How much do you really know personally about fire and range management, as opposed to what lawyers say about it?

I have friends and family who are ranchers w/ large ranches in Wyoming, Montana, Washington and Oregon. What I know of wild fires and controlled burns I know thru the folks who worry about it and take measures to combat out of control *controlled* burns.
Have I personally been on a fire line ... nope. I will leave that to more experienced hands.
What these guys in Oregon did was not a controlled burn. According to family members, who witnessed the act, the fire was started on purpose to cover the crime of poaching. These are not guys to stand behind re: the BLM.
That concern varies with the circumstances. With all the cheat grass they deal with in those States, I'm not surprised they worry. Yet on a perennial grassland with native forbs a burn can do a lot to increase the protein content of the forage. It also sequesters atmospheric deposition of trace minerals necessary for nitrogen processing, particularly molybdenum. So it depends upon the situation as to whether it would be beneficial or not. I'd be suspicious of the BLM if I were you.
“friends and family” of the left...and you are their tool.
