If I were Trump, I would have a team of experts make a list of every department and agency in existence in 1960. Then note those which have been added since then. All entities should have their budgets accounted for from inception through present day. Calculate year-to-year growth and chart.

Now that the table is set, decide which agencies, both old and new should be eliminated. Department of Education is an easy one since education should be at the State level. Whack Education. New EPA. Eliminate the EPA, and empower the states with environment issues. continue on...

This is easy and Trump will be all set to execute his plans with Congress in January 2017.

I would LOVE to have the backing of the fed when I’m voting “no” to spending in the school board meetings

Every agency which imposes their own regulations with the force of federal law should be eliminated. It is the job of legislatures to legislate, not unelected appointees of unaccountable agencies. That’s simply tyrannical. Example: Bureau of Land Management.

Who writes these titles? Slashing money for the federal Department of Education doesn't slash money for actually educating students. It slashes money that is used to impose federal rules and regulations on local school districts.

Slashing that money would actually free local districts and let them educate their students.

Since the POTUS does not have line item budget veto power, I'd like to know how he's going the slash the funding for the DOE and EPA in any meaningful manner...

We as conservatives bitch and moan about Obama unconstitutional spending without congressional approval..

I'm not disapproving his idea, just wondering if Freepers forgotten how all this works...

Funding is a Congressional mandate not the POTUS...

He's drawing the elitist academic types into coming out, frothing at the mouth, against him. Smart move.

The media can spin the money issue but Trump will beat on the local control aspect. That's a winning issue with a lot of independents and even democrats who are tired of having to pay taxes for government schools but have to find a way to send their kids to a private school if they want them to learn to read and write before they graduate high school.

That's going to swing both independents and democrats into his corner because even a majority of teachers in K-12 public schools know damn well that throwing money at unionized schools dictated to from afar is a dead end. You can see that in the number of teachers who instantly drop out of the union when a court says they can't be forced to pay dues to one.

I really believe a president, any president could “slash” funding for any and all departments by announcing at a cabinet meeting.

” I expect a proposal to reduce spending by 10% in the Dept. of *******, And I expect that proposal on my desk Monday morning.”

I can guarnaDAMNtee that ain’t gonna happen reguarless who is elected president.

And every Patriot sitting in that combined chamber should get up and walk out when they are introduced.

DOE and EPA need to be abolished. If they are not, and if most of the other Agencies are not abolished along with Civil Service than the course of the nation will not change. There will be a short period of growth and prosperity but the totalitarian bureaucratic state will still be in place and will soon enough reassert itself.

Department of education needs disbanded it is a failure at every level. Raised to a cabinet level by Carter I believe and since the US performance has done nothing but drop

This is one of the only identifiably conservative (as opposed to populist) positions I’ve seen from Trump.

Interesting.

Another reason he is gaining popularity - of course the ED dept and EPA should be defunded.

I trust Trump to do it right.

He will evaluate what those agencies are doing and quickly size up if they are adding value or not, or if it belongs at a more local level.
