OTTUMWA, Iowa â Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump escalated his criticism of GOP rival Sen. Ted Cruz (Tex.) here in Iowa Saturday, painting him as a political follower beholden to pro-oil special interests and the donor class.
Trumpâs strategy: to raise further questions about Cruzâs stance on ethanolâ an important industry for voters in the Hawkeye State â in the final weeks before the Feb. 1 caucuses. Cruz has faced renewed scrutiny over his opposition to the 2005 Renewable Fuel Standard, which requires gasoline to be blended with amounts of corn ethanol and is set to expire in 2022.
âAs you know, my primary opponent in Iowa â only in Iowa, because Ted actually isnât do very well in New Hampshire, but in Iowa heâs doing well â was totally opposed to ethanol and the ethanol industry because heâs with the oil industry. Heâs from Texas, I guess that makes sense,â Trump said.
The real estate mogulâs criticism comes amid an escalating battle between the two candidates for the top spot in polls of Iowa voters. A Fox News survey of Iowa voters had Cruz leading Trump among likely GOP caucusgoers, 27 percent to 23 percent.

While touting his own support for the industry, Trump said he believes Cruzâs position on ethanol has undergone âa very big change.â Cruz has faced scrutiny in recent days for his one-time opposition to the RFS; he has softened his position in recent years, instead calling for legislation that would gradually phase out the requirement.

How’s that revolving door going for ya ? Pathetic ? Isn’t it ?
I agree that ethanol does not make sense. It is also not good for engine life and ruins small engines.
Feel better now?
Yup.
If we have Trump, Nov. 2016 these Dem's will vote Democrat.
Meanwhile conservative turnout will be low again because we have another moderate.
Dr. Ripnbang , PHD ?

I hope that is NOT the case if Trump is our nominee. I know I’d vote for him in November even though I support Ted Cruz. I’m 100% sure of Ted’s positions; Trump, not so much. But whatever Trump’s positions end up being, most of them will be better than any opposing ‘RAT’s positions.
Trump’s lying about this, and probably much more.
At your service....
“However, I doubt this guy has any core convictions or principles. Donald is out for Donald and what garners Donald more popularity, fame,”
With bombast and buffoonery.
.
Trump is losing it in a big way.
These BS accusations show us that Trump’s own internal polls are telling him that he is out of the race.
Bye Donald!
We don’t need more liberals in the GOP.
.
You are far more naive than I ever thought you could be.
Trump has been heavily dependent on Cruz for ideological guidance, but Cruz in no way is inclined to get tangled in Trump’s machinations.

>> “ It makes him look unprincipled. Which he is.” <<
Trump has watched the Clintons, and the Obamas being unprincipled and get away with it, and thinks he can use the same raincoat.
.
>> “He is beginning to sound nutty.” <<
.
The man has always been nutty.
.
>> “He likes big government. He just thinks you need to run it better.” <<
.
You’ve nailed him totally!

Cruz +1, Trump -10
Carry on boyz.
.
In an intellectual battle between the two, Trump is fighting unarmed.
