In negotiation it makes sense to advocate for more than you want, then "settle" for what you wanted. Both the examples that you alleged fit that pattern. The "requirement" that you are advocating seems to be one of being bad at negotiation.

That's a very creative way of covering up for what has been, thus far, a demonstrable shortfall in Trump's argument.

Pssssst! Trump's not "negotiating" with anybody. He's campaigning for a job.

Sometimes, your guy says things without thinking them through. It's a flaw. It's real. Don't be blind to it. Be honest about it. It's not the end of the world.

Pssst! The negotiation worked, he changed the dynamics of his fellow politicians on immigration.

However he is not necessarily "my guy". I like Cruz better. However since I live in California, I don't really feel a need to have a guy yet...we are in in the last primary batch,
