The publisher of the National Review said late Thursday that his publication had been disinvited from the Feb. 25 Houston debate after it published a special "Against Trump" issue.
Just got a call from top GOP official. @NRO disivinited from Houston debate on Feb. 25th becasue of #AgainstTrump. https://t.co/KrPECb1Mwz - Jack Fowler (@jackfowler) January 22, 2016 |
Jack Fowler wrote in an announcement that a "top official with the RNC" called to break the news to him.
"The reason: Our "Against Trump" editorial and symposium," he wrote. "We expected this was coming. Small price to pay for speaking the truth about The Donald."

The National Review published on Thursday night a scathing editorial and essays from 22 prominent conservative thought leaders opposing the candidacy of Republican frontrunner Donald Trump.
Trump later blasted the magazine in a series of tweets, calling a "dying" publication and contending it had "lost its way."
In a country with more than 300 million people, it is remarkable how obsessed the media have become with just one-Donald Trump. What is even more remarkable is that, after seven years of repeated disasters, both domestically and internationally, under a glib egomaniac in the White House, so many potential voters are turning to another glib egomaniac to be his successor.
No doubt much of the stampede of Republican voters toward Mr. Trump is based on their disgust with the Republican establishment. It is easy to understand why there would be pent-up resentments among Republican voters. But are elections held for the purpose of venting emotions?
No national leader ever aroused more fervent emotions than Adolf Hitler did in the 1930s. Watch some old newsreels of German crowds delirious with joy at the sight of him. The only things at all comparable in more recent times were the ecstatic crowds that greeted Barack Obama when he burst upon the political scene in 2008.
Elections, however, have far more lasting and far more serious-or even grim-consequences than emotional venting. The actual track record of crowd pleasers, whether Juan Perón in Argentina, Obama in America, or Hitler in Germany, is very sobering, if not painfully depressing.
After the disastrous nuclear deal with Iran, we are entering an era when people alive at this moment may live to see a day when American cities are left in radioactive ruins. We need all the wisdom, courage, and dedication in the next president - and his or her successors - to save us and our children from such a catastrophe.
A shoot-from-the-hip, bombastic showoff is the last thing we need or can afford.
- Thomas Sowell is a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University.
Wow!
Mr. Sowell completely shattered Godwin’s Law.
Cue the Thomas Sowell haters.
(Rush worships Thomas Sowell - wonder how he's going to spin this one.)
Let me guess: we will now hear all 22 never were really conservatives?
So even Dr. Sowell says Trump is Juan Peron because people like him. Cruz is all of a sudden the smartest, kindest, most moral man that ever lived because people don’t like him. Sowell needs to do better than that.
Trump v. Ray Lewis
Ray Lewis is an unmitigated thug and loudmouth.
Provided he will take us thru the playoffs and help us win the Super Bowl...we can let it slide.
Anyone who believes “they expected this,” is out of their minds. Rich Lowry snapped at Laura Ingraham this morning and refused to come on the air to discuss it with her. Phony bravado from the idiot publisher. He thought FOX would love this. He forgot that the RNC is under the microscope from the voters and probably went into meltdown once they heard of the issue. Typical RINO insulation on the part of NR!
Why would I hate the wonderful Sowell? I still miss his appearance on Rush when Walter Williams hosted.
It’s called a disagreement. I support Trump, Mr. Sowell does not. Big frikkin’ deal!
Will they ever realize we can think and choose for ourselves? I do NOT need to be spoon-fed who I should support!
Write the wrong thing, get disinvited from a presidential nominee debate. Welcome to The New America. No doubt some will cheer.
Typical inside the beltway arrogance. We don’t need their advice. FWIW,, I am not a Trump supporter. Last cycle I Caucused for Santorum,, and I’m still undecided... Waivering between Rubio and Carly.
The point is that for some reason, Republicans (and moderates and Democrats) are looking past his liberalism, his crassness, his obvious personal flaws, etc... because he is new and shiny and exciting.
If they would step back and see the man as the deeply flawed candidate that he is they would see why they are wrong.
Rush will find a way or he’ll ignore it.
When was the last time National Review selected a winning candidate?
Conservative? Meaning what exactly?
LOL, Trump is loving this, it plays right into his wheelhouse.
The more the establishment whines, the stronger Trump gets.
But Haters gotta hate, so expect the establishment to keep doing what they’re doing. What a bunch of losers.
Thomas Sowell, with brilliant brevity, well makes his case. He’s right.
Trump hasn’t been part of the eGOP “scene” in DC and those that have spent their entire lives climbing the social ladder in the eGOP are scared they won’t retain their positions if Trump wins. Period. THAT is why they oppose Trump.
Sowell is just fearful that he won’t be invited to play the eGOP reindeer games anymore.
