Sunday on CBS's "Face the Nation," Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump gave his definition of a conservative.
Partial transcript s follows:
DICKERSON: "What is your definition of conservative?"
TRUMP: "Well, I think it's a person that doesn't want to take risks.

Wow, his definition of conservative is balanced budgets and supporting the military. He completely missed all of the social issues or any sense of smaller government or Constitutionalism.
Sorry. Incoherent.

So....this is him completely admitting he’s not conservative.
Never once did he define conservatism as he never uttered smaller, less intrusive government to prevent infringement of liberty.
So he's not a Conservative but no matter, Trump supporters care about the art of the deal, not principles.
He takes flagrantly contradictory positions:
He says take the oil and the Iraq war was wrong.
Pretending that Obama’s withdrawal from Iraq is the same as supporting the war in Iraq is painfully disingenuous.
In order to “take the oil” we would have to have a credible and strong military presence— beyond the 14,000 troops currently deployed in our “withdrawal” from iraq.
The Donald is allowed to take contradictory positions because his followers refuse to follow reason.
I think I will support Trump over Hillary if that is all that is available, but I would love to have Cruz waiting tor run against Trump in 2020 once it is clear that he is a liberal authoritarian who hates conservatives.
I don’t believe trump at all but I can tell from these threads that facts don’t matter. People are mad and they are going to vote for what they think sends the ‘craziest’ signal.
I think we could have stayed in Iraq— just as we stay in Korea— stay in Japan— in order to win and prove that Islamic supremacism is as bad as communism or any other violent ideology the world has to offer.
I still think Cruz can win— especially in Iowa and South Carolina— but it is frustrating how unmoved trump supporters are to his clear anti-conservative positions.
A person that wants to in terms of government I'm talking about.
As he often does, he rambles. If Donald is a deep thinker about Constitutional issues, he hides it well.
I possibly misread it as the conversation is very difficult to make out but I thought he was saying conservatives don’t like to take risks but he’s a big risk taker.
Welfare recipients don’t want to take risks.
Freedom is risky.
New York values?
He’s a New York conservative. I can’t make sense of why some of the same people who vigorously opposed Giuliani are wholeheartedly supporting Trump, who is probably the closest candidate to Giuliani in terms of his values and politics we’ve had since then. They’re tough-talking, national security guys who treated their first wives’ badly and exhibited no particular interest in religious or moral issues. You can take the politician out of New York but you can’t take New York out of the politician.
Everyone’s definition of conservatism is different.
I’m view myself as a conservative, because I want to conserve America, her Constitution, and the freedom of her people.
Pretty simple definition.

Trump supporters are concerned with building a wall, closing the borders, bringing back jobs to America,deporting illegal aliens, balancing the budget, cutting out theft and waste, and getting America out of destructive Trade deals which profit all except America. That is a pretty loaded platter and Trump is saying all of these things. He is ALSO strongly in favor of strengthening our military which is in the saddest shape since before WW II thanks to the present administration.
I am not concerned with “social issues” other than eliminating P.C. I doubt Trump is either.
Here is an idea: make the entire metropolitan area of NYC a new federal district, say District of Hudson. . . .
For Trump supporters, it seems to be either “deport them all, build a wall” that wins them over or his perceived anti-PC-ness. But the “deport them all” loses its uniqueness once Donald added in that he’ll expedite letting the “good ones” back in legally afterwards. Every Republican immigration plan has always had the same elements of letting some number of the current illegals stay under some status. Trump adds in going out and in the revolving door, but in the end, “what difference does it make?”
PC is a terrible blight on our culture, and I do like Trump’s willingness to say he’d ban all Muslims to keep the bad ones out. But on the other hand, when a transsexual wanted to get into his beauty pageant he at first said no, and then a few days later let “her” in. He also told Stern years ago he opposed same-sex marriage, but that he could change his mind. Trump wants to be popular. When the media pushes back on him, he’s likely to fold to pressure. He wants to be popular with primary voters now, but it’s likely he’ll poll-test in the general election and adjust his positions to make him popular with the general election voters. That’s what happens when someone doesn’t have core values that they’re committed to. And since the push of the media and the loudest parts of the culture are always moving to the left, that’s where a President who puts his finger in the wind will go.
