It Has Come to This (Donald Trump, for all of his flaws, must do.)

The United States of America that we grew up in, and in some cases fought for - no longer exists. I would like to write something stirring in defense of our Constitution, but it isn't under attack. It is simply ignored.

-snip-

I am tired of being told by Barack Obama on the one hand, and Bill O'Reilly on the other, what my American values are or ought to be. I can work those out for myself. I am tired of living in the dumping ground for whatever group of hostile immigrants the social engineers in Washington import to ease their guilty consciences. Let them move their Mexican underclass and angry Syrian colonists to Martha's Vineyard or Marin County north of San Francisco.Maybe this would help our legislators and "opinion makers" alleviate a bit of their never-ending narcissistic angst.

-snip-

To be quite honest, I have no particular love for Donald Trump -- but he is what we have. He doesn't speak well. I don't think he has any idea what a republic is. Then again, his last two predecessors didn't really understand the concept of a republic either. No doubt it's not a word they use at Harvard. Although I may not especially like the erratic, often juvenile Mr. Trump, it isn't lost on me that he at least doesn't hold me in contempt.

-snip-

I would prefer to have a genuine conservative candidate to vote for, and will probably vote for Cruz if he looks viable enough. But if Donald Trump is what it has come to -- I will happily take the risk and check the box next to his name.

Watching a few old interviews is not research.

I've been watching him on display these past few months. Very illuminating. And highly amusing.

As far as his sacrifice goes; he has lost his Macy's contract, gave up a very good income from The Apprentice, lost endorsements, and will have to hand over the business he loves to his children.

Oh the humanity! Oh my God, the sacrifice! I'll schedule a bake sale and send him the proceeds ASAP!

He will have to go from a very comfortable life of doing anything and going anywhere he wants to living in a fishbowl and being attacked on an hourly basis by the media and his foes.

And what do you think he's been doing most of his adult life? Being in a fishbowl and attacking people is what he lives for.

Moving to the White House is a step up for everyone else. It will be a step down for Trump.

Of course it will. And if not for his selfless need to sacrifice and his servant's heart he would not be putting up with it all.

Please tell me I didn't need a </sarcasm> after that last part.

Obamas supporters fell for the hope and change, with no explanation. Are we seeing that again for Trump? I hope not!

“Trump is a quintessential American: brash, self-confident, optimistic, and decisive. His appearance on the political scene is the natural product of decades of attempts by the elite to “tame” American culture into some sort of Euro-light effete mush. “ >>>> ***************

Eagle, Bill, Ed,

Austin encapsulates my concerns for the USA, as above.

TRUMP’s appearance on the political stage is the antithesis of the “decades of attempts by the elite to “tame” the American culture into some sort of Euro-light effete mush.”

Correct this rush to lean in with the effete, and much else shall self correct, in our country. A GREAT DEAL shall self correct, when men are free to be men again.

This is no over night project, for men to return to their rightful place in the churches, in the home, in the grade schools.

It is the FAMILY condition that shapes the future of America, before all the rest soon to follow can come and come with ease and confidence.

Christianity and its practices are a factor in America’s future.

Too many companies... from great American brands to innovative startups... are leaving America, either directly or through corporate inversions.
The Democrats want to outlaw inversions, but that will never work.
Companies leaving is not the disease, it is the symptom. Politicians in Washington have let America fall from the best corporate tax rate in the industrialized world in the 1980s (thanks to Ronald Reagan) to the worst rate in the industrialized world.

That is unacceptable.

Under the Trump plan, America will compete with the world and win by cutting the corporate tax rate to 15%, taking our rate from one of the worst to one of the best.

Donald Trump

I think we are. When you bring up Trump’s statements from the distant past you are reminded that those statement were a long, long time ago and are no longer relevant. I mean, they were so long ago the president at the time he made them was Obama so that is how far back these statements are. Oh, wait...

Trump isn’t perfect-—As my late father said; “There was only one perfect man—and they nailed him to a cross.” Trump is, I believe, perfect for our time. He will bring change that is long overdue. Race Card, PC, Multiculturalism—all need to be chucked. They sounded good on paper (like Communism) but just do not work in the real world. Trump could well bring in a new age to the USA.

You want Trump to broaden his message and discuss first principles.

Why?

The high info folks already have made up their minds.

It's the low info ones that need to be reeled in.

Principles?

You KIDDING me??

I'm starting to think that Ted Cruz might be able to parley his Iowa momentum (assuming he wins) into winning the GOP nomination.

Cruz's "steady wins the race" strategy has played out very well, as it turns out. It'll be interesting to see how much of the wind will go out of Trump's sails if Cruz wins Iowa and then starts leading on other states.

Regardless, I tend to agree with the writer of the article: one or the other will have to suffice, and either of the two (Cruz & Trump) would be magnitudes better than any GOPe candidate, or, of course, Hillary.

Failing to elect Ted Cruz or Donald Trump as President will mean demise of the Republic...

I think your analysis of the threat Cankles poses is spot on. She will not go quietly into that good night. The Benghazi scandal is over for her, she’s on to crushing Bernie and then the White House.

I see no reason though to believe Cruz would not be as formidable an opponent for her as Trump (yes you are right, Trump has the ability to go toe to toe with the Beast.). Cruz is just as able to give what he receives from her, and since he is clearly the more conservative candidate I see no reason to settle for Trump at this time.

Make no mistake if Trump wins Super Tuesday I will have no qualms voting for him in my primary (which is after Super Tuesday) to coalesce behind him as soon as possible so he won’t go into the Convention weak. And of course I’d vote for him in the general in a New York minute. But it’s settling to rally around him right now, settling for the guy who has no proven track record of conservatism just the right sounding words (and he does deliver them deliciously well no one can argue that).

It’s time right now we should be supporting Cruz. If I said last year on FR that I “knew” Ted Cruz would be leading in Iowa, and Jeb Bush would be single digits, a month away from that caucus, AND YET, a vocal contingent on FR would be OPPOSED to this reality supporting another candidate, I would have been called crazy and banned for such heresy. This is the dream scenario we on FR hoped and prayed for for YEARS (Cruz leading in Iowa shortly before the caucuses there) and yet this is viewed as somehow “not enough” by some.

It’s unbelievable to me and I hope we get our senses back soon. Or else we really do deserve what we get, but haven’t we had enough of “settling” for the “electable candidate” already, at least here on FR? (That last question is directed to All reading this post not just you)

Your take is at least partly true, but I think not entirely.

I’ve said often that if he wins, we will surely get bitten in the butt as conservatives (to be fair, I think that would happen with Cruz as well, just less).

His positions are available bit more detailed than you give him credit for, his immigration policy is fully so. His acumen as a business guy means he wants to tangibly succeed and will work to do so. That counts for a lot.

Maybe more later, gotta go.

He doesn’t let attacks stick, he turns them against those who attack him rather than acting like a little boy caught in the cookie jar.
