Modern-day Maccabees Must Lead the Fight for Religious Freedom

HOUSTON, Texas - Presidential candidate Ted Cruz released the following statement on the eve of Chanukah:

“Today Heidi and I wish the Jewish Community a very Happy Chanukah. On this holiday, we remember the miracle that enabled a freedom-loving people - led by the heroic Maccabees - to defeat the oppressive dictator Antiochus so that they could once again freely worship the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For the eight days of Chanukah, the Jewish people commemorate their liberation from oppression and the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem. As the Talmud teaches, God delivered ‘many into the hands of the few, strong into the hands of the weak, and evildoers into the hands of the righteous.’

“Today, the Jewish people, together with freedom-loving people around the world, once again find their religious faith and liberty under attack from radical forces of oppression and intolerance. Whether it is the BDS movement on college campuses, anti-Semitic attacks in Europe, or radical Islamic terror in Israel and around the world, we need modern-day Maccabees to stand together and push back against the forces of evil. As a nation founded by a people seeking religious liberty, America stands with the Jewish people both at home and abroad in protecting the light of faith and liberty.

“The victory of the people of Israel is a testament to God's providence. On these nights when Jewish families around the country and the world celebrate with latkes, lighting the menorah, and playing dreidel, Heidi and I join with you to recognize, ‘Nes Gadol Hayah Sham,’ a great miracle happened there. We only need look at our nation's heritage to know that great miracles have happened here too, ‘Nes Gadol Hayah Po,’ and will continue to happen with God's blessing. We are grateful for the Divine tradition and we give thanks for the blessings of liberty. Happy Chanukah.”

The BDS Movement (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement) is a global anti-Israel campaign attempting to increase economic and political pressure on Israel to comply with the stated goals of the movement: the end of Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and colonization of Palestinian land, full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and respect for the right of return of Palestinian refugees.

Because for many Jews, liberalism trumps everything else. Liberalism IS their religion. My Mom’s friend for example, she is a liberal, supports Hillary Clinton, is a Jew, she could care less about Israel. I only follow her on facebook because she is my Mom’s friend and my Mom doesn’t have access to facebook. She never posts about the terror that is going on in Israel, not a word, but as soon as the Colorado shooting happened, she pledged her support to Planned Parenthood(She is VERY Pro abortion) so there ya go

So in other words, she’s not a Jew.

If one supports abortion, one isn’t a Christian or a Jew.

You can’t ask forgiveness from God for something you dont believe is wrong.

And you can’t be Jewish or Christian if you dont believe abortion is wrong.

It’s not like being black or white.

Unless you’re that lady who used blackface to pass as one :) that was a GREAT story lol

Tell me about it. I’m a Jewish conservative living in NYC. You can imagine the leftist drivel I hear day after day (after day, after day, . . .)

I agree she is a self hating Jew, she doesn’t care about Israel, all she cares about is she supports baby killing and this woman is in her 60s my Mom once told her “What abortion are you having?”

God Bless Israel.

My son will be singing at temple in Bev. Hills this weekend. They hire a few professional singers (he’s a bass) to fill in. It is usually 5 men and the cantor.

For a few years he had a beard and longer hair and everyone said he looked just like Jesus. (You know, we’ve all seen pictures of Jesus.) Our Mexican employees called him “Hey-zus”.

The teens at temple used to have a wild time joking about Jesus showing up. Now he has shaved his head bald. Not so much fun.

>> So in other words, she's not a Jew. If one supports abortion, one isn't a Christian or a Jew. <<

Going that definition, about 80% of the people who practice Judaism "aren't Jews". Pro-life Jews are in the extreme minority. Even "conservative" Benjamin Nentenyahu hasn't lifted a finger to oppose the taxpayer funded abortion-on-demand policies of his country. If he also "not a Jew"?

You could say you’re a major league baseball player. But saying it doesn’t make it so.

Religion is chosen. it’s not like race or ethnicity.

If you CHOOSE to follow a religion and then ignore one of its most fundamental principles, then how can you say you belong to that religion?

Thank you, Sen. Cruz. I believe in you. I’d like to see you President, but I want President Trump first because of his unique life position, to clean up the swamp.

But give Sen. Cruz CREDIT, the Jewish festival of lights honors religous liberty, the fight in which goes on to this day.

That's true, Benjamin Nentenyahu is indeed an Israeli. There are also roughly 1.6 millions Arab citizens of Israel, who are by definition "Israelis" regardless of whether they hate Jewish people and the Jewish state. They're roughly 20.7% of the Israeli population. You're far more likely to hear from them than from pro-life Jews.
