Three of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy's sons and what they claim are 150 militia members have occupied a federal building in eastern Oregon in order to keep two local ranchers out of prison, according to local reports.
The group is believed to be heavily-armed.
According to The Oregonian, the group seized the headquarters building at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge about 50 miles outside Burns, Ore. The remote facility was closed and unoccupied at the time.
Bundy and his supporters were in Oregon after two men were scheduled to go to prison on Monday for setting fires on federal land, according to a report by Oregon Public Broadcasting. The case has caused a stir in eastern Oregon because the two men were charged under anti-terrorism laws.

How much do you really know personally about fire and range management, as opposed to what lawyers say about it?

I have friends and family who are ranchers w/ large ranches in Wyoming, Montana, Washington and Oregon. What I know of wild fires and controlled burns I know thru the folks who worry about it and take measures to combat out of control *controlled* burns.
Have I personally been on a fire line ... nope. I will leave that to more experienced hands.
What these guys in Oregon did was not a controlled burn. According to family members, who witnessed the act, the fire was started on purpose to cover the crime of poaching. These are not guys to stand behind re: the BLM.
Most unfortunate this is in Blue Oregon.
Wow ... your sure do twist stuff around.
We disagree about this incident. I think these guys who were convicted of starting a fire were in the wrong and should serve time. Even *they* are willing to serve time for their actions.
The Bundy boys are outside agitators and are not there to do anything but stir up trouble. I do not believe the Bundys will find too many locals to support them w/ this ill conceived plan. IMO ... the Bundys picked the wrong incident in the wrong place.
I found more information on this story. I am going to post it and then we’ll see how you feel about this situation.
That concern varies with the circumstances. With all the cheat grass they deal with in those States, I'm not surprised they worry. Yet on a perennial grassland with native forbs a burn can do a lot to increase the protein content of the forage. It also sequesters atmospheric deposition of trace minerals necessary for nitrogen processing, particularly molybdenum. So it depends upon the situation as to whether it would be beneficial or not. I'd be suspicious of the BLM if I were you.
...and so it begins. Now our Nathan Hales and Paul Reveres are out west.
The natives of those areas know what is best...not some asshole Green person in Washington, D.C.
“Poaching” is in the eye of the beholder, and a very convenient charge to bring against patriots, without any evidence whatsoever.
You are absolutely right.

“friends and family” of the left...and you are their tool.

From my understanding, the BLM accusations are coming from people in the local area, who are often as much brain dead ideologues as the suits in DC. That said, while I've met quite a few landowners with long term and detailed knowledge of their property, I've also met local landowners without a clue as to what plants are growing on their land.
Reality is more variable then you suggest.
âfriends and familyâ of the left...and you are their tool.

Um, sure ... I know lots of ranchers who are left leaning. Lots I tell ya!
Just to clarify ... that’s snark.
You go east of the Cascades and we’re talking conservatives. The only ‘left leaning’ ranchers I know are the guys who lean out their truck windows to spit or shoot. :)
But thanks for the laugh.
Why don’t they get arrested for leaning out the windows of the pickup truck to shoot?
That’s illegal in my state.
“Why donât they get arrested for leaning out the windows of the pickup truck to shoot?”

Trying to figure out if that’s snark or a serious question? My comment was somewhat flip about shooting leaning out of a truck. But if you’ve ever been on a large ranch in Wyoming, you would realize ain’t no one gonna know what the hey your doing.
OK...you win. I’m jealous because I don’t live in Wyoming.
Perhaps, as you both stated, this is the start. I do hope so because the longer it takes, the more dumbed-down and socialized people become.
I just think it’s too soon. Not enough people are angry yet. Not enough realize their freedoms are gone.
I hope I am wrong and am prepared in many ways to join in.
All I did was quote the legal definition of arson.
You stated both sides of this case. One side says it was set to control fire. The other says it was to cover up a crime.
I don’t know which side is the honest party. Nobody posting here knows.
