So he’s not a Conservative but no matter, Trump supporters care about the art of the deal, not principles.

I wouldn’t go that far.
Bill Kristol considers himself a conservative. In my opinion, he’s part of the problem.
The National Review’s Yuval Levin considers himself conservative. He was on W’s staff. I really don’t care to hear what he has to say.
W considers himself a conservative. I wouldn’t want him again.
Mitch McConnell would tell you he’s conservative. I wouldn’t say that about him.
G.H.W. Bush played up a conservative image but I wouldn’t consider him conservative.
Some people think Fox News is conservative. I don’t.

I am not sure if I am going to support Cruz or Trump but there seems to be a lot of definitions of conservative.
There are fiscal and social issues. One can be conservative on one but not the other. Trump has stated his position on several social issues and I would consider most of his stated positions to be conservative. I cannot think of any social issues where he’s come out as liberal.
Is Trump my perfect candidate, no. But none of the other guys are either.
“There are fiscal and social issues. One can be conservative on one but not the other.” Sorry friend, you can't be Conservative and pick and choose issues like condiments at a salad bar.
The movement was defined by Goldwater and promoted by Reagan. At no point can you trade abortion for fiscal policy or amnesty for a strong military.
No one can ever be perfect, but when you trade principles for victory, you get neither.
That said, I'll vote for Trump if he gets the nod......but not before. He's not a Conservative and hasn't been one prior to June of last year.
The definition of conservative isn’t defined by who labels themselves with that term. Here’s a simple definition. Look at all of Obama’s and Sanders’ positions. Take the opposite position to find what’s conservative.
I agree, there are some gray areas, like the NSA spying, where both the far-left and far-right oppose it and moderates seem okay with it. But most issues are much clearer than that.
Romney flip-flopped on abortion a few years before running for president and no one trusted him. So why would people trust Trump on that? Trump let a transsexual into his beauty pageant after briefly opposing it then capitulating. He told Stern he opposed same-sex marriage but that he could change his mind. Trump also cheated on his first wife and bragged in his 2007 book that he bedded married women. Religion and morality goes beyond just those core issues. Those are where you look for the first signs of someone’s moral character. But we need moral character backing every decision a President makes.
Exactly! No one else is either!
