The 13th-century scholar Thomas Aquinas, regarded as one of the most eminent medieval philosophers and theologians, offered a biting critique of Islam based in large part on the questionable character and methods of its founder, Mohammed.
According to Aquinas, Islam appealed to ignorant, brutish, carnal men and spread not by the power of its arguments or divine grace but by the power of the sword.
Aquinas, a keen observer of the human condition, was familiar with the chief works of the Muslim philosophers of his day–including Avicenna, Algazel, and Averroes–and engaged them in his writings.
Since Islam was founded and spread in the seventh century, Aquinas—considered by Catholics as a saint and doctor of the Church—lived in a period closer to that of Mohammed than to our own day.
In one of his most significant works, the voluminous Summa contra gentiles, which Aquinas wrote between 1258 and 1264 AD, the scholar argued for the truth of Christianity against other belief systems, including Islam.
Aquinas contrasts the spread of Christianity with that of Islam, arguing that much of Christianity’s early success stemmed from widespread belief in the miracles of Jesus, whereas the spread of Islam was worked through the promise of sensual pleasures and the violence of the sword.
Mohammad, Aquinas wrote, “seduced the people by promises of carnal pleasure to which the concupiscence of the flesh goads us. His teaching also contained precepts that were in conformity with his promises, and he gave free rein to carnal pleasure.”

Well today the men kill themselves for 72 virgins and the women kill themselves for an ever erect afterlife penis.
Sounds like Satan to me.
This saint told the truth about Islam.
Islam a religion from the devil.
Islam scholars even argue that the meaning of the Koran can not be fully understood unless one understands the Arabic. It is a political, as much as religious, ideology for its particular age and location.
As Islam is firmly rooted in the primitive culture of 7th Century Arabia, Islam is by definition then at conflict with the modern, non-Islamic world, the pre-eminence of science and reason. Islam will either succeed in dragging the world back to the 7th Century, or it will be destroyed. We are engaged in that lengthy process right now.
Someone needs to send this over to Rick Warren....
“According to Aquinas, Islam appealed to ignorant, brutish, carnal men and spread not by the power of its arguments or divine grace but by the power of the sword”
Particularly ironic, since a mere 30 years before, the Roman Catholics had a crusade against my Prussian ancestors, the goal of which was to forcibly convert or kill them.
Islam went nowhere, until, Mohammed made it confirm the pillaging and raping the Arab tribes were already engaged in. From then on, the Arabs had the permission of Allah.
Rick Warren,
town Idiot.
Did he write a book,
he did host some debate,,,
all I remember is;
LOSER !
The difference being, any so-called “Christian” that advocates conversion by the sword is acting in total disregard to the teachings of Christ.
Jihadists, on the other hand, are acting in perfect harmony with their founder.
And just like Islam of today, the Roman Catholics are still doing it!
Oh, wait...
O.K....I’m sure I could try to search this out, but I will lazy out and just ask here.
I was debating with a Catholic work friend about something a while back and mentioned Aquinas as a reference.
She snapped at me that not every Catholic believes in Aquinas. I didn’t press the matter since I wasn’t sure if she was frustrated about the possibility of being out debated...or is there some reason Aquinas is not respected by all Catholics?
The region Islam was started was a geographically miserable part of the planet.
I read about that area before getting into Muhammed and Islam. Even if you were able to afford spare time for other pursuits here just wasn't much to do there compared to other parts of he world..
It wasn't like you could go fishing or swimming or do much hunting, or go to the coliseum for entertainment.
So unbridled sex would be a better motivation in that miserable area and in that period of time to join that religion.-Tom
So, what has changed?
According to Aquinas, Islam appealed to ignorant, brutish, carnal men...
Absolutely nothing...I guess.
Sounds like Aquinas had it right.
Islam is still a cult for ignorant, brutish, carnal men.
And goat humpers and pedophiles and murdering bastards and would-be World Leaders named Obama.
bump!
Afraid of being out-debated, for the most part.
Aquinas is a Doctor of the Church, a source of sound guidance on doctrine.
Opponents of this or that there may be, but in no sense as prestigious.
Islam is not a religion. It is institutionalized sociopathy.
Thank you, buwaya.
That I what I thought as well about Aquinas.
Yes. Islam is a Christian heresy, and St.Thomas Aquinas called it.
