The definition of conservative isn’t defined by who labels themselves with that term. Here’s a simple definition. Look at all of Obama’s and Sanders’ positions. Take the opposite position to find what’s conservative.
I agree, there are some gray areas, like the NSA spying, where both the far-left and far-right oppose it and moderates seem okay with it. But most issues are much clearer than that.
Romney flip-flopped on abortion a few years before running for president and no one trusted him. So why would people trust Trump on that? Trump let a transsexual into his beauty pageant after briefly opposing it then capitulating. He told Stern he opposed same-sex marriage but that he could change his mind. Trump also cheated on his first wife and bragged in his 2007 book that he bedded married women. Religion and morality goes beyond just those core issues. Those are where you look for the first signs of someone’s moral character. But we need moral character backing every decision a President makes.

Good point.
You’ve made the best case yet.
People can change. There usually is something significant to make people change. Like one’s faith going from unbeliever to believer. That can certainly make a difference.
I believe Trump has changed from the person he was. Has he changed enough? I don’t know. I’ll have to admit that I am not overly impressed with his knowledge concerning faith issues.
