Some voters embarrassed to admit supporting Trump
Hearst Newspapers ^ | Friday, December 25, 2015 | Kathleen Parker

The biggest political news is that Donald Trump may be doing even better than polls have suggested. Yikes.

Apparently, many Trump supporters have been fibbing to pollsters, saying they’re for someone else when they really intend to vote for The Donald. And those fudging the most are college-educated voters because, it seems, they’re too embarrassed to admit their preference. As well they should be. I’m kidding. Sort of.

Imagine it this way: Guy on the phone asks whom you prefer for president. You can say, I really like the bragging, eye-rolling, profane, nativist, misogynist, policy-free billionaire-birther “jerk” (Jeb Bush’s word). Or, you can select a more-sensible candidate — and keep your Trump crush to yourself.

Thanks to this treasonous gap — OK, this interesting anomaly — these recent findings by the polling group Morning Consult could shake things up a bit. Notably, Trump’s predicted ceiling of 35 percent to 40 percent, the figure many prognosticators have used to argue against Trump’s becoming the Republican nominee, may be much higher — and his nomination, therefore, more likely.

Not embarrassed; many just don’t want to be harassed by their “tolerant”, “Progressive”, liberal friends/neighbors/family.

I think not. Myself and my friends are highly educated, and we’re singing the virtues of Trump from the rooftops.

Quite frankly, I would be more embarrassed supporting Hillary or Jeb.

No I’m not ignorant, and Sessions comments don’t tell us what Cruz’s motive was for supporting the amendment. I would suggest his own words give a better indication of that. Cruz and Sessions supporting the same amendment doesn’t mean they had the same agenda.

Cruz may have supported it because, as his comments indicate, he supported the final bill as long as his amendment was included. Sessions may have supported it for the same reason, or a different reason. This simplistic poison pill response Cruz is encouraging as a response to questions regarding his amendment don’t tell us what his agenda was nor do they tell us the agenda of the other players.

To add a ‘poison pill’ to a bill that you’re not willing to vote for even if the poison pill amendment is included is risky and is not likely. The more than likely motive comes from Cruz’s own mouth, namely, to try to change a bill he was against to one he could support and in the likely event his amendment wasn’t included, point out the unwillingness of the Democrats to compromise on two issues that most voters disagree with them on - securing the border and citizenship (as opposed to legalization).

In negotiation it makes sense to advocate for more than you want, then "settle" for what you wanted. Both the examples that you alleged fit that pattern. The "requirement" that you are advocating seems to be one of being bad at negotiation.

Frankly I think it is motivated by a desire to appear immune to absurd criticism.

For example. Blaming a country as being bad for not letting you migrate to it, or for wanting you to leave if you snuck in illegally is absurd. If it was such a bad country, go to a better country and be glad. Or make your own country a better country.

My own requirement for a President is immunity from being bullied by absurd slanderous bitching. I think that is a thousand times better than being bad at negotiations by asking for too little because you are too afraid to hurt the feelings of people who have contrary interests.

Bush never backed up shit and gave us the muzzie in the hut now.One of the reasons Trump is doing so well is that former republicans had enough of being shit on by the political classless bastards and we want a hard case in there this time.

That's a very creative way of covering up for what has been, thus far, a demonstrable shortfall in Trump's argument.

Pssssst! Trump's not "negotiating" with anybody. He's campaigning for a job.

Sometimes, your guy says things without thinking them through. It's a flaw. It's real. Don't be blind to it. Be honest about it. It's not the end of the world.

Pssst! The negotiation worked, he changed the dynamics of his fellow politicians on immigration.

However he is not necessarily "my guy". I like Cruz better. However since I live in California, I don't really feel a need to have a guy yet...we are in in the last primary batch,

Yeah, and this election, I'm voting on two issues, firearms and immigration.

Without Trump, the immigration issue would have been an argument about whether to let in 10 million or 20 million. I really like Cruz, but without Trump, the media would have killed anyone advocating it. What brought me to liking Trump was when Macy's and Univision tried to damage him, and he hit back instead of going off in a corner and sucking his thumb.

For a long time, I considered Trump to be the incoming missile that took the fire, but now, I'm kind of saying, why should Trump take all the heat and then I give my support to someone else?

Not sure who I'm voting for yet, but if it was today, I'd go Trump first, Cruz second, pretty much abstain from anyone else.

“I have never voted for a liberal. I see no reason to start with this one.”

(Thanks for that.)

Agreed.

But, if Mr. Cruz had some of Mr. Trump’s chutzpah, he would be the perfect candidate. If he integrated it with his conservative beliefs he’d knock it out of the park.

IMHO

“Same voters probably not ashamed to vote for Hillary, Sanders of Jeb.”

That’s the amazing thing.

The current tack by liberals is to associate a vote for Hillary or Sanders as an intellectual thing, while a vote for anyone else is the act of a “hick”, as one acquaintance recently said.

IMHO

I get a kick out of many who proclaim Trump is not a conservative. So why are these people powerless to elect a ^true conservative^ as president? Because those ^conservatives^ have failed to RESONATE with majority of people. Only a former democrat, divorced, and with Hollywood background and transformed conservative such as Ronald Reagan can RESONATE with voters.

What exactly have the ^true conservatives^ in congress accomplished?

Obamacare scrapped?
Illegals deported?
Wall built?
Anchor babies outlawed?
National debt reduced?
Abortion restricted?
China trade deficit reduced?
Food stamp growth curbed?
Welfare growth reduced?
Fraud in Medicare & Social Security under control? (25% of Medicare payments go to fraudulent claims, and there are tens of thousands of people over age 110 still getting social security checks automatically)

If Trump can deliver any 3 of above, he is more than enough conservative for most rational people.

Trump is conservative on these issues:

Pro life since at least 2011, wanted to ban partial birth abortion as far back as 2000.
Pro Traditional marriage. ^Gay rights is not my thing.^
Pro capital punishment ^Capital punishment isn't uncivilized; murderers living is^
Hold Judges accountable
Opposes ^Common core is a disaster^ Teach citizenship, quit ^dumbing down^.
Anti education unions (2000)
For school choice
^Climate Change is a hoax^
^No Cap-and-Tax^
For drilling our own.
On Environment ^Good development enhances the environment^
Stressed the importance of a strong family & culture of life (2015)
Supports Israel
Opposes Iran deal and letting Iran obtain the bomb.
Wants to crush ISIS quickly.
Wants a military so strong no one will challenge us.
Against unbalanced trade deals that kill American jobs.
Against warrant-less government surveillance of citizens.
Is against having a high national debt. Warns that $24T is a point of no return.
Against gun control
For assault weapon ban but says the AR-15 shouldn't be considered an assault weapon.
Wants to repeal Obamacare and replace it with market driven polices and increased competition among insurance companies.
Wants to increase military spending.
Will close the border to illegals
Will send the criminals and sponges back.
Will deport all illegals but will let the hard working ones go through the legal process to come back.
Against Anchor babies
Knows unemployment is much higher than official stats.
Will bring jobs back through better trade negotiation.
Attended military academy and Wharton Business School.
Stood up for Birthers and challenged Obama on his fraud.
Believes USA is ^the greatest force for freedom the world has ever known^
Wants to honor commitments on Social Security and Medicare, which we can afford to do if he gets the economy going full steam.
Wants to reduce the fraud in disability and other programs.
Against marriage penalties in tax code.
Wants to simplify tax code with just 3 simple brackets.
Wants to reduce income taxes and reduce corporate tax.
Wants to rebuild our infrastructure.
Wants to apply welfare-to-work to 76 other welfare programs (2011)
Doesn't have time for political correctness.
Not afraid to call out either party or both when they are wrong.
Not a puppet to rich campaign donors. Go Trump 2016! Born in America of two US Citizen Parents! A true Natural Born Citizen!
