’s conservative.

I agree, there are some gray areas, like the NSA spying, where both the far-left and far-right oppose it and moderates seem okay with it. But most issues are much clearer than that.

Romney flip-flopped on abortion a few years before running for president and no one trusted him. So why would people trust Trump on that? Trump let a transsexual into his beauty pageant after briefly opposing it then capitulating. He told Stern he opposed same-sex marriage but that he could change his mind. Trump also cheated on his first wife and bragged in his 2007 book that he bedded married women. Religion and morality goes beyond just those core issues. Those are where you look for the first signs of someone’s moral character. But we need moral character backing every decision a President makes.
