I have the same trepidation about Trump. I have no confidence at all that he would nominate a constitutional conservative or that he even knows what that means.

But who can ever be counted on? Reagan gave us O'Connor and Kennedy along with the great Antonin Scalia. Bush41 saddled us with Souter along with the mighty Clarence Thomas. Bush43 stuck us with Roberts which is bad enough but simultaneously promoted him to Chief Justice and skipped over Scalia and Thomas. Alito seems to be solid, and it should be pointed out that Trump cited him as an example of a good appointment.

So yeah, nothing is certain, that's for certain :-)

The next President could have five appointments, Scalia, Thomas, Breyer, Ginsberg, and hopefully that rotten SOB Kennedy. I would expect at least one or two lemons in that bunch. That President will need to be able to ride herd over the Senate. Unfortunately Cruz would never receive the same treatment for his selections that Clinton or Dumbo got from the feckless (R)epublicrats.

Instead, a perfect scenario is President Trump appointing Ted Cruz to the first available seat. In this scenario Cruz would likely get the traditional Senatorial privilege from a majority of his former peers.

The dream scenario IMHO, and one that would turn the world upside down, is that a President Trump rings up Roberts and asks for his resignation or at least abdication of the big chair and make Cruz the Chief Justice. That would be the first real step to fixing the United States of America.

I'm not sure if this has already been done, but I can think of nothing preventing it since there is so little mention of the Court in the first place. It's not like he would be packing the Court like a famous (D)ummycrat threatened. And it would be extremely justified on the basis of the Tax vs Penalty argument for HusseinCare that he rammed down the nation's throat.

I have 5,000% more confidence that President Cruz would nominate constitutional conservatives to the Supreme Court than would Trump--Trump, who said his pro-abort sister the judge would make a "phenomenal" Supreme Court justice.

I am fully satisfied that Ted Cruz is the social and constitutional conservative that I am looking for. So why would I be interested in supporting a sketchy, "unpredictable" wild card like Trump?
