In an earlier piece -- which I strongly urge you to read -- I expanded on certain factors evident in the Trump phenomenon. Trump is
And as I wrote, "[W]hen you have a hero, leading the troops in the heat of battle against a despised oppressor, you don't worry about his marriages, past ideological indiscretions or salty language. You charge right behind him." This is largely why Trump's contradictions don't matter. Yet more can be said.
*snip*
Trump has been criticized for speaking in vague generalities and not providing specifics on the campaign trail. This misses the point. If advertising a product on TV, do you willingly provide mundane details about its ingredients or describe the intricacies of its manufacturing process? That's more the stuff of documentaries, and, insofar as the vendor goes, would only be found on an Internet product-information page (tantamount to a politician's policy-position page) provided for those interested.

“Be honest people: After 8 years of Obumbles can it REALLY get any worse?”
Yes. Bernie Sanders!
Could be worse.....could be raining.
Much of it is “colored” film made by Germany, Japan, Russia, Italy and the allies during World War II. Having the Axis films added to the Allies film gave me an understanding that I never knew from watching just the allies film.
I grew up during World War II one mile from a “practice bombing field” for B17’s.
We had Army people coming by on the road all the time who were building practice structures on the field.
Roman imperial history is inherently biased and not necessarily very accurate.
The early months of Caligula's reign actually were pretty universally praised - and then his popularity cratered. There are two basic theories for what happened:
Caligula went mad and did every depraved thing he was accused of.
The patricians realized that Caligula was actually going to extend the power of the emperor even further than his predecessor, Tiberius, had and turned on him with a vengeance.
Again, remember, the history of Caligula's reign was mostly written by the descendants of the people who plotted to assassinate him - so of course they weren't about to make him look good.
Any Freeper throwing Hitlers name out there loses ALL credibility instantly maybe you need to tone it downs a little!!!
Can I use "Schicklgruber" then?
Sure be my guest, but come on throwing out the name Hitler does sound a little hysterical!!! We have social media now a Hitler second coming would be impossible I would hope!!!
I agree with the ‘have you ever worked for a poor person?’ argument. And I have been in business, myself.
My reference to ‘ridiculous profits’ was regarding food prices- third world production jacked up for the American market. They pay pennies on the several dollars. Now, they’re selling crap for 2 or 3 times what it used to cost.
If I may address an area I know more about than oil or food production. Women’s clothing. Or clothing in general. Let’s say a blouse, made in the third world. probably costs, at most, $25 to make (including the designer, spread out over several thousand items). Neiman Marcus sells it for $300 or $400. Isn’t that a little much? The shareholders would not have wound up ‘’poor’’ or ‘’lost money’’ had the item been sold for $200 or even $150. It’s just greed.
Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. AND Unintended consequences.
Too bad their mommies never told them the story about The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg when they were little. Cause you know what? The goose ain’t looking so good.
What will they have when their remaining customers can no longer sustain them in the style to which they’ve become accustomed? This is real life.
Economic theories & ideologies are all well & good, but when they fail in real life- when people go too far & take things to an unreasonable extreme. . . (shrug) It *sounds* good. On paper.
I confess I don’t have much sympathy for oil companies.
Welcome to our world. As we’ve had to cut back & do without & run up painful credit card debt- just so we could pay for the gas we had to use in the course of our jobs, our economy lost big time. It’s not because people were ‘’living beyond their means’’, either. Some of us were well beneath our means when all this started last decade.
They’ll live through it too. Or at least learn to live with it. Sorry.
That complete nonsense. Hitler was a major historical figure, and there is much to be learned from the Nazi movement by people who are genuinely interested in human freedom.
This will be the first joyful vote I have cast since I voted for Ronnie. Go Trump. :-)
You do realize that the oil company makes like 5 cents a gallon. What is the tax on a gallon? 23 cents federal + state taxes.
Not trying to be argumentative but I do believe in the capitalistic system.
I believe in it, too.
Your wife doesn’t shop at Neiman’s, does she? The lower end stores will mark down. Even Nordstrom & Bloomingdales will, eventually. The high end retailers take years unless it’s ‘’special purchase’’. I’m not talking about the $200 range. To me, that’s still reasonable.
I don’t know where the marketing would be. They do waste a lot of money sending out duplicate catalogues with different covers, though. They’re not in Vogue. I don’t know, but I can’t imagine them on tv.
Who told you that about oil companies? That’s positively ludicrous. There’s no question that it’s an expensive business to be in (which is WHY it’s ludicrous), but my point is that the pursuit of ever escalating profit has climbed beyond all bounds of reason. It’s true in pretty much everything nowdays. What’s wrong with US that we’ve accepted this? Ya can’t blame a guy for tryin, but we’re saps. The trouble with necessities- like energy, safety, food & medical care is that we’re CAPTIVE. The problem is not that there should be some kind of arbitrary ‘’limit’’ on these things. There shouldn’t be. The problem is that people have lost their morality/ ethics & devolved into predation.
I’m not either. I’m just saying that when people lose their heads, bad things often happen. There’s no rational ground between commies & I’m not sure what to call the extreme opposite. We’re fixin to pay for our folly. All of us.
The biggest problem Cruz has right now is Glenn Beck. WTF was he thinking?
Albatross around the neck.
i know what you mean - being called an idiot, stupid, failure, bloated fool, etc - is enough to drive one mad. Makes you wonder about the mentality of those calling all those names...
