Donald Trump Vows to Slash Funding for Education, EPA
Wall Street Journal via MSN ^ | 1/11/16 | Heather Haddon

MANCHESTER, N. H. - Republican Donald Trump on Monday said he would slash funding for the federal education department and Environmental Protection Agency if elected president.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal and New Hampshire's WMUR at a local diner here, the celebrity businessman said he would do "tremendous cutting" of the federal government if elected. Education policy, he said, should be returned to the states, and he said he would end the Common Core education standards, which conservatives view as federal overreach.

"Education should be local and locally managed," said Mr. Trump, who also criticized the administration's environmental policies. "The Environmental Protection Agency is the laughing stock of the world."

Since the POTUS does not have line item budget veto power, I’d like to know how he’s going the slash the funding for the DOE and EPA in any meaningful manner..

The same way this administration does it, threaten to veto a budget that does not meet his request.

Then use the bully pulpit to beat up on congress.

If Trump wins, he will have a mandate from the people.

I am all for shutting down the government

The next President, Cruz or Trump, will have very few problems with the next congress critters.

You are way more optimistic about our congress critters than I am.

I have no, zero, zilch, faith they will easily go along to get along.

The lobbyist will still have their vampire teeth and claws on the throat of congressman..

I don't see them throwing their hands in the air and saying Go Trump or Go Cruz...

No matter who is POTUS, Congress will still be bought and paid for via the corporate lobbyist...

Frankly, Trump or Cruz can't do a thing about it in any meaningful way...

The PEOPLE need to vote the scum out of office...

Poll was completed in the last week. It confirms what some people have been saying since November.

I was aware of the poll and actually had it in mind when I originally posted about Trump Democrats.

I really believe a president, any president could “slash” funding for any and all departments by announcing at a cabinet meeting.

” I expect a proposal to reduce spending by 10% in the Dept. of *******, And I expect that proposal on my desk Monday morning.”

I can guarnaDAMNtee that ain’t gonna happen reguarless who is elected president.

And every Patriot sitting in that combined chamber should get up and walk out when they are introduced.

If I were Trump, I would have a team of experts make a list of every department and agency in existence in 1960.

Trump doesn't need experts. He is a LOT smarter than all the experts combined. Did you know even though he didn't get an MBA from Wharton School of Business, he stayed at the Holiday Inn Express across the street?

It’s an end. The Trump Democrats will not be pleased.

I know a number of Dems who are backing Trump - none of his platform has been what would be traditionally pleasing to their side of the abyss....

A testament to The Personality Cult of Trump.

That is not a good thing.

But here, we are now talking about specific core Democrat issues so we will see.

Funny. I was just discussing the same thing with my Father this weekend. That being does Trump already have the people in place to get the ball rolling on day one. He is a “doer” by nature.
I for one. Contrary to many on this site hope to see No one in current politics in his cabinet in any way. That includes Cruz. New Blood, approaches, and people. How many unemployed people can be put to work building a wall that currently sit on their back sides collecting a check for nothing. Granted it may not be anything more than digging a hole, and filling it back up. :) However it gets them off the couch, and for some a first time introduction to work. Who knows. Maybe a new start for some.

He would cut the budget by cutting the size of the department

If he simply eliminated the department of Education, for example, which he could do as it is a cabinet level entity created by a President and not under Congress then I would think that the budget for the department would go away too.

If Trump were to partially do this by eliminating certain programs and the associated staff the budget would, or should automatically disappear the next year.

Am I wrong?

I believe he exactly has the right people in place to get the ball rolling on Day 1
And I believe he is smart and wise enough to use a LOT of new blood!
..people he knows can get the job done, and done well.
He has been managing people and agreements and making decisions all his adult life.

I am looking forward to what he can accomplish.!

DOE and EPA need to be abolished. If they are not, and if most of the other Agencies are not abolished along with Civil Service than the course of the nation will not change. There will be a short period of growth and prosperity but the totalitarian bureaucratic state will still be in place and will soon enough reassert itself.

But, as I recall from surveys, still ranked slightly above child molesters.

Department of education needs disbanded it is a failure at every level. Raised to a cabinet level by Carter I believe and since the US performance has done nothing but drop
