Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was confronted by a Fox News Channel host Wednesday over previous comments he had previously made in favor of legalizing individuals who are in the U.S. illegally.
The line of questioning was prompted by an exchange over immigration Cruz had with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) at Tuesday night's GOP debate.
'Special Report' host Bret Baier played a 2013 clip of Cruz introducing an amendment that would have stripped out a proposal for a pathway to citizenship from the gang of eightâs so-called 'amnesty' bill. Cruz boasted at the time his amendment would have allowed illegal immigrants to remain in the country legally.
'They would still be eligible for legal status and indeed, under the terms of the bill, they would be eligible for LPR [Lawful Permanent Resident] status as well so that they are out of the shadows, which the proponents of this bill repeatedly point to as their principal objective, to provide a legal status for those who are here illegally to be out of the shadows,' Cruz said at the time.

Yesterday, a Freeper made the argument, in defense of their candidate’s lack of it, that according to a paper he’d read, conservatism does not exist.
Yes. You read that right.
On a supposedly conservative website, we are now reduced to members here arguing that the whole reason FR was created, does not exist. Such is the logic of the leftist Freepers.
So it’s not surprising that members of FR will attack Cruz. After all. He doesn’t exist. So no harm, no foul. There is zero difference between the stupidity on display in attacking Cruz here, or on DU. Because the two sites obviously to have likeminded people posting to them.
“Cruz knew the democrats would never go for it.”
LOL I realized that Cruz is BLOCKING bad deals by bad people who hate the constitution. Don’t know if Trump has ever had to block a deal, but the two will make a great team. Cruz knows what to stop, Trump knows how to get things going, and they agree on many things.
Cruz is the best, Trump is good, pre-born genocide must be stopped or all is moot.
I’ve been informed that conservatism is only about border control and the constitution is about collecting tariffs.
Nuthin but neo progressive nationalism.
NEVER!!
media should be tried as traitors if there is ever a revolution.
started with Cronkite, i think. i was just a kid but he’s the first i remember
I can top it. It has been explained to me here on FR, by a ‘Conservative” freeper that posts often and been here a while, that the words of the founders are nonsense, that an Imperial America is desirable and we need to run the world.
“Reagan was an immigration advocate who signed the 1986 amnesty law.”
And after the Dems stiffed him on all of it, he called it the worst mistake of his political life.
They always seem to leave that part out. Imagine that.
The GOP is making their move to take out Cruz. They can’t have him as the #2 or it will ruin their plans. It needs to be Rubio Bush or Christie left standing to take on Trump.
“I think all this, shall we say, âunhingedâ Trump/Cruz bashing needs to come to a halt. Right here. Right now.”
Here, here! We only help the Democrats by tearing down the two candidates that are blowing a huge hole in the DNC/MSM/PC/UNIPARTY monolith and shifting the entire political debate sharply back towards American greatness, the rule of law, national security and sovereignty and constitutional governance
I see, Cruz was actually trying to stop the bill by supporting it! Just like with corker and TPP and expanding H1B 500%. He’s starting to look like McConnell Jr.
Pro-choice? No biggie, he's gonna make America great again. Pro progressive tax? So what, he's gonna make America great again. Canadian health care is a great system? Who cares, he's gonna make America great again. Donated to the Clinton Foundation when Hillary was Senator? Huh, he's gonna make America great again. Like knocking down residential housing in Atlantic City to help expand the boardwalk? Don't care, he's gonna make America great again.
Principles don't apply to Trump. Just tag lines.
Bret did a journeyman’s job and there was a mischievous look on his face during the interview segment, but what he failed to realize was than no body gives a damn about the line of questioning.
As my mom used to say.... it doesn’t amount to a hill of beans
nah..... doesn’t matter
The GOP is making their move to take out Cruz. They canât have him as the #2 or it will ruin their plans. It needs to be Rubio Bush or Christie left standing to take on Trump.
You are so right. This was planned before the debate even took place. Rubio was probably given the questions. They hate Cruz even more than Trump.
The minute the debate was over, O’Reilly put on Krauthammer to blast Cruz. This was followed by Brit Hume and Kelly you know who that called Cruz a liar over and over. Fox has become worse than MSNBC. I got more balanced info that night after the debate from CNN.
That is exactly what I remember. I guess Beck doesn’t like Cruz either. Rubio is his pick? After Ryan’s budget action it looks more and more like the leaders of the two parties are more alike than not. The base is not amused.
H1b is a separate issue. Even trump says he wants a huge door for legal immigration.
Cruz has twisted himself into a bit of a pickle...but this will pass. Not much to see here IMO
Cruz knew the democrats would never go for it.IOW, if they did go for it he wouldn't vote for the bill with his amendments attached. Got it.
He's a sleazy lawyer but he isn't that cunning.
This is from his official Senate website:
In 2013, Sen. Cruz proposed amendments to the "Gang of 8" bill that would strengthen border security, expand green card opportunities, increase high-skilled "H1B" visas, prevent illegal aliens from receiving welfare benefits, and enforce the rule of law. It's in his official website. He must be proud of it.
His plan was to give green cards to illegals. AKA backdoor amnesty.
I've asked many times.
Was he lying then or is he lying now? No matter how you slice it, he's a liar.
