The Voters' Trump Love Affair Explained in Terms Even Beltway Pundits Can Understand

In an earlier piece -- which I strongly urge you to read -- I expanded on certain factors evident in the Trump phenomenon. Trump is

And as I wrote, "[W]hen you have a hero, leading the troops in the heat of battle against a despised oppressor, you don't worry about his marriages, past ideological indiscretions or salty language. You charge right behind him." This is largely why Trump's contradictions don't matter. Yet more can be said.

*snip*

Trump has been criticized for speaking in vague generalities and not providing specifics on the campaign trail. This misses the point. If advertising a product on TV, do you willingly provide mundane details about its ingredients or describe the intricacies of its manufacturing process? That's more the stuff of documentaries, and, insofar as the vendor goes, would only be found on an Internet product-information page (tantamount to a politician's policy-position page) provided for those interested.

I’ve grown to enjoy the threads where Cruznadians call everyone who isn’t for their guy an idiot and a brownshirt and a liberal.

I’m going to give a quick speech under my breath in my voting booth and dedicate my Trump primary ballot to them. :D

It's true that Trump is a gamble, an unpredictable loose canon but he he represents a major push back to destructive trends that have castrated this country.

People want change but not Ovomit’s change. People want to restore America to her preminent position. It's not clear that this huge endeavor can be done after 50 years of decline but most folks seem to think the attempt is worth it.

Trump is by far a wild card in US politics but he is INVIGORATING, entertaining and funny. We can only assume and pray that of he gets the nomination and if he gets elected he will indeed place the very best & brightest individuals in his cabinet to restore this nation.

Any attempt to compare him to Hitler is grossly unfair. He is the ONLY candidate bringing up unpleasant issues tucked away under the PC carpet for too long.

One thing we do know and that is, if Hilliary is elected the Republic will shudder and die.

We need to reverse course before it is too late.

Re>This is precisely how Hitler came to power

Germany was almost dead. One couldn't carry enough money to buy a loaf of bread. Hitler came to power and almost conquered the world. I am not endorsing Hilter in any way but stating a fact history will not do.

Likewise, playing on emotion is not the sole province of morally bad or good politicians - only of successful ones. Hitler did it and Churchill did it; Huey Long did it and Reagan did it.

I was a successful computer systems sales guy for over 40 years and I knew {as well as any good sales guy} that logic and data were usable tools, but real deals were closed via emotion. Every sales training teaches emotional appeal, not to the exclusion of logic and facts, but just to recognize that 'people buy from people' and that means emotion is paramount.

In today's environment, with so much social media and so little direct human contact, the 'like-ability' factor becomes even more important, and we get most of that exposure from external images {TV, facebook, utube, twitter etc}.

The big problem my guy Cruz has, is while he is very logical and has facts and reason on his side, Trump is loved by his followers.

This election has provided every possible option to any voter from socialist bernie to conservative Cruz, with every thing in between.

President Trump Cabinet

Gov. Greg Abbott as Vice President

Department of State, (return INS.) Newt Gingrich
Department of Justice, Rep. Steve King
Department of Treasury, (includes former Homeland Security - Customs) Carl Icahn (Offered and Accepted)
Department of War, (change the name back.) Include former VA function Gen. James Mattis
Department of Interior, (includes the legitimate functions only of former Dept. of Transportation, Dept. of Homeland Security - Border Patrol, and Energy Departments) Gov. Sarah Palin
Department of Labor and Commerce, Herman Cain

This proposed model has the President directly managing seven subordinates which is optimal.

Department of Education William J. Bennett in a Temporary position
as it will be ELIMINATED as proposed by The Donald, 9/23/15 at a Columbia, SC Town Hall with Sen. Tim Scott.
Department of Homeland Security ELIMINATE
Department of Energy ELIMINATE
Department of Health and Human Services ELIMINATE
Department of Housing and Urban Development ELIMINATE
Department of Veterans Affairs ELIMINATE
Department of Agriculture ELIMINATE
Department of Transportation ELIMINATE

On Fox news Sunday, 10/18/15 Trump said he would cut funding for EPA and Dept. of Ed.

In non-cabinet level jobs

Gen. Peter Pace as National Security Adviser
LTC Ralph Peters as Director of National Intelligence (NDI)
Sheriff Clarke should be FBI Director
Michelle Bachman as IRS Commissioner under Secretary Carl Icahn in Treasury
Admiral James A. Ace Lyons as Undersecretary of War Navy Branch.
LTC Allen West as Undersecretary of War Army Branch.
Lt. Gen. Tom McInerney as Undersecretary of War Air Force Branch.
Ted Nugent as Undersecretary of Interior
Lynnette Diamond Hardaway and Rochelle Silk Richardson would be great as President Trumps Co-Press Secretaries.

Marsha Blackburn, Speaker of the House
Ted Cruz as Senate Majority Leader.

“I often mention the fault of “mirroring,” which most everyone exhibits and is when you project your own ideals, values, priorities and mindset onto others.”

Very similar to the phenomona of when the likes of Danny Davito says that we are a country of racists.

There Ya go
Hitler was popular
Trump Is popular
Ergo Trump is Hitler

I wonder if these geniuses have any clue about the conditions suffered by Weimar Germany, the factors that led to WW1, the impact of WW1 on the Germans, the effect on Germany of the Treaty of Versailles, why for Germany WW2 was a continuation of WW1..... And now let's parallel all that to American politics and Donald Trump

Oh and Stalin and Mao and Ayatollah Khomeini were all popular
Maybe Trump is StalinMaoKhomeini too

Oh, and the establishment’s financial race to leap of a cliff is better? At this point I’ll go with a CEO who actually knows how to successfully run a multi billion dollar organization, and who shows no tendencies toward murderous ideologies.

Germany was almost dead. One couldn't carry enough money to buy a loaf of bread.

If memory serves, the hyperinflation was long since past by the time the Nazis came to power. That aside, you're not paying attention. The point was not that the time is ripe at present for such an eventuality, but that the circumstances are such that the seeds of autocracy can easily be sown by the election of a strong-willed, unprincipled populist like Trump. Obama and the Congress have in fact already begun the process, the former by circumventing the Constitution with impunity; the latter by passively sitting back and allowing him to do it.

Unprecedented and historic. Donald Trump deserves enormous respect and admiration for what he has accomplished.

Do not try to find a pigeon hole for him. He defies easy categorization.

And be sure to watch one of his live rally’s. Donald is evolving and maturing as a candidate.

Leader, Fighter, Winner! America First! President Donald Trump!

I believe a leader should set the Goals and Define measurable Objectives and leave the Strategies and Tactics to his well chosen Team leaders. Review the results and modify as necessary to obtain those objectives.

All the so called experts expect Trump to be a military expert and layout the battle plan for the Military Triad on TV while they watch and criticize. Sorry not his job and below his pay grade.

Excellent post. I agree 100%.

I can agree here.

Seems some purists will only accept the pastor of a church for a candidate. And it better be the ‘correct’ Christian denomination/church or it will won’t be good enough.

When you can’t respond with logic and reason, invoke Hitler.

Ah, but if you know anything about Hitler, invoking him is both logical and reasonable. If the sum total of your historical knowledge can be found in a cliche, too bad for you.

The Clintons started a campaign they called “The Third Way” somewhere around the end of 1998 early 1999 which was going to be Hillary’s campaign strategy for her run for president.

Communism on the left capitalism on the right, Third Way in the middle.

In this race B Sanders is the communist, T Cruz is the capitalist, and Hillary and Trump are the two “Third Way” candidates in the middle.

Trump’s support of Kelo is all you need to know to know Trump isn’t just a capitalist he’s what we now call a “crony capitalist” govt and business working together to the benefit of both.

Trump’s belief in government and business working together as partners to the benefit of both is “Third Way” same as Hillary surprise! surprise!

I’m not hearing him say burn it all down.

Which is why he interests me about as much Yeb and Walker do...

There are a few million of our self-proclaimed betters that could use a few minutes of a corrective meeting involving them, a rope, and the underutilized lamp posts in this nation. And a lot of the institutions that they own need some sprucing up with a few gas cans and a match.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of folks around here who can’t seem to grasp why people support Trump.

I know perfectly well why they support him, but that doesn't equate to my following along. I've always had an instinctive dislike of mobs. Perhaps it's because I'm a conservative. And I'm not like some innocent young girl who throws away her virginity on the first man who claims he loves her.

Remember when Alf was really popular? There were Alf lunch boxes, and Alf t-shirts, and Alf plush toys. Lots of people really LOVED Alf. The cover of all the magazines. His show was number one!

Then a few months later, everybody hated Alf. I mean people couldn't stand to look at him anymore and his voice was completely annoying.

Alf didn't change. He was still that same weird-haired orange fluff ball, but people slowly emerged from their bizarre mass hypnosis, where they were manipulated into thinking they actually liked Alf. Of course they didn't like Alf. Who could like Alf?
