Ted Cruz Questions Donald Trump's 'Judgment' to Be President (Uh oh)
NY Times ^ | Maggie Haberman and Matt Flegenheimer

Posted on 12/10/2015 7:49:24 AM PST by RoosterRedux

Senator Ted Cruz raised questions on Wednesday at a private fund-raiser about whether Donald J. Trump, his bombastic rival for the Republican presidential nomination, has the "judgment" to be president and mused about "strength," according to two people who attended the event in Manhattan

The remarks from Mr. Cruz came as he has studiously avoided public criticism of Mr. Trump, who is handily beating the rest of the Republican field in opinion polls.

Mr. Cruz has positioned himself to be the beneficiary of any erosion of support for Mr. Trump. While he has said he doesn't agree with Mr. Trump's proposal for a ban on Muslim immigrants entering the United States, he has taken pains to praise Mr. Trump for making immigration a focal point of his candidacy.

But inside a conference room in a Madison Avenue office, with about 70 people pressed around a table, Mr. Cruz gave a candid assessment of the race, lumping Mr. Trump with another candidate whose supporters the Texas senator hopes to poach, Ben Carson, according to two people present for the remarks.

Biden cannot run. The date has passed for Presidential candidates to sign up. Plus, it is too late to get his name on the early states primary ballots even if he could sign up, which he cannot.

Don’t get me wrong, he has highlighted issues that would have never seen the light of day if he were not running, and I applaud him for it, but no one has any idea of where he really stands on anything.

That is just flat out not true. Trump has been putting out books since the early 80s and all say the same thing. You yahoos that pull-up quotes from a red carpet interview in the 90s and ignore all serious interviews and writings Trump has done are the classic example of progressive like low information voters.

“Manufacturing a wedge between Trump and Cruz?”

Hmmmm ..?? That’s what I was thinking too.

Trump is a complete wild card. No one has any idea what they are getting.

At this point I really don't care. I don't want a GOPe candidate.

I, for one, don’t question Trump’s judgement. What fool would question a man’s judgement when he’s worth billions? Apparently, his judgement has served him more than very well.

“...Cruz is the smartest, most articulate, conservative in the race. Unfortunately, he can’t win.”
********************************************************************************
“...he can’t win.” Jeez, that has been the refrain of the RINO establishment over the past decades. It’s unfortunate, and self-defeating, that some here on FR are taking up that refrain.

“...noteworthy is that Cruz did NOT specifically aim at TRUMP, the reporters first question was about Trump, Cruz answered in a general way speaking about the judgement of all candidates including himself, and the voters will decide. Trumpeters are frothing over a nothing-burger.”
********************************************************************************
I agree. And I hate it that some conservatives are so gullible that they take the bait that the mainstream media lays out for them. We ALL should be smarter than this.

Not making any sort of serious comparison, but Ted Turner and George Soros are billionaires too. John Fonda Kerry, John Edwards, Al Gore, others of the same far left ilk, are near billionaires.

“[Trump is the Republican Biden!] That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever read. I’ve seen immature comments by liberals on Trump that made more sense.”
That actually is a good comparison - Biden speaks without thinking through what he is about to say and neither does Trump. The comment was not abut their politics, but about their speaking habits.

Donald Trump quotes...

http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/08/the-absolute-trumpest-121328

9. “I have black guys counting my money... I hate it. The only guys I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes all day.” (USA Today, May 20, 1991)

36. Women: “You have to treat ‘em like s—t.” (New York magazine, Nov. 9, 1992)

61. “It’s very possible that I could be the first presidential candidate to run and make money on it.” ( Fortune, April 3, 2000)

Trump——Biden...pretty good comparison.

Norton immediately responds: “328 Chauncey Street!”
Yup, just one slight error in that show, that address is in Bushwick, near where Jackie Gleason grew up, not Bensonhurst. I know because years ago I had a delivery business driving all over NYC. I used to deliver food flavorings to the old H. Fox Co a couple of blocks from there, they make Fox's U-Bet, the ONLY chocolate syrup for making a REAL NY style eggcream :-)

If you read the NY Slimes article, it sounds like the same Cruz approach to Trump and other candidates that he has been using for months...really nothing new here...IMHO

That is what happened in Texas when Cruz ran for Senator. He ran against a wealthy Lt. Governor and the polls showed Cruz losing even the day before the election. The next day, when voters voted, Cruz won handily.

Equating a popular courageous figure such as Trump to Dewhurst is not the best way to manage expectations.

Trump <> Dewhurst

Trump > Dewhurst

I am anything but a LIV. You, on the other hand, seem to be the one low on information. Look up Trump’s stance on healthcare, gun control, abortion, TARP, stimulus, every bailout to ever be offered, Clinton as SoS, Obama, Democrats on the economy... heck, look up Trump’s stance on Syrian refugees just back in September! Then you can get back to me.

I know that people can evolve on issues over time but we are not talking about evolving positions over decades here. We are talking during Obama’s time in office. Is Trump a patriotic American? Absolutely. Is is consistent on any issue? He hasn’t been so far and don’t expect him to be in the future.

"I hope Cruz didn't say that."

His campaign people also used the word, "judgment". I think that word will be the one used to separate Cruz and Trump. That Trump lacks the "judgment" to be president. That is a good word that describes Trump's mindset/speeches.

I base that on the outrageous statements Trump makes that cause a firestorm and this latest one about banning ALL Muslims coming here for any reason, started a firestorm across many countries, both Anglo European, Israel, and Muslim, and their leaders spoke out against Trump. Some here will laugh about that, think that is cool, but our President needs to have respect from countries and he does not have that now and that is not funny.

I think it’s a fair assessment. Trump has said that a leader needs to be fairly unpredictable, just to keep the enemies afraid and uncertain. And that’s true to a certain extent but it’s important to know where to draw the line. That discernment is important. My BIL says if Trump gets the nomination he’s going to write-in my dad, and I think it’s probably because he sees Trump as bombastic and a loose cannon. It’s a reasonable question to ask because we don’t want somebody who will let fly without considering all the consequences.

I like what Trump is doing. I think he, more than anybody else on the national stage, knows where this country is at and how it got here. I think he would surround himself with competent people who love this nation, and they would help keep him well-founded. The two areas I have concerns about are who he would nominate for SCOTUS and whether he would be too quick to react militarily.

The concerns I have for Cruz are that he’s still afraid to take on the media and corrupt system because he’s not independently wealthy, and I’m not sure he’s willing to take on the issue of Muslim loyalty to sharia.

I do think the NYT would use a headline to sensationalize what Cruz or Trump actually said, to try to pit the two against each other in order to get Jeb in. I see comments by Freepers that serve the same function, and I always wonder why. I wonder why my BIL is acting like he is, though I haven’t spoken with him personally so I don’t know exactly what’s up with him.

I like both and would vote for either. The biggest fear I have is that party spirit/loyalty to one candidate only will lose it for conservatives and thus lose it for the whole country and world. We can’t afford to have rocks for brains right now. Either guy would be good for the country, and in slugging it out over which one should get it, their followers could rip the country apart just out of spite. NOT cool with me. It’s what NYT would love though...

Football analogy. Trump is a running back heading toward the end zone. Trump seems unchallenged but Cruz is a tackle triangulating on him hoping to make the tackle before he scores.

Nice stop, Cruz! But your team is still down by 20 points in the polls, and Trump has the ball in the red zone, 1st-and-goal.

I ma not sure who you are quoting when replaying to my post...but it is not my quote.

But here is a quote from me you can take to the bank.

We currently have a President who is a quisling at best, and an enemy collaborator at worst. One who most definitely has a deep seated mistrust and antipathy for the United States traditional values, foundational principles and history, and who has openly stated that it is his intention to fundamentally transform America. And he has gone about doing just that.

Ted Cruz better be careful. As much as I like him does he really think the media the rats and GOP-e won’t come after him too? He was their number one whipping boy til trump got in the mix.
