Donald Trump said Tuesday that federal regulators should increase the amount of ethanol blended into the nationâs gasoline supply.
Speaking at an event hosted by the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, Trump, a real estate mogul and the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, said the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ought to follow the ethanol volumes Congress set in 2007.
âThe EPA should ensure that biofuel ... blend levels match the statutory level set by Congress under the [renewable fuel standard],â Trump said. The mandate is popular in Iowa, which hosts the nation's first caucuses.

Biofuels are a dead end, and only remotely would only make good sense if the world suffered some apocalyptic collapse, in which it was impossible to transport other fuels to the site where the raw materials for biofuels may be much more plentiful.
Whale oil, once widely used for lamps, was a biofuel on which the limitations quickly became apparent, as the whales got hunted very nearly to extinction. Sort of renewable, if the crop were only carefully nurtured.
Biofuels make a serious distortion of any ecosystem, including the cultivation of maize for its potential as a fuel source. And in the end it is pretty much a wash so far as the energy recovered versus the fossil fuel consumed in its production. Ethanol, particularly, only provides a “feel-good” for persons with selective blindness to the effects their pet idea has on the environment as a whole.
Recycling cooking oil as a Diesel fuel substitute makes a LITTLE more sense, in that a product that would have been discarded is put to one last useful purpose, but even that involves somewhat more than just pouring it straight from the collection vats into the fuel tank of a Diesel-powered vehicle. Plant source oils are notorious for forming up into polymers that clog fuel lines and foul injector needles.
Hey I love ethanol! Especially in my liver! ;)
That is a distinction without a difference. He didn't call for increasing the amount specified in the law, but he did call for increasing the amount they have actually been using. EPA had waived the provision requiring more ethanol be blended into the gas - Trump said they should be required to use the statutory (higher) amounts, and that Congress should not change the RFS.
Ethanol is very bad not only for the ‘sacred environment,’ but takes more energy to produce than it generates, and raises fuel consumption 10-20 percent while raising the price it costs to blend (and the price you pay at the pump), all the while tearing your engine apart.
Saving ‘grace’: farmers get more money for ethanol corn than for food corn. That’s it.
I’ve been praying that the “ real Donald Trump” would now stand up...
Thank you God.. Prayers are starting to be answered..
Wait until he lets some remark slip about his relationships currently with the Clintons....hope that is before the Primaries.
"We should not be ashamed of Christ. We should be willing to speak the truth with a smile."
If Cruz were pandering, he would keep his religious views closer to his vest in NH.
Trump will do/say anything to win, including quoting "TWO Corinthians" at Liberty University. Pandering at its finest.
Trump believes in winning. He will say, do and deal whatever to win and beat opponents. To Donald Trump winning trumps idealogy.
Keep that stuff out of cars. It’s terrible. Sell it as cheap vodka to the Russians instead.
yep, pandering. Nothing but an artificial subsidy.
all we know about him is he wants to send illegals back!! That’s about ALL.....
Exactly what is Ted promising to church people to get their votes, other than to continue to support the policies and principles he has always supported?
I hope Jesus knows how to stuff the ballot box because it isn’t looking too good for the Anointed One right now.
And you don’t think he’s pandering because you agree with him. That’s how it works.
Well, I don’t like it.
>> Biofuels are a dead end
IMHO biofuels are not economically viable right now, but have a place for those who want to be self-sufficient. In the fever swamps of my mind, I can see myself raising some soybeans and some switchgrass and screwing around with biofuels just for fun.
Bottom line, I have no inherent problem with making and using biofuels. I just don’t want the FedGov to force them on us. Let the marketplace decide!
oh PLEASE send this to Rush.. this would make the best montage and song.
Well there you go ! It's for the little (engine) guy !!
It’s quite odd I don’t see the nomad cast of Trumps liberal supporters here to defend his beliefs.
Quite odd I say.
EPA did follow the law. The law allows the EPA to waive the provision. Trump is saying that even though less gas was being produced, the gasoline producers should still be required to buy the higher amount of ethanol.
Feed your engine some ethanol, and it will love you for it.
