Poll: 20% of Dems would defect for Trump
The Hill ^ | 01/09/16 | Sarah Ferris

About 20 percent of likely Democratic voters say they would buck the party and vote for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in a general election, according to a new poll.

The willingness of some Democrats to change sides could be a major problem for Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton this fall.

The new figures were released by Mercury Analytics, a research company with clients that include MSNBC and Fox News, as the result of an online poll and dial-test of Trump's first campaign ad.

A smaller number of Republicans say they’d vote for Clinton - about 14 percent.

Ron Howard, the company's CEO and a Democrat, said he expected Trump’s first campaign ad to have "little impact - or in fact negative impact" on Democrats and independents. But the ad actually resonated with Democrats more than he expected.

About one-quarter of Democrats said they "agree completely" that the ad raises good points, with another 19 percent agreeing at least "somewhat."

"The challenge to Hillary, if Trump is the nominee and pivots to the center in the general election as a problem-solving, independent-minded, successful 'get it done' businessman is that Democrats will no longer be able to count on his personality and outrageous sound bites to disqualify him in the voters' minds," Howard said, according to U.S. News & World Report.

The company surveyed about 916 likely voters this week. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent.

These are not Republicans. The only thing Republican about Hillary Clinton was her father, Hugh Rodham (a Goldwater conservative).

I don’t much think it is a good thing if 20% of the liberals view Trump as an alternative to Hillary or Sanders. That just tells me that even the libs realize that Trump is more liberal than conservative.

The whole idea of Reagan democrats is a thing of the past because the democrats are nothing like they were 30 years ago. If a person has remained a democrat through the Obama years then that person is a raging liberal and not a Reagan democrat. Even the blue-dog democrats were destroyed under Obama.

I would prefer those type of democrats hate our candidate because that just means we are finally fielding a strong conservative for once.

It is interesting, isn’t it? People see what they want to see regardless of the facts.

Something that isn't addressed by these polls is how many dems have bought guns to protect themselves and their family in the last 3 years.

Just as it is highly doubtful that there are any GOP voters for whom the right to an abortion is a significant issue, there are very few Dem voters for whom gun ownership is a factor.

There may indeed be some Dems who went out and bought guns, but if that matters to them, they switched to GOP a long time ago.

You have to be a Registered Republican to vote in the California Republican Presidential Primary. Independents and Decline To State or Democrats cannot vote in the Republican Primary. So, if these people want to vote in the Republican Primary, they would have to register as a Republican.

Yeah right. The average Democrat doesn’t know who Cruz is.

How many GOPe-ers would rather vote for Hillary? That’s the question.

If my math is correct...

Obama won 52% v 48% in 2008. So 52% X .20 = 10.4%

10.4% + 48% = 58.4%

Per the article in "Investment News" in late June 15' that had Advisers going 64.3% R's vs 35.7% D's total.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3318182/posts?page=170#170

So my gut feel 60% to 40% w/ a Trump-Cruz v Hilda ? is not out of the question..

And there you have the other reason why I posted this thread.

I read that he paid a number of people to show up for his announcement.
I wouldn’t be surprised how many are on his payroll.
Would not put it past him.

Where did you "read" that?

Trump doesn't have to pay people to show up;his support is very large and very loyal!

I agree with you.

In one prediction I made here, I went further than that.

I’ll see if I can find it.

“Yet Rubio and Cruz outperform Trump in head-to-head matchups with Hillary.”

You need to read post #5.

“The only thing Republican about Hillary Clinton was her father, Hugh Rodham (a Goldwater conservative).

Are you sure? I’m just wondering if Hillary’s mother had her own “Webb Hubbell?”
Either that or things got mixed up at the hospital and somehow the Rodhams took home “Chucky’s Sister” by mistake!
