Thought experiment: what if Trump carried New York?

Trump's support is nearly the strongest in New York. Now, I can already hear what you're thinking: That's crazy, Jazz. Republicans don't carry New York. It's owned and operated by the Democrats. Well, that's generally true, but if you spend any amount of time watching Empire State politics you know that things have been changing a bit of late. Remember that Governor Andrew Cuomo actually lost the vote in upstate New York in 2014. And he didn't lose by a little, either. It was a wipe out. In fact he only carried eleven of the state's 57 counties outside of the Big Apple. He still won the election, but it was a much narrower victory than the Democrats were used to enjoying and virtually all of his support came out of New York City.

Let's put that in perspective here. Keep in mind that Trump wouldn't actually have to win in New York City to pull this off. Cuomo's total margin of victory was 54% and almost all of it came from the five boroughs. Trump would only need to tip the scales in the city enough to offset that 5% margin needed to swing the statewide vote because he'll carry upstate in a landslide. (And he's already very strong on Long Island.)

Could he pull it off? Lots of people go to work every day in New York City and see his name plastered all over everything. Trump provides one heck of a lot of jobs in the city, including plenty of people who are too busy with their own lives to spend their days watching MSNBC. And just take a walk around Brooklyn these days (assuming you can afford an armed guard for parts of it) and see how happy the locals are...

Thanks to Obama, times have changed and it is my belief that the NYcity street and working people love Trump and have good reason too. I think Trump is a hero of sorts for Black people and they get it.

I have been a fan of Dr. James Manning , a Harlem minister since Obama's election when Dr. Manning, using youtube and The Manning Report, taught me a new vocabulary when he called Obama a "big eared long legged Mac Daddy." I later learned that he was calling Obama out as a street hustler and a pimp.

He also has a long history of supporting Trump from years past and with this recent video: https://youtu.be/BUvRR67fUbc?t=8

The Rust Belt too. The Gulf oil patch is listening to him as well. An America first Republican candidate with balls and a shot. We haven’t seen that in over a generation now.

With the Democrat Party in total disarray Trump’s, high profile in New York his 25% of Black support and 45% of Hispanic support his winning New York is almost inevitable. You could say the Republican party is fairly well dead as well. but Trump is the only Republican who does not need the Republican party to win anywhere. He will win in spite of them not because of them.

I grew up on Long Island.....decades ago.

As you know, there are a lot of Republicans on Long Island, including most of my relatives who still live there.

Didn’t Romney get roughly 50% of the vote in Suffolk County in the 2012 general election? I think Trump would do much better there this November.

I see no way for the democrats to triumph if Trump carries New York state. Their path is closed. It will mean the GOP-E has failed to undercut him, and it will mean the media has been ineffective, not just in NY but around the entire country.

It’s probably why they are terrified of Trump.

If New York state is in play, it would also mean that there would be a lot of other blue states in play.

Something to consider.

Trump built a lovely golf course in Queens NYC. It overlooks the Whitestone Bridge and you see a big sign that reads Trump Ferry Point Golf Course every time you go Bronx bound over the bridge.

He has done a lot of good things for the city. I think it is in play.

His name is everywhere.

Not to mention that the jig will be up for the GOPe of foisting moderate candidates on the party because of “electability.”

I have been saying, for a while now, that there is a pretty good chance that Trump; WILL win N.Y. State!

How do I know this?

Because I pay attention, know political history, and still know a few N.Y. Conservatives in politics.

I agree. Trump isn’t a card carrying conservative, but he sure isn’t a moderate. That’s why they hate him. He’s about as immoderate as they come

The real problem in NYC, is that ACORN ( under a different name ) is still VERY active there and it’s how de Blasio got to be mayor.

NYC is inhabited by lots of immigrants who can’t vote yet. The battle will be to get them registered.

Inhabited by a lot of Republicans also. I am one.
