Donald Trump accuses Ted Cruz of flip-flopping on ethanol
Washinton Post ^ | 1/9/2016 | Jose A. DelReal

OTTUMWA, Iowa — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump escalated his criticism of GOP rival Sen. Ted Cruz (Tex.) here in Iowa Saturday, painting him as a political follower beholden to pro-oil special interests and the donor class.

Trump’s strategy: to raise further questions about Cruz’s stance on ethanol— an important industry for voters in the Hawkeye State — in the final weeks before the Feb. 1 caucuses. Cruz has faced renewed scrutiny over his opposition to the 2005 Renewable Fuel Standard, which requires gasoline to be blended with amounts of corn ethanol and is set to expire in 2022.

“As you know, my primary opponent in Iowa — only in Iowa, because Ted actually isn’t do very well in New Hampshire, but in Iowa he’s doing well — was totally opposed to ethanol and the ethanol industry because he’s with the oil industry. He’s from Texas, I guess that makes sense,” Trump said.

The real estate mogul’s criticism comes amid an escalating battle between the two candidates for the top spot in polls of Iowa voters. A Fox News survey of Iowa voters had Cruz leading Trump among likely GOP caucusgoers, 27 percent to 23 percent.

While touting his own support for the industry, Trump said he believes Cruz’s position on ethanol has undergone “a very big change.” Cruz has faced scrutiny in recent days for his one-time opposition to the RFS; he has softened his position in recent years, instead calling for legislation that would gradually phase out the requirement.

Well, JoSixChip, that's because this thread is about ethanol and government subsidies and mandates of that product and its use

I did give a good answer that is totally relevant even though I could care less about ethanol at this point. I care about American jobs, American sovereignty, open boarders, being overrun with welfare sucking illegals, importing terrorist, exporting American dollars for foreign crap and so on and so forth. Ethanol is down about 117 on my list of what we need to do to save America. You want to lose sleep over ethanol? you just don't strike me as a very serious person.

I agree that ethanol does not make sense. It is also not good for engine life and ruins small engines.

A lot of these new registrants are Democrats voting for Trump, or may not be voting for Trump in the primaries,,but will vote for either Hillary or Berney in the general election.

Yup.

If we have Trump, Nov. 2016 these Dem's will vote Democrat.

Meanwhile conservative turnout will be low again because we have another moderate.

I hope that is NOT the case if Trump is our nominee. I know I’d vote for him in November even though I support Ted Cruz. I’m 100% sure of Ted’s positions; Trump, not so much. But whatever Trump’s positions end up being, most of them will be better than any opposing ‘RAT’s positions.

With bombast and buffoonery.

Trump is losing it in a big way.

These BS accusations show us that Trump’s own internal polls are telling him that he is out of the race.

Bye Donald!

We don’t need more liberals in the GOP.

You are far more naive than I ever thought you could be.

Trump has been heavily dependent on Cruz for ideological guidance, but Cruz in no way is inclined to get tangled in Trump’s machinations.

Trump has watched the Clintons, and the Obamas being unprincipled and get away with it, and thinks he can use the same raincoat.
