Ted Cruz Questions Donald Trump's 'Judgment' to Be President (Uh oh)
NY Times ^ | Maggie Haberman and Matt Flegenheimer

Posted on 12/10/2015 7:49:24 AM PST by RoosterRedux

Senator Ted Cruz raised questions on Wednesday at a private fund-raiser about whether Donald J. Trump, his bombastic rival for the Republican presidential nomination, has the "judgment" to be president and mused about "strength," according to two people who attended the event in Manhattan

The remarks from Mr. Cruz came as he has studiously avoided public criticism of Mr. Trump, who is handily beating the rest of the Republican field in opinion polls.

Mr. Cruz has positioned himself to be the beneficiary of any erosion of support for Mr. Trump. While he has said he doesn't agree with Mr. Trump's proposal for a ban on Muslim immigrants entering the United States, he has taken pains to praise Mr. Trump for making immigration a focal point of his candidacy.

But inside a conference room in a Madison Avenue office, with about 70 people pressed around a table, Mr. Cruz gave a candid assessment of the race, lumping Mr. Trump with another candidate whose supporters the Texas senator hopes to poach, Ben Carson, according to two people present for the remarks.

Unnamed sources and gossip ... typical NYT.

Cruz is too smart to fall into a trap like this, and Cruz doesn’t need or want the firestorm that such remarks would ignite.

What fool would question a man’s judgement when he’s worth billions? Apparently, his judgement has served him more than very well.

Somebody who married the money. Oops. Shades of Kerry.

You can say whatever you want about “when” he said those things...
But you know, if your are honest, that any quotes that hurt Trump will be in every Hillary speech and on every news program if Trump is the nominee.

Trump said, and I heard him say it, he wanted to halt Muslims until he could find out why they hate us, why they want to kill us. That is vastly different than "halted until we have a system in place to vet them." Trump's vacillating on almost every subject he brings up, tells me we have no idea what he will really do because one cannot trust his statement today about "x" to be the same tomorrow. I truly do not trust him to be president of this country.

Cruz is using the word, "judgment" to define himself from other candidates, but I sincerely use the word, "trust" to define my choice. I do not trust Trump due to his behavior.

An aside, is someone working to overcome the symbols problems when posting? It is taking much longer to make a post when we have to take out all the irrelevant symbols, and it is making it hard to read posted articles when there are many symbols. I have taken out so many symbols so long now, that when I wrote a Word document yesterday, I was surprised there were no wrong symbols coming up as I typed. :o)

If true, Trump will not hit Cruz hard. He knows his supporters also like Cruz. He also knows he needs the Cruz voters. Works same for Ted. This was not a hard hit at Trump.

I like some of the things that Trump says, but I can’t get past how he said his favorite president was Bill Clinton. Am I taking that out of context?? Or did he really mean it?

Take it with grain of salt. He hates the Bush family so he probably said it as a pin prick to them.

He has recently said Reagan was one of his favorites, just like all the other candidates.

I think the truth of Trump probably is shown most in his respect of our great generals.

You seem to know Trump pretty well. When did you meet him?

Which candidate recently said, if he was elected “we would find out if sand glows in the dark”?

“I am leaning strongly towards Cruz right now.”

Although I like Cruz and I am 100% against any kind of abortion, Cruz and Rubio say they are also 100% against abortion of any type. No exceptions. Would be great if someone who held those views could get elected president but they can’t. Clinton when she heard after the first debate that Rubio is 100% pro-life immediately pouched on it and said he was against women’s rights, even in cases of rape and incest and would love to have the debate with him and said no way he would ever be elected president being that “extreme”. Hate to say it but she’s right. The GOP has never nominated anyone to run for president who didn’t believe in abortion exceptions for rape, incest and “life of the mother”, and that includes Ronald Reagan. That’s why Paul Ryan immediately started lying about his real abortion stance when RINO Romney picked him as his VP candidate. I’ve got videos of Ryan saying he was 100% pro-life with no exceptions, before he was selected to be Romney’s running mate. Then almost immediately after he was selected he gets on every talk show he can and tells them his abortion stance is the same as Romney. So Cruz or Rubio, is they want the nomination, need to start lying about their abortion stance, or forget about becoming president.

I should add that Trump endorsed Poppy Bush, McCain, and Romney.

Don’t get me wrong, he has highlighted issues that would have never seen the light of day if he were not running, and I applaud him for it, but no one has any idea of where he really stands on anything.
___________________________________________________________

Actually that is not true. If you read his books you can see a continual thread running through them of love of country, self reliance, disgust with the inefficiency of the government, believing in a strong military that we won’t need to use because of it’s strength, law and order and support for those in law enforcement.

I’m sure I am missing some things but all of these things run consistently throughout all of his books.

Even a few weeks back, I would have disagreed with you a bit here.

Not any more, Cruz and his team have convinced me he’s not ready for prime time.

If Cruz goes after Trump it’s self-destruct. Either Trump will take him down, Cruz will damage Trump, or both will sink in the polls per the MSM goal.

It can’t end well. Trump and Cruz have shown a united front against the establishment, against the media. That front earns them both respect for standing together against the cabal. If Cruz turns on Trump, that all goes out the window.

Can’t end well.

If you want to underestimate your enemy, that’s fine, although Sun Tzu has written about the non-wisdom in doing that.

Trump’s ground game is just as, if not more, formidable as Cruz’s, and Trump has a more motivated base, greater brand awareness, and a more demonstrative ability to lead in what is turning out to be a very dark time in our country.

Understimate Trump at your own peril.
