Ted Cruz Questions Donald Trump's 'Judgment' to Be President (Uh oh)
NY Times ^ | Maggie Haberman and Matt Flegenheimer

Posted on 12/10/2015 7:49:24 AM PST by RoosterRedux

Senator Ted Cruz raised questions on Wednesday at a private fund-raiser about whether Donald J. Trump, his bombastic rival for the Republican presidential nomination, has the "judgment" to be president and mused about "strength," according to two people who attended the event in Manhattan

The remarks from Mr. Cruz came as he has studiously avoided public criticism of Mr. Trump, who is handily beating the rest of the Republican field in opinion polls.

Mr. Cruz has positioned himself to be the beneficiary of any erosion of support for Mr. Trump. While he has said he doesn't agree with Mr. Trump's proposal for a ban on Muslim immigrants entering the United States, he has taken pains to praise Mr. Trump for making immigration a focal point of his candidacy.

But inside a conference room in a Madison Avenue office, with about 70 people pressed around a table, Mr. Cruz gave a candid assessment of the race, lumping Mr. Trump with another candidate whose supporters the Texas senator hopes to poach, Ben Carson, according to two people present for the remarks.

Politicians know how to do only one thing. How to get elected and how to repeat this trick. They are, beyond teenage girls, the most self absorbed human beings on the Planet. Once upon a time they only did this for their egos, but these days they are making money more than a top free agent pitcher at the winter meetings.

one person at the fund-raiser questioned Mr. Trump's having "his finger on the Supreme Court button," according to the attendees, a reference to the president's ability to nominate the justices.

I have the same trepidation about Trump. I have no confidence at all that he would nominate a constitutional conservative or that he even knows what that means.

We can find a winner who isn't a blow-hard.

Keep looking these elections come around every four years.

he date has passed for Presidential candidates to sign up. Plus, it is too late to get his name on the early states primary ballots even if he could sign up, which he cannot.

Democrats have an uncanny knack of substituting a winning candidate for a loser and break several rules when they do it.

Not any more, Cruz and his team have convinced me he’s not ready for prime time.

It's the New York Times, D1.

The New York Times, purporting to quote two unnamed attendees.

Trump is incapable of admitting he's wrong, has only an intermittent connection between his brain and his mouth, and does not take criticism at all.

Picky, picky, picky. . . .

I am for Cruz and Trump, have not criticized either, though I have said that Trump would be more of a question mark when it came to Christian issues and Supreme Court.

But have noticed that there are people fighting here between the supporters, I only added one day (the above) that though I am very excited about Trump that I felt he would be more of a question mark when it came to Courts and Christian issues, someone took offense to that as if I was attacking Trump.

Was not the case, I have been supporting Trump all over, even on the Golf Channel forum, and yelling at the tv when people lie about him.

When the 2 begin to take issue with one another, will be interesting, probably upsetting

I have the same trepidation about Trump. I have no confidence at all that he would nominate a constitutional conservative or that he even knows what that means.

But who can ever be counted on? Reagan gave us O'Connor and Kennedy along with the great Antonin Scalia. Bush41 saddled us with Souter along with the mighty Clarence Thomas. Bush43 stuck us with Roberts which is bad enough but simultaneously promoted him to Chief Justice and skipped over Scalia and Thomas. Alito seems to be solid, and it should be pointed out that Trump cited him as an example of a good appointment.

So yeah, nothing is certain, that's for certain :-)

The next President could have five appointments, Scalia, Thomas, Breyer, Ginsberg, and hopefully that rotten SOB Kennedy. I would expect at least one or two lemons in that bunch. That President will need to be able to ride herd over the Senate. Unfortunately Cruz would never receive the same treatment for his selections that Clinton or Dumbo got from the feckless (R)epublicrats.

Instead, a perfect scenario is President Trump appointing Ted Cruz to the first available seat. In this scenario Cruz would likely get the traditional Senatorial privilege from a majority of his former peers.

The dream scenario IMHO, and one that would turn the world upside down, is that a President Trump rings up Roberts and asks for his resignation or at least abdication of the big chair and make Cruz the Chief Justice. That would be the first real step to fixing the United States of America.

I'm not sure if this has already been done, but I can think of nothing preventing it since there is so little mention of the Court in the first place. It's not like he would be packing the Court like a famous (D)ummycrat threatened. And it would be extremely justified on the basis of the Tax vs Penalty argument for HusseinCare that he rammed down the nation's throat.

Charles. I know you are a man of God.

And I know you are torn about Trump...i.e. no confidence.

You could do us a great favor.

Pray and ask His direction regarding this matter.

Pray until He tells you and you are sure that it is Him speaking.

And then tell us here at FR what He has said.

I have prayed on this matter, but that's just me.

The answer I keep getting is "trust Trump. He is Cyrus."

Might I be wrong? I have been wrong so many times.

Let us know what you find out.

May God answer your prayers.

I don't know if you lurked a long time before joining FR, but let me tell you that election times around here get pretty tense...and rightly so.

Passions are high.

What I do is try to keep an even temper in the election season.

You ain't seen nothing yet. The fireworks will be something to behold on FR this election.

Be cool and enjoy.

Maybe Cruz just realized the ship is sailing without him. I can’t go through another five pages of this thread, but IF he said this, I want to see a video of him saying it, not the NYT interpretation. And IF he did, then I’m with you 100% and through with Cruz.

But who can ever be counted on?

I have 5,000% more confidence that President Cruz would nominate constitutional conservatives to the Supreme Court than would Trump--Trump, who said his pro-abort sister the judge would make a "phenomenal" Supreme Court justice.

I am fully satisfied that Ted Cruz is the social and constitutional conservative that I am looking for. So why would I be interested in supporting a sketchy, "unpredictable" wild card like Trump?

Bad move? Wtf are you talking about? You think Ted should wear a muzzle and go on with some pretend run for POTUS?

Cruz shouldn't plant his flag criticizing Trump on immigration. Cruz is questioning Trump's "tone" and "judgment" on illegal aliens and the Muslim moratorium.

What does that tell you is Cruz's priorities if he's getting his panties in a knot over Trump's most popular issues? He is stupid.

Trump actually is a lot like Biden with his weird statements, and his followers resemble the cult that Obama had.

What's cute is that Elhombre is literally a member of a religious cult. Don't get him started on the Trinity and the dangers of Bacon in salvation.

Your terrible TDS needs to be treated. You denied that you hate Trump, yet follow up with specious, ancient, misinformation crap. Thanks for proving just what and who you are!

The more that you and your ilk post this stuff, the less Trump supporters are willing to remain civil towards you. Also, your smears and innuendos really turn us OFF from the candidate whom you support. And no, Cruz's support is neither wide nor deep enough to beat Hillary or any other DEM without the people you are driving away !
