National Review's publication of the collective anti-Donald Trump missives from 22 self-appointed conservative potentates has caused quite a stir in Republican circles.
The nationwide responses range from, "Wait, I thought National Review went out of business years ago," to "Ed Meese? Seriously?"
The Gang of 22 have officially become parodies of themselves. One would have to reach back to the days of Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew to lift an adequate quote to describe them.
"Nattering nabobs of negativism," "vicars of vacillation," "pusillanimous pussyfooters," "the decadent few," "ideological eunuchs," "the effete corps of impudent snobs," or "the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history" - take your pick, because they all apply about equally well to each and every one of them.
So clueless is the Gang of 22 they can't even see how they've stumbled right into the narrative Trump's been communicating so successfully for months. Just like the elected officials from both parties, the Gang of 22 has been GREAT at complaining about stuff, year, after year, after year.
But getting anything accomplished? Not so much.
Many of the Gang of 22 have been hanging around and chattering for decades, and some are active cogs in the Conservative Entertainment Complex, deriving their income by pandering to conservative anger while offering no real solutions.
Donald Trump represents a threat to these ineffectual poohbahs in the same way he represents a threat to do-nothing public officials.
Jealousy is also seriously at work here. Trump is inspiring and exciting a broad spectrum of the country like no member of the Gang of 22 ever has, or ever will.
In just seven months of campaigning, Trump already has more Americans listening to a Republican message than the entire Gang of 22 could muster over decades. Trump understands that before you can advance the ball, you have to convince people to take time from their busy lives to listen. No one on the GOP side since Ronald Reagan has accomplished that like Trump.
No one else has come close, and certainly no one from that "effete corps of impudent snobs" to which the National Review thinks we should defer.
The Gang of 22 had their chance. They've done a lot of bitching over the years, and it paid well for some.
But Americans care about results. They can plainly see that all of the empty talk from the Gang of 22 got us eight years of Barack Obama, and a loss in pretty much every conservative battle there was to lose.
At the same time when Americans look at Donald Trump's life they get a lot of assurance that here is finally a man who shares their focus on actually getting results. And Trump returns the respect by recognizing regular hard-working Americans are a lot smarter than any of the "ideological eunuchs" in all of their pontificating glory.
The "pusillanimous pussyfooters" love to nitpick Trump's words, but what voters are looking for this year is competence and accomplishment. Donald Trump has an actual record of delivering both in spades.
The Gang of 22 is right to be terrified. A President who could get things done would expose them as the irrelevant creatures they truly are.
It can't happen fast enough.
I like Ann Coulter's description; Girly men.
For those who are unaware, NR publishes fortnightly.
Perfectly put!!
The 22 NRO “conservatives” just want us back on the plantation. It’s almost like the way the Rats get their voters back in line.
Wait, it’s a Uniparty thing....
Those are some of the best idioms I have heard in years to discuss the republican wing of the Uniparty.
Or, you might just want to consider that Sowell is right. I have noticed that more than a few of my friends, relatives and acquaintances are abandoning Trump as they find out who he really is and what he really represents.
I am more encouraged about the outcome of this process than I have been in months. We might just get a real conservative President who will leave an enduring legacy behind. But we won’t get that with Trump.
All we get with Trump is a four-year Democrat placeholder.
That is one man’s view. How about the 65-75 percent who aren’t voting for Trump?
In 2008 Trump supported and campaigned for McCain.
How do you think he knows Sarah?
Sure enough, they've got a poll up where you can vote if you support Trump or not.
Of course, to actually submit your vote, you have to give them your email address so they can spam you.
Shameless.
Dan Scavino, Advisor to Trump, has posted the link to it. Trump is, of course, winning NRO's own poll against him. I'd like to voice my opinion, too, but not at the risk of giving those cs my email address.
It would be worse than being on Cruz's fundraising list.
We need somebody who gets it on the EXISTENTIAL issues (I’m betting the slovakian wife knows a thing or two about Islam) & will get enough crossovers from the unread masses to keep us from a total drop off the cliff.
Tomorrow is going to be lovely day for Ted and Hardy.
Pray America wakes
I watched four of these NRO yahoos on Megyn Kelly the other night and was absolutely stunned at the vapidness and duplicity of their attacks against Trump. Most repeated the mantra over and over again that conservationism was all about “principles and ideas”, but not a single time did they mention anything about ACTING to do anything with those “principles and ideas”.
Much of what they said was simply false or ridiculous, like one comment about Trump destroying “centuries” of conservative ideas and principles. Multiple times they indicated that Trump was unfit because he hadn’t spent decades “paying his dues” or “honing” his conservatism. They attacked Trump for positions held decades ago and at the same time dismissed that same issue regarding Reagan’s evolution. The most outrageous accusation was that Trump was a “strong man” who wanted the trains to run one time, and not-veiled-at-all reference equating Trump to Mussolini.
These people were truly pathetic and their absolute fear, panic, and hatred of Trump could be practically seen oozing out of very pore.
Clearly, these people are frightened that they and their ilk will become completely irrelevant when Trump is elected President. It was clear that they feared and loathed Trump FAR more than Hillary or any other Democrat. It was also clear that they are totally out of touch with the outrage in the GOP electorate as a consequence of the GOP elite winning both Congressional Houses and not doing a damn thing to stop any portion of Obama’s agenda.
This really looked like a last gasp by the old guard to put on a full court attack one last time before Trump actually starts winning primaries.
As far as I’m concerned these people are traitors and liars and don’t give a damn about conservatism or our country. They only care about themselves. Personally, I was completely outraged at how these people pretend like they are the great keepers of THE CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES and pretty much anyone who supports Trump is an uneducated yahoo.
Trump did not want to run for President. Romney would have been a decent manager. Instead we got four more years of fundamental transformation. Romney was not strong enough to TAKE it. Now there is Trump.
That issue came at a time Newt was rising in the Iowa and national polls, and had grasped the momentum through his confrontations with debate moderators. Newt was a risk. He had issues in his past.
Think back to 2012 and then think about how much better off we might be today if Newt had won that election. This is a pattern for National Review. It worked once, I guess they think it will work a second time.

He truly is the last man standing. He will never hand out soccer balls and teddy bears and speak Spanish.
Glad these 22 showed their hand - easier to identify the creeps.
Michael Medvid?
I hope these folks have no CCW permits. They won’t have any feet left.
Oh! Please! Give it up! Everyone, Cruz, JEB!, Ran Paul, Mike Huckabee, Carly, Chris, etc. are going to be on Donald Trump’s side after he wins! The smart ones are getting on board the Trump Train NOW! Aren’t you going to be on the Trump Train when it leaves the station? You are not going to be on Bernie’s Bus are you?? Inquiring Minds Want to Know!
“Trump understands that before you can advance the ball”
To advance the ball, the first requirement is that you not be on the other team. If you don’t know where the goal line is, you aren’t likely to cross it.
What indication has Trump given that he knows what a goal line is, let alone how to find it and how to move the ball in the RIGHT direction? If he is, to use Palin’s term, ‘going rogue to the left and right’, then how can he advance the country toward the right?
I see now that Glenn got a little too weird, Sarah had to distance him, and he unleashed. . . . hell.
